Remember when Laptop would complain about her tiny company and get pissed when we would suggest that she take her issues to the non-existent HR department? That used to crack me up every time.
"Um, have you tried going to HR?" "THERE IS NO HR YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKERS!!!"
He shared her personal medical details though right? Why wouldn't it apply?
Because he's not her doctor? It only applies to medical professionals.
Fair enough. I did know that but it all gets blurred here where I work, so I forget (we ALL get HIPAA threats, even though only a small percentage of us actually work with the medical insurance side).
We can all agree it's still extremely wrong and unprofessional, yes? In addition to the discriminatory remarks he made. I just feel like he messed up twice here.

Thanks for the play by play.
Did anyone else wonder why she needed to provide a note for a day off? In any professional environment I've worked in, if I needed a day off I would either put it in the scheduling system or tell my boss outright that I needed a day off - no need for a note from a doctor until I'd been sick for 3 or more days in a row (or if you were calling in sick on the day before or after a holiday since you wouldn't get holiday pay if you were 'sick').

It's not HIPAA-protected but HR likely considers it sensitive.

This is where I am at with this. That's a pretty shitty work environment if a boss requires you to bring a note in to take a day off or prove that you were sick (unless it's 3+ consecutive days). It makes it that much more satisfying that this bastard got what was coming to him...

She may be using FMLA intermittently and needed to document it. I used FMLA when I was doing fertility treatments.

You could be right. I am just betting from his obvious asshattery that this wasn't the case...

I'm legit shocked that he was fired so swiftly. I work for a fairly large company as well and to fire someone here takes an act of Congress with about ten different people signing off on the termination.
I feel so badly for this poor admin. Fertility treatments are hard enough without being stressed and worried about getting the necessary time off. I could not have gone through treatments without my supportive boss who let me take all the time I needed without explanation. Fuck this douche.
Dude, your company gets more shit taken care of in 4 hours than mine would have in 4 days. That is awesome. Peace out, motherfucker.
Well, in your company's defense, you're ON HERE FOLLOWING THIS THREAD. GET BACK TO WORK! (j/k I'm not caught up yet but you gotta stay through to the end, right?)
