No no no. White people should NEVER EVER EVER speak or type that word. EVER.
If you're singing along to a song, you just don't say anything during that part. If you're typing, you just don't type it at all (even asterisks would make me uncomfortable.)
... Is GBCN just turning into some experiment in all the horrible things that can happen when too many white people try and fail to talk about race?
This is one of those "don't. just don't." things. It's not hard, even when "just quoting", which isn't required to talk about it.
I think the truth it actually worse than that.
It's always been here and blinders are finally being removed and bullshit is being called out. It's always been here, in probably this frequency, we just didn't notice/care/call it out/i don't know what the fuck.
I agree with @natariru, Tambcat needs to fucking leave. I mean are we really needing/going to miss posts about her H's gross hair, no sex life, Amy's burritos, and Janie and Jack clothes.
Fuck you right out the door Tamb
Or where she talks about yelling at her kids. :/. Too far? Probably since no one knows me, but they make me sad.

No. She doesn't spend any time with them to yell at them. When she does have to spend a few hours with them she can't deal with it. Shes on here saying that anyways.
I don't know what to say to this. Sometimes when I am grading, I get a paper that so completely and utterly misses the mark that I am tempted to just say, "Rubric does not apply." I feel like this is the equivalent in epically failing at "listening and learning" (bullshit phrase anyway) and not being an asshole.

Having another child seems like an .. interesting choice. But I guess when her mom does the heavy lifting by providing free childcare then who cares. Just think of all the baby clothes to buy and the 'matchies.'
You know how people are always saying that they don't participate because they are afraid of saying the wrong thing? Here's a helpful hint: Using the most hateful word in existence will always be the wrong thing.
And yet again it appears that the barrel has no bottom.

Maybe it's a game? The PMs are flying and you get the short straw and have to post I am so glad I am not a cool kid. It's better to be a loner and then nobody disappoints you.
It's not a game. If it is - it's sick. And the whole thing is just stupid. Sometimes I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but here? I'm not sure I can bend over that far.
I am stunned that someone would use that word, let alone after all the discussions lately on this board. What the hell was she thinking? I don't even know what to say, it's just so so so wrong to ever use that word. Ever.

Like I said in response to the posted article, there are many things white people can or should acknowledge ignorance on (ex: an understanding of what it is like to be a poc in today's society). This is not one of those things.
I mentioned deleting this board a few days ago. We certainly have reached the point of no return.
Didn't she say that on April '12 board though? I mean MMM's track record lately is disgusting don't get me wrong.
......and after days and days of naval gazing and weeping and gnashing of teeth, it happened AGAIN today on *this* board. The fact that one thing was said on April 2012 does not mean this someone shouldn't light a match on the way out of this board, Angela Bassett style.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley

It happened on here again today?! See that's why I was checking. I don't get on much during the work day and catch up at night so I missed that. Ugh people come the fuck ON!!!

Did you not even read page 1 of this thread?
I'm on the app so my pages arw different, but yeah I did. It was posted yesterday, not today which is why I was shocked when she said it happened TODAY. Today as in Thursday, not a day ago on Wednesday.
As a kid my mom ENGRAINED in me that "if you hear this word" you are NEVER TO REPEAT IT. It's not ok to even WHISPER IT. It is not ok to WRITE IT out. It is not ok to say it in the privacy of your bedroom just because it's a bad word that you've never been able to utter before and you are a stupid kid who swears behind closed doors. She explained that this word defines the oppression of so many, and is is the definition of hate. A power trip to the extreme.
I vividly remember my mom pausing a movie, shaking her finger at the screen, and KNOWING not to ever touch that word. Ever. And the TV being turned off, VHS thrown back into the case and being returned to the rental store.
My mom also pulled some documents out of her desk that night. Historical family documents. A will from an ancestor stating which family members were to inherit which slaves. PEOPLE. These are REAL people. Do you know how messed up that is? That my family actually owned people? And not only owned them, but that even in death these PEOPLE were not free? That they were passed on for generations? THIS IS THE SHIT THAT HAS HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY. A place so many ran to for freedom, yet immediately began to oppress others. Even today we should be SO ASHAMED. Generations have been affected. These papers. She shook them in my face. "THIS IS WHY WE DON'T ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WORD." We can't forget. Because POC will never live on this soil and have the luxury of "forgetting". I am so ashamed. And I share my story because so many people don't "get it". Even if your ancestors haven't been here for even a generation. They got to step foot on this American soil over here, blink, and blend right in.
My mom. The narcotic addict who is a convicted felon. SHE GETS IT.
I'm a blue eyed blonde, pale as a ghost white woman, who grew up in Maine, FWIW, with ancestors in the north and south immigrating as far back as the early 1600's. And when I hear that word, I want to fucking VOMIT.
SHIT, tamb.
YOU NEED TO START GRASPING. It's not a matter of "oh I read somewhere that the word *insert some scholarly reason why it's progressive to use it*" ... Why are you retaining BS, and not whatever life experience exposed you to "DON'T EVER SAY THAT WORD"??
What do you honestly think the EMOTIONS are for POC who are subjected to reading such a word? Think it makes them comfortable?
Shoes. Put your feet in someone else's for a change.
