What happened with MittenState? I'm trying to catch up but I see her posts are gone.

She was an ass in the "are your kids the cutest?" that turned into a serious discussion about race after cookiemonster grossly stated her kids got "bonus points" for having blond hair and blue eyes. Despite the heavy discussion going on, wiseowl was not so wise and posted about how her kids were cute. When called out on this, her response was that she was just trying to get back on topic or some shit like that. So then she deactivated and came back to make a woe-is-me non-apology.

I think I hit the highlights, but someone feel free to correct me on any details. My parents are in town so a lot of skimming has been happening.

Mostly she was an ass. Then she was defensive. Then she was more defensive, using her kids. Then the apology/non apology.

I deleted because I thought that was what someone requested? My new name was from Dragonball Z, not intended as the way it came across the irony was shitty. I have been reading through all of the posts so that I may learn from them (race related). I am not sure if I plan to stick around or not, I did not need a poll to reach this conclusion. I did not expect to be welcomed and forgiven with the poll, I wanted to offer a quick way to "ban" me if that was better for whomever I had offended. I see how that was a bad thing to do.

I am remorseful and need to consider how things I say could be viewed, I posted in the cute kids thread without thinking it through and dug my hole. I do have bi-racial kids who are my world, I have not had to work through any race related issues with them (am I wording this correctly?) so besides any run of the mill parent concerns I cannot relate to some of struggles I have read about. That does not make them any less heart wrenching. A boy should never grow from a cute kid into a threat because of his skin color. My kids ethnicity does not make me exempt from being racist, I should have never mentioned that.

We all make mistakes. On GBCN, in the world, at work, as parents.
Own your mistake. Don't defend stupid behaviour. Apologize to the people who have been hurt or offended. Accept the consequences. Earn back the trust/ loyalty etc.
I think the last part is key. Words are easy. Your actions today and tomorrow and the rest will make it easier for people to see what kind of person you truly are.

Read all the other posts from the last 10 days or so. It's an education.
