We bought decent stuff from the salon in funky colours and did her tips. Washes out in a few washes, but not messy like hair chalk (or tacky looking like some of the clip ins she's gotten at the salon) and the colours are fun and kid-like (teal and purple).
I'm a pretty strict parent. We are not friends - I am the parent, she's the child. But from growing up with my own parents taking a similar stance, one thing that I appreciate (in hindsight) was that they didn't take a hardline about totally temporary, silly, fun things like this. So, when they did take a hard line, I listened (thank god for that or I'd have an overweight whale circling my pierced belly button!) instead of "rebelling" because they weren't so strict about things that, realistically, didn't matter much and there was no shock-and-awe value attached to things like hair dye, either. Just made it less of A Thing.
I've dyed DD's hair a few different times, starting in 3rd grade. I started out just doing streaks and most recently did just the tips, which is my favorite. Just a little Manic Panic and some tinfoil It fades quickly and washes out in about 6 weeks.
Absolutely. I would also consider a few peek-a-boo pieces if either DD wanted them. Neither has shown interest in any kind of dyed hair yet though (they are 7 & 9). But XH would probably freak out.

Yep. She has had the underside of her hair hot pink during the summer and has done streaks or tips. It washes out easily and tips can just be trimmed off.
I'm considering letting my very blonde DD dye the tips of her hair turquoise for the summer with a semi-permanent dye. My husband thinks I'm crazy. Of course, if I didn't have an office job (at a very conservative company) I'd dye my hair pink in a hot second, so there's that
I probably would, but I'd likely at least start with this stuff. The colors are really intense, and it's a mousse that applies easily but it easily shampoos out, too. I use to use them all the time (I do mostly permanent streaks now though.) Here's an example of the purple on my blonde hair.
In a heartbeat. At home, though, not the salon, if she wants it in the salon she is going to have to pay for it herself. And no at-home bleaching allowed, sorry dark haired kid, that's too easy to screw up.
My hair is currently blue, aqua and teal. I firmly believe in expression through hair color.
I don't have kids, but I would vote yes. I really want to play with color now, but I have a boring law firm job that probably would not appreciate that. I wish I had done it when I was young and free!

Yes. My three-year-old has hair chalk and pink extension clip ins. Some kids really want to play around with it and I'd be fine with the tips for summer at that age. Honestly, I'd probably be fine with it a lot sooner.

I've always been pretty "anything goes" when it comes to my kids' hair. It's only hair, it'll grow back. I have one who came home shaved after football practice one day (that's as close as I've come to freaking out over hair), and the other one rocks bushy sideburns and waist-length chestnut brown hair I'd have paid a pretty penny for in my youth. Sadly he wears it in a manbun.
