Ya I am with the others that say something like this yes its fun and its for summer time. However, Iwould never let my 9 year old dye their entire head.
DD has a girl in her class whose mom dyes her hair platinum blonde. She is actually a brunette.
EDIT: I would let her color the tips of her hair for summer. But I would have her do it with something homemade. I wouldn't take her to a salon and pay for it. NFW

Ehhhhh I think 9 is younger than I'd be okay with, probably. Chalk-type wash-out stuff or clip ins probably until middle school age, and then we could talk.
Yes. My 3.5 year old asked me for pink hair and I did it for her. I realize this is flame-worthy, but it's Manic Panic and it washes out pretty quickly.
My DD has a very strict dress code at school so last summer she was allowed to dye the ends of her hair purple. I told her she could go as high as she would be willing to cut off in August so it ended up being about 3 inches in the back.

Yes. It will be gone when she gets her back to school cut so no worries about dress code. Kids have very little control of their life. This would be a good area to let her have some fun
Not a parent, but I really don't see the big deal in doing homemade tips for the summer-you can just cut them off when it's time for "back-to-school" haircuts.
Of course. We've already done that. Last summer both girls got vivid color streaks. DD1 was 9 and got pink, DD2 was 12 and got purple. They have dark hair and had to have their color lifted first.
We'll probably do it again this summer but do the tips instead of streaks.
Yup. My mom never cared what I did with my hair (I started dyeing at 12), and in fact did my hair purple when I was 17 because, in her words, "If it's going to be purple, it's going to be done well." I have her mindset of 'it's just hair, it'll grow back/wash out/etc.' If my 5 year old wanted the chalk stuff now, I'd let her, and I'd totally let her do the tips at 9.

She is obsessed with it.
I would absolutely do this if my DD asked (she's 5).

Yep. I did this last year with my then 10 and 8 year old. 8 year old has dark/dirty blonde hair. She chose turquoise. It washed out within a couple months. I'm of the "it's just hair" mindset.
Possibly? I probably would if it totally fades on its own but I wouldn't want to take her to the salon to get it out before school starts. I feel overall I'm pretty uptight about stuff but for some reason, not this. I guess we all have our things, though!
I just let my 9 year old do her tips a dark purple. She has medium to light brown hair so it's not too drastic. I took her to a salon to be done because I didn't want to attempt it myself. It will wash out in 4-6 weeks.
I really questioned if I should let her but ultimately I'm glad I did. She was really happy and has worked so hard at school and around the house this year, it was a nice reward for her. Not something I'll let her do constantly but it was a fun, harmless treat.

See, yeah. I'd be totally cool about it if it washed out on it's own. Mainly because I wouldn't want to have to mess with it to get it back to its original color. I would totally be okay with this!
