I have a question that I don't know how to ask without being offensive. But... I truly wonder what the 16 women who are voting for Trump get from hanging out on this board full of smart, strong women who are constantly talking about how to advocate for ourselves at home, work, life? What in the world is the draw here for a Trump supporter? Maybe they just hate read us. lol
Note: This is specific to Trump voters. Not anyone else.
Well apparently Ivanka says her dad is going to pay for daycare. lol for days.
Ivanka also said that her dad is very traditional and not the "diaper changing type."
I admit that I will never know the deeply entrenched level of disenfranchisement that so many people of color experience, so maybe my judgment is clouded by that. Â But racist white assholes are going to vote, and if they're the only ones who bother to do it then we're going to have President Trump busy moving Muslims into ghettos and deporting Hispanics and labeling Jews and starting WW3. Â
Don't you get it? Racist white assholes have built this systemic mess. I don't get why people are finally waking up to this, and acting brand new. So, someone in this position as I'm describing likely isn't going to care to take a wider worldview, when the status quo of their day to day, won't change a bit. I mean, they're already dying in the street, and the system to clearing sending them the message that their lives don't matter.  Are their lives going to suddenly matter because their vote is needed to stop WW3? Didn't think so.Â
The minority vote is so so so important, particularly in local elections. Forget the president. Mayors appoint police commissioners.
Eta- not that it's not something we shouldn't all be considering.
HRC. I don't love her - but I will quite happily vote for her.
Honestly, I do not understand how any woman would consider voting Trump. What is it about, "Women - ya gotta treat 'em like shit," is persuasive?
I was listening to NPR on my drive in this morning, and they were interviewing an 18 year old woman from North Carolina. She was saying how she wants to more tolerance from the republican party, they are really going to have to work on reaching out to younger voters. She was then asked if she would vote for HRC. She said, "no, I'll vote for Trump. It's all about party unity" ^o)
and this is exactly why I will most likely end up voting for HRC. I don't really want her anymore, but I SUPER don't want trump and in our state, nobody else is a real factor.
let's just hope NoVA and the college towns can carry the state.
DH came home last night and told me the lone woman on his job of 60 guys said if it's between shit and diarrhea she's going to pick shit. He said most of the ones he's friendly with agreed. They don't really like her but they really don't like trump more.
Can I say how much it pisses me off that people continue to act like Hillary is just barely less terrible than Trump? AGH!!!
I get that people may not like her. They may disagree with some of her policies. They may find certain things about her personality off-putting. Whatever.
But she is an accomplished lawyer. She was a pro-active First Lady who attempted to get healthcare reform passed and succeeded in getting a children's health insurance program passed. She served in the United States Senate for eight years. She served as Secretary of State for four years. Her knowledge of policy, both foreign and domestic, outstrips Trump's in ways too great for words.
They're not even in the same galaxy of bad. Clinton has normal politician flaws but is supremely qualified for the job. Heck, former RNC chairman Michael Steele said as much on Tuesday. Trump, however, is utterly unqualified. He doesn't know anything about governing, and the worst part is that he doesn't know what he doesn't know.
And with maybe the exception of Huckabee and Ben Carson, I'd say the same thing about any of the failed Republican candidates. Rubio, Bush, Kasich, even Ted "most punchable face" Cruz. They understand governing, and they understand the issues. That doesn't mean I'd want to vote for them, just as I can understand why someone wouldn't vote for HRC. But NONE of them are in the same league of terrible as Trump.
This line of argument just drives me bonkers because we are talking about one of the most qualified women ever and one of the least qualified men ever. Even if one despises everything Clinton stands for, talking about them like they're equal is some sexist fucking bullshit.
15 people are voting for Trump? And over 20 SOs are planning to vote for him? :-# See this is exactly what worries me about this election. You would not get the idea there are this many Trump supporters just from going by the political threads on these boards. The Trump supporters are very quiet. It worries me that there might be a lot of secret Trumpers out there who tell the world one thing and then will turn around and do the opposite.
But if that's true, shouldn't we also believe there are secret Hillary supporters? Wives who won't tell a pollster they're voting for Clinton when their husband is in the room, etc
I’ll bite with an AE—but I will not get into an all-day debate over it. I’m voting for Trump because it’s a vote against HRC. I would LOVE to see a woman become president, however, the thought of HRC as the first female president makes me sick. I want the first female president to be someone that my daughters can look up to and I just don’t feel that HRC is worthy of that sort of respect and admiration. Her moral compass is non-existent and she’s untrustworthy. I don’t feel that the best interest of the country is her agenda. Despite the results of the investigations and the rulings with regard to HRC’s indiscretions I personally feel her actions were wrong. Secondly, the political climate of the US is in shambles. The divides that have been placed between the two parties makes it impossible for any sort of forward progress. My hope with such a radical candidate like Trump is that it would make both sides see that extremism either left or right, is not the right answer for our country. The ability to make sustainable progress in our country is dependent on re-establishing some semblance of equilibrium and that can’t be done without a catalyst to swing the pendulum in the other direction.
I also think that Trump's business sense makes him a lesser of the two evils candidate. Despite his lack of experience, I think he's smart enough to surround himself with support staff that are subject matter experts and capable of running their areas--which I think would also be a positive change for our government. From an economic perspective, I think he will be least damaging.
With all of that said, I can understand all of the Trump hate. Some of the shit that comes out of his mouth is downright embarrassing. So, I guess I'm voting for Trump because with these two candidates the next 4 years will be shit either way and I'm voting for the one that I think will (indirectly) spur change within our systems.
I wish when people say they don't like her, they'd say why. No candidate is ever going to appeal to all of your ideals, there's always going to be something you don't like about them. But you should choose the one that you align most with, and even though there are things I don't like about HRC, there's more I don't like about Trump(everything?). And like Harpy said, she is far more qualified and will get the job done. I think Trump will get the US blown off the world.

I rarely comment on this board, but I am in the camp that if you have to use an AE to tell why you're voting for someone, or you don't want to explain why you're voting for someone out of embarrassment or whatever, MAYBE THERE'S A REASON WHY YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR THIS PERSON.

I'm not brand new, I don't think this is brand new. I know that racist white assholes have built this mess. I don't think HRC is any champion of the issues of people of color. Whoever becomes president will individually change the course of very few people's lives. But to think that policies and rhetoric that do impact marginalized people, including people marginalized by the color of their skin, will fare the same under HRC as they will under Trump is not realistic to me.

I shouldn't even comment, but I can't help it. I DON'T UNDERSTAND!! I get that people don't love HRC. But to say she doesn't have a moral compass and is untrustworthy and that Trump is better than her? In what world is Trump trustworthy? Where has he shown he has a moral compass? How can you even compare the 2? It boggles my mind that you can say you won't vote for her because she's immoral, but you'll vote for Trump? How can you think Trump is more moral than anyone? Or more trustworthy???

Trump is giving his VP control of domestic and international affairs (per Kasich but I believe him) That means Pence will be appointing Supreme Court Justices. Do you realize how fucked up that will make our country for the next 30+ yrs? This is not a matter of what happens the next 4 yrs it is a matter of what the country our children inherit looks like.

The fact that people have to make an AE (anonymity on top of anonymity, lol) to even remotely touch discussing this implies something serious about their chosen candidate and how they are planning to spend their one vote. You might want to think on that and why you're still ok with voting for him.

Do you think Trump is a good role model for your daughters? You are OK with him appointing people to the Supreme Court that could be potentially very anti-women?
What makes him more trustworthy than HRC? Name one thing besides the email stuff that makes him more trustworthy.

I am not voting for HC because she is a woman but she is the only option I have. I have never been a fan of her personally but politics are inline with what I believe.
People who can't articulate their disapproval of HRC like the AE really grind my gears. I'd rather you just lie and say you are a small business owner and you think Trump will be better for your taxes. Or you are a doctor in private practice and you just want Obamacare to be repealed so you can go back to not accepting Medicaid patients. Just make up a reason. Don't say "Hilary is evil" or "you can't trust her." You just sound like my crazy uncle. It rings very much like the racist nonsense Obama has been facing for the past 8 years as President. Ask yourself if you would give a fuck if John Kerry used a private email server. I'm really worried that if HRC gets elected there will be more overt sexism than there even is today because of the sexist attitudes surrounding her critics based on vague personality traits. You don't like Hilary. Fine. You don't have to have her over for coffee. She is going to be busy running the country.

I get so frustrated with Trump supporters who feel that 4 yrs isn't that bad and it'll send a message. No it won't and then we ares stuck with 2-3 Supreme Court justices who are anti-choice, anti-rights, anti- anything not white rich male. I am not sacrificing my daughter's future to send a message that won't be given any attention. If trump wins the R's are going to continue to double down on his misogynistic, racist, anti-immigrant bullshit instead if giving us our party back. If you want to send a message vote against him so he looses 'hugely' and the R's realize they can't keep on with this crap.

HRC. Not as enthusiastically as I did in the 2008 primaries, but I think she's qualified. At minimum, she won't run us into the ground like Trump. Truly though I think she'll maintain and even expand on the good that Obama has done. Sigh. I love Obama.
DH came home last night and told me the lone woman on his job of 60 guys said if it's between shit and diarrhea she's going to pick shit. He said most of the ones he's friendly with agreed. They don't really like her but they really don't like trump more.

This exactly. I shake my head at those memes about how horrible they both are- I honestly don't understand even putting them NEAR the same category.

I want to know this too. And like 99% of people will say emails or Benghazi but people hated her loooooooooooong before that.
God, I am sooo sick of the emails and Benghazi. And the double standard from the Republicans when Republican SOSs did the same thing!
15 people are voting for Trump? And over 20 SOs are planning to vote for him? :-# See this is exactly what worries me about this election. I'm worried about this too. Months ago, all of my Republican friends/acquaintances were all, "I'd never vote for Trump!" Lately, it's been radio silence on Trump and lots of vocal criticism of HRC. I feel like it's pretty clear what's going on, and it's terrifying. I do have one close girlfriend who identifies as conservative, and she told me she's voting for HRC, but I think she might be in the minority.
