You know what scares me about Trump? Is that his supporters persist even after you point out the many inconsistencies in his policies and even his own story. He's not a good businessman. He's filed for bankruptcy how many times? He's not a real Republican with conservative "family values." He has never shown evidence of caring about the working class in his life. His entire career has been about enriching himself. But I don't think they really care about any of that stuff. I think they see a vote for Trump as a big fuck you to the "elites" who they hate: the political elites, the "liberal media" elites, the 1%, the highly educated professional class etc. etc. It's very much a way for them to say "I know you look down on me and you can't tell me what to do." There is no reasoning with that kind of emotion. When you get that angry about something, you will cut your nose off to spite your face. They will vote for Trump even when it is not in their own interest to do so.

Because that's definitely not who trump is...
But that's kind of the point, right? Why does anyone think he'll do one thing for the working classes when he has never expressed interest in them before this opportunity to exploit them came along?

Oh, trust me. I know. That's why I'm baffled!! This man doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. How people can't see that...
Look, I know it is normally considered wrong to treat people differently based on their political views.
But would we really look down on Germans in the 1930s who refused to support Nazis and shunned them socially? I wouldn't. We look back and wonder at how this cancer spread and grew, and didn't people see it coming? Why didn't they stop it before it grew too big? Maybe I'm wrong. But the only way to find out if Trump would REALLY be that bad is for him to win, and I'm not willing to take that chance. So I will commence with the prophylactic shunning. I think that someone who will support this man (I mean vote for him directly; I don't feel as strongly about third party votes or staying home) deserves to be told "I don't want to be around people like you. I don't want my country to represent your views."
So, you are right, AE. If I knew you were a Trump supporter, I would not provide you advice and assistance on raising your kids. If you want your kids growing up under that maniac as President, you can damn well go elsewhere to find out about their poop.
Yep as someone tweeted this week
If you ever wondered what you would have done in 1930s Germany now is your chance to know.
The minority vote is so so so important, particularly in local elections. Forget the president. Mayors appoint police commissioners.
Eta- not that it's not something we shouldn't all be considering.
I'm neither speaking to the greater minority vote (I also really cringe at the term), nor the women of this board. When responding to h, I'm speaking to those of color who are the most disenfranchised. They see the brutalist force of race and class divisions all day everyday. Â The ones who aren't supposed to make it past their mid 20s, Â as they are clearly treated as disposable. I used to think that not voting was the worst. However, Â with this election cycle, I can clearly see why they wouldn't go out of their way to vote.Â
Thank you for pointing out that the term minority is offensive. It is not even particularly accurate, is it? Or necessarily relevant.
I can definitely understand giving up. When I lived in West Africa, a good bit of the population was just resigned to the status quo. They had been beaten down one too many times.
I do wish I had understood the importance of local elections at a younger age. They matter so much.
I know my state will go Trump which is sickening. I hate the number of people that I have heard say that will vote for Trump because they don't want HRC to win. NOTHING ABOUT WHAT THEY LIKE/AGREE WITH/SUPPORT/ETC ABOUT TRUMP HIMSELF OR HIS POLICIES. Just that their vote is to keep the other candidate from winning. THAT IS NOT A REASON TO VOTE FOR HIM. It's sad that this is what our election process has come to in our country.
This is exactly why I feel like people need to go and vote. There's enough of this type of support for Trump that we really cannot afford to have people feeling like they can stay at home and not vote for someone else. It's an awful dual party system, but right now that is what we are facing and people can't ignore it.
I'm in the same state as Tami and I'll be voting for HRC. Even if my state won't go her way, every vote sends a message. SaveSave

I've heard because he is respectful to cops and military. I said come see me when your contract is up and you're still whining about your small raise next time because I highly doubt trump is going to come in and boost your salary 10-15%
@littlemoxie, I hit like but I really need a love button for that last post.
I'm just utterly disgusted. Trump isn't a good businessman. It's pretty fucking easy to step on a bunch of little people and treat them as disposable to add to your own bottom line. It's a lot less fun to be respectful of the time and talents of others and maybe take a little less for yourself. And not in a "I'm going to sacrifice recognition of my hard work so that people who don't work hard can benefit" way but in a "I'm going to screw people over by simply not paying them after they perform a service" way, a la Trump.
Plus all the other Trump shit.
ae82, go ask someone else why your kids shit is blue.

Same. And DD will be going with me while I vote and I will explain to her exactly who I am voting for and why.
ae82 , if you're only an occasional poster, why hide behind an AE?
Because she's a delicate nutsack* who wants to continue reaping the benefits of this board without anyone knowing or remembering that she is either a) uneducated, b) a racist, or c) both.
* I will never use the word pussy to describe someone who is a weak punk ass. Pussies are probably one of the strongest things ever, lol.
Do Trump supporters have any thoughts about how this will impact us OUTSIDE of the US? What Trump as president will look like globally?
My guess is no. Their tiny brains can't process that kind of thought.
I'll go with they don't give a shit about other people and countries because it's all about "making America great again."
Accept refugees and be compassionate towards people, no way. Let's deport everyone who isn't here legally because they're taking our resources. Our vets aren't even being taken care of. I imagine this is what their thinking is like.
Can't vote, about to move to the US. Now I know what it must have felt like to be a woman in 1915 as I plead with my husband to take my interests into account when he casts his ballot.
ETA: He is not going to vote for Trump, but I'm trying to get him to vote strategically for HRC rather than another independent.

Didn't you hear? We need Trump to make the world respect America MORE. People don't respect America enough these days. How else will that happen without Trump in charge?
My hope with such a radical candidate like Trump is that it would make both sides see that extremism either left or right, is not the right answer for our country.
So in order to fight extremism, you're going to vote for the most extreme candidate nominated by a major party in our lifetime?
Trump has publicly called for violating the Constitution in multiple ways--he has advocated bringing back torture (ask the 100,000 people executed for witchcraft how well that works), he has called for a ban on a religious group (wasn't this country FOUNDED on the ideal of religious freedom?!), he said women who get abortions should be punished (WTF), he is planning to violate international law (torture, Geneva convention).
Look at the company he keeps: he has praised Putin, praised the American internment of Japanese citizens during WWII, praised Saddam Hussein for killing people.
Look at who he mocks: those without power, without wealth, without the privileges of a white, upper-class man. He has attacked religious groups, people with disabilities, racial and ethnic groups, he has attacked women.
You are literally RISKING OUR COUNTRY to "prove a point" about extremism. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yeah, GTFO America with your Obamacare and hope and change. Your super smart, good looking, nice president was not what the world needed.
You know, if Trump wins, I would consider asking my husband to resign his commission. We'd lose a ton in retirement benefits. He signed up after 9/11 and I think this would be worse.
I'm not sure he'd do it, but I would want to discuss it.
This whole "take America back" and how Hlllary will make the country worse, etc.. I want to know what's so horrible NOW? I mean, yes, there are issues and we are far from perfect. But I'm not seeing what is OMG! America is so horrid!!!!
And what IS horrible, I feel, HAS BEEN MADE WORSE by the very people who are claiming things are so shitty! THEY are the ones making it worse. If they'd shut up and sit down and start trying to actually be bipartisan again and work WITH the other side- they might be shocked that things DO start to get better.
This divisive, "we refuse to work w/ the Dems" is a large part of why we're where we are. There is no "we" anymore. It's "Us" vs "them". The they - THEY, THE GOP _ are the ones who fucking put us here.
I enjoy most on this board and feel I can interact respectfully despite having opposing views--but others on this board can be brutal.
If I come in here 2 months from now needing to know if I should be concerned why my kid's poop is blue, I'll be told it's because I voted for Trump and won't get legit advice.
It's blueberries. Always blueberries.
Or blue frosting (as evidenced by DD eating a blue-frosted cupcake on the 4th of July). LOL

@kirkette, is there anyone you think can do better who was an available choice this election cycle? What confuses me about your position is the lack of an actual viable option other than voting for HRC.
I know it's not a popular opinion here, but although I wish we had an option that would confront some actual problems in this country, I can be content with someone who will appoint Supreme Court justices who won't roll back civil rights and liberties 50 years and a president who will keep Obamacare moving forward and won't actively destroy America's standing in the world. And I see HRC as that candidate. I don't have high hopes for what she will accomplish in this divisive a political environment, but I think she can prevent a backslide.
I have a lot riding on this election, including my marriage and my parental rights. You can bet I'm voting for HRC.

This may get me flamed, but I don't see what good can come of me knowing who my parents are voting for. We've discussed politics once before, and it ended with me in tears. Nothing I say will change their mind. And I am not in a position to cut them out of my life. They are helping keep a roof over my head during my unemployment.

It's hard to say if Bernie would've done better on this issue than HRC. For all his flaws, which were many, I think he may have got it just a little bit more. It doesn't matter though, he wasn't the DEM goldenchild, and his most vocal supporters were crazy. So, there really didn't seem to be a push from within.
I almost wish Biden would've ran, because I think it would've made HRC actually have work on some of her glaring flaws. Without that, she really can coast by keeping the status quo. Her most vocal fans, have continued to deflect her record on this point. But what happens after Inauguration Day?
Keeping the status quo, as it exists now, isn't good enough. So, who's going to push her to do better after she wins? Her inner circle? Or will it be more sitting around and waiting on the race front until the minority vote is needed, for re-election? That's what pisse me off.
Are crazy. I still have Bernie or Busters blowing up my FB.
I agree that HRC is a status quo candidate, and I absolutely agree that the status quo on race issues and police brutality is not an acceptable option. I just feel a huge lack of options and alternatives.
I have a lot riding on this election, including my marriage and my parental rights. You can bet I'm voting for HRC.
This makes sense to me. I have noticed that almost all of my gay friends who have talked about politics are huge HRC supporters. I can think of two (both men) who were big Bernie supporters and now plan to vote for HRC. I don't have a single LGBT friend who has expressed an interest in voting for either Trump or a third party. One wrong SCOTUS appointment could invalidate their marriages, so of course they don't want to play with fire.
