FWIW, many of the Twitter accounts being referenced are private. Not much difference between that and using PMs instead as one person suggested.
I don't get Twitter, but if they were private how did tacom see them? But yes, if they were private I don't think that is any different than PMs. People talk shit about everybody on here in private.
Wait, wait, wait! Before everyone leaves, could someone tell me the story of coke duck? By the time I got wind of it, all posts were deleted and I never knew what happened. When people would mention it, I would try and glean more info, but I couldn't figure it out. I tried to google it, and I got interesting, but less than helpful results.
And this is the kind of massive airing out I was expecting. *sheds a lone tear*
Lol I'm sorry. I saw an opening and I took it. FWIW no ones PMed me anything. Yet.

You can choose your profile settings to public or private. The only tweets shown here are from a public account. The majority of the accounts are private meaning only those they have added can see it.

Ok, I don't use Twitter much at all so I'm just trying to understand. When you tweet and tag people, if your account is private, can everyone who follows you see what you wrote? Or just the people you tagged?

Those who follow you can see it. When private you have to accept followers, so not anyone can follow you. You can tag people but they won't see it unless they follow you.

Ok, then yeah, this is still giving me heart palpitations. Like, I wouldn't have a conversation with 4 other people from here about a poster or a thread on GBCN on Facebook in front of the rest of my Facebook friends.

I wouldn't find twitter and FB comparable. People keep much closer groups on Twitter.

Oh ok. Like I said, I haven't gotten enough into it to really get it. Do people sometimes have different accounts and different groups of followers for each account? So someone could have a Twitter account they only have GBCN followers in?

wannabe has over a thousand followers last I checked

Like I said. She is public. The rest of us aren't. Which is what another poster was trying to point out.
I think a lot of people on MM did not follow what happened on the other boards; it's about time we discussed it. I don't have much to add but I don't want this to seem like it's people from other boards who are upset about it. MMers need to speak up too.
v was interesting, I guess, but I certainly don't miss her. I am amazed that she chose to leave rather than at least attempting to apologize and to address her racism. I think that speaks volumes about her, and I say good riddance. @chloe77 you may have liked v's surface level posts but come the fuck on with the la di da "who knows if she was racist, I didn't see it" excuses. I hope this thread is a wake up call for you.
On the twitter bullshit, I have always thought of wan as carefree and likeable, but I have gotten a new perspective on her (and others...) now, too. There is so much ugliness when there is no accountability. MM's tendency to turn the other cheek has real consequences.

Aren't some of them slightly famous people? I'm loling that, like, Scott Baio might be reading about this nonsense.
I don't know what she said, but I've been on this board almost every day for years and have read many, many posts by her and have never seen her say anything racist or be any more mean than anyone else. I think her responses to alot of posts are more rational and sensible than many others. A lot of people on here make snide comments and are rude to each other. Doesn't matter, what's done is done, I am just surprised and sorry that she's gone!
Hey are you going to come back and address any of this or are you going to pull an v and pretend that your ladida response to someone being racially insensitive is of no consequence?
Maybe she is v :da da dum:
I have no idea what I am talking about. I just wanted this to be 10 pages when I got back and I am sad it isn't.
What? No I'm saying gossip in PMs or by text or some shit.
No not you, the folks who are like, mad that it happened on Twitter.
It feels like "I can't believe you talked about me on Twitter!!!" and not "I can't believe you talked about me NOT TO MY FACE!" That is what feels insincere to me.
Well, I like @246baje's approach re: if you want to talk shit, do it privately. But, to further that, I'm saying if you want to talk shit publicly, I'm saying do it on GBCN. Don't link GBCN into a forum that is far more public facing and personally identifying than GBCN is. That takes it to a level of publicity that I'm not sure many (most) GBCNers want to go to.
This in no way compares to what happened to Smo, but part of the outrage over that act (besides the fact that it was flat out atrocious from a racist standpoint) was that it was a IRL, personal attack. It took her away from the "anonymity" of GBCN.
So are we acting like people would somehow be okay had this been posted on GBCN?
Like, "oh if you had said that here and not on the Twitters then it would be cool."
This all seems very insincere. As hell.
Here are the things I think, in no particular order:
First, the obvious, that we've all been saying since like elementary school, but still holds true today! When you want to talk shit about people, it's best to say it directly to them. That way, no one can ever come to you with something you said and make a fool of you. Been on both sides of this equation lol.
That said, we ALL talk about people, sometime, somehow, someplace. It's how you do it that speaks to who you are.
I try to be as open as possible about the shit I talk because I'm 40 (this is at least my 10th time throwing that into a conversation since I turned 40 a couple weeks ago ), so I'm real grown and I don't have any problem saying what I think to anyone. I do not usually say things that are simply hurtful and carry no real value to people directly, but I also try to say those things aloud as infrequently as possible, too, because again, I'm 40 and need to do better.
Twitter, to me (a person without an account, so take that fwiw), feels public in a way that FB and GBCN are not. For example, the tweets that were posted were found because they were public. For winnieandwine to have gotten them shows there was a flaw in the plan of "privately talking shit about people," which clearly seemed to be the intent. Because realistically, if wannabe was about that life, why did she not say these things within the threads and why has she never returned to this thread to address them? At least in an FB group or a GBCN PM, there would have taken a rogue gossiper to air her out. On Twitter, she was aired out by her damn self .
It feels somehow meaner to me to say stuff like that on a public twitter account where anyone can find it. Just email it or facebook it where people can't see it. I'd be really hurt if I found mean tweets about myself on a public account.
And to the folks saying they're seeing wannabe differently come the fuck on. You've never left here and said to your H or a girlfriend "you won't believe these women, they did XYZ"
Hell I posted on FB about y'all MMMs who send your kids to school in the pajamas from the night before on pajama day. Everyone was shocked.
If you post it on here someone is going to talk about it.
I'm not surprised people talk about GBCN stuff elsewhere. I'm surprised that specifically wan, choco, etc ridicule posters publicly. It's a shitty thing to do.

I'm going to sit next to you because I feel like this conversation could get technical in a way that a person who's never had Twitter or FB can't really understand. Damn you, technology.

Girl nobody in the real world gives a flying fuck about winnieandwine or @notquiteblushing .
This is foolishness.
Maybe nobody else does, but they probably feel hurt finding stuff about themselves on twitter.
