I know we've talked about DS's obsession with "Ten Duel Commandments" but I had no idea until this weekend that he had the whole thing memorized. I"m not sure if I should be proud or ashamed that my four year old is belting out "Pick a place to die where it's high and dry" in the back seat. A couple of times a week his teacher is the one helping him into the car at pickup and I'm always afraid that today will be the day that a dispute over the whiteboard will turn into pistols at dawn.
On a slightly less bloodthirsty note my heart melted when he kept going back the phone on the dock to listen to "One Last Time" over and over again a few days ago.

I completely geeked out today because I didn't realize that Leslie Odom, Jr. was on an episode of Gilmore girls, so on the Gilmore guys podcast, they talked about Hamilton a bit and played some bars of Wait For It, so I guess that's what will be playing on the mental jukebox today
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

OMG! I had no idea. I totally just googled this to see which ep he was in.
I spent some time yesterday trying to find a link between my family and the Schuylers. They were both in the same area at the same time but so far I have not succeeded. I'm just going to pretend that Angelica, Eliza (and Peggy!) are my 10x great-aunts or something.
I found it! Their great-grandfather was the brother of my 8X great-grandmother. I feel so special now.
msmerymac I seem to have common relatives with Van Buren too so we may very well be distantly related.
And LMM responded on the FB group - DURING INTERMISSION!
OMG it's so amazing.
What FB group is this?!
I think that was from the mbmbam appreciation group on Grammy night, but I actually meant they got a shoutout in the book that came out yesterday, which Justin took a picture of and tweeted.

Since I have listened to this 1.5 million times now, I am less mad about the whole bootstraps aspect. Hamilton was a first generation immigrant and all the first generation immigrants I know are kinda bootstrap-y. I am not trying to generalize but they all make comments about working hard getting you ahead. And they all bust their asses. But I notice their kids and as the generations go on lose that part over time. So I am not mad that LMM wrote Hamilton that way.

I remember reading somewhere last fall that LMM said he hoped to have Hamilton filmed while they still had the original cast. Crossing my fingers that happened already and will eventually be released to DVD or one of those "one night at the movie theater" or some such.
I'd be willing to bet that the Oregon Shakespeare Festival will do it at some point, and I might be able to head there to see it, but I'd love to see the original cast too!

I ordered the book on Monday night. It's showing it will ship on 4/18. Now when you look up the listing for the book, it is out of stock. Am I screwed or am I okay since they haven't sent me any other notifications?
What songs do your kids particularly like? I want DD to love this, but when I listen to it in the car she is all "I want Let it Go mom" Umm, this is sooooo much better than stupid Let it Go. She did like "You'll Be Back" little psychopath. But I want her to be singing THIS.

My kid doesn't like it either! She's like, "Ugh, is this Hamuhlyon? AGAIN? Put on the rocketship song! It's my turn!" lol
This is why dogs are better than kids. Stella has no choice but to listen to me sing along all.evening.long.

I had it on in the car the other day and at the end of Washington on your side (I think?) where Jefferson says "the emperor has no clothes," my DS was like "Ewwwwwww!!!!!!" so we had a conversation about what a figure or speech is and how he didn't really mean someone was naked. LOL
I would think that a kid would like Nonstop or My Shot to start with, but to kids it all probably sounds like boring adult music.

My little sociopath's love of "Ten Dual Commandments" is well documented here but in the last week he's really started getting into more of them with me. We generally stick to the first act in the car because it's more fun and less likely to make me cry. He's starting to love all the battle songs like "Right Hand Man", "Stay Alive", and "Guns and Ships" because Mama is finally encouraging him to yell in the car. There are very few things cuter and funnier than a tiny person shouting "What are you doing, Lee? Get back on your feet!" from the backseat. He also loves the Cabinet Battles, "The Room Where is Happens" and for reasons I can't explain "One Last Time".
His love for the Laurens/Lee duel lead to some interesting conversations in the car about how he feels sorry for Lee and will be nice to him and bake him cookies. When I told him that Lee was an awful person he asked if it would be ok to make cookies for Hamilton and if he would see him in Heaven when he turns 90 and dies. Listening to it has also lead to me having conversations with him to explain cannons, hurricanes, spies, and a few other topics that don't come up in his children's books.
For those who have seen it, where did you sit? We have a very splurgy dinner planned for our 10th anniversary this year and I am now lobbying the appropriations committee HARD to reaportion these funds for REALLY fucking expensive play tickets. The cheapest i am seeing are $700. If we are in the last row in the back will we see anything?
So I stayed up way too late last night reading the Hamiltome. I'm not quite done but it's soooooo good you guys. LMM gets a lot of credit, which he should, but there are so many others who put their blood, sweat, and tears into making Hamilton what it is and the book does a good job describing that.
