Unless people are reaching into your bank account for your money to spend on their kid, why the fuck does it matter what they buy or how much they spend on THEIR kids?!
We are firmly middle class, MAYBE on the cusp of upper-middle, and I'm sure plenty of you would be aghast at our Christmas budget.

It's hilarious how riled up people get. I don't think an lv is worth that much, but not my money so I don't care. Let's see how many pages this thread gets.
Big deal. People spend that kind of money on gaming systems and no one bats an eye.
This is what I was about to say. My son got a PS4 last Christmas and many of his buddies, in the past year, have gotten one too or an XBox. You're talking at least $300. Add in extra controllers and games? You're getting close to $500.
And I can't tell you how many of DSs friends also have their own iPads. Poor DS is forced to share mine. (Or maybe I'm the sucker in that equation??)
If the family can afford it, why does it matter what they give their kids?
Ahhh...parent our own children and not worry about what other people are doing?
Where is the fun in that? Its way cooler to exhibit your superiority by noting how much or how little you spend - if you are spending the wrong amount...
dd has Target''s version of AG dolls and ON polar fleeces #middleclass
She doesn't get a doll that costs $150 minus their accessories or a $75-100 fleece at age 7 ...
You buy rose art crayons don't you?
You can get an AG for less then $150 and the accessories make great gift ideas for relatives and friends. I loved when DH's cousin was into AG it made Christmas and Bdays super easy.
You may choose to buy the Target brand and that is fine if it's what you want to do but judging others for choosing to buy their kid a gift they really want that is in budget is silly and judgey
I skip the rose art's but stock up on the crayolas when they're on sale at the start of every school year ... if someone wants to spend that kind of money on their kids, knock yourself out but there is no way I'm spending that kind of money on gifts for my 7 yo bc they won't last.
I guess I understand if the General theory is "why buy that one for $500 when you can get a brand new good designer bag for $500" but I also don't really care very much and doubt anyone looking at it would know or care that it's used.

DD plays with my AG from when I was a girl and they are in great shape. She is 6 and so far no issues with not treating them properly even with ASD she is able to play nicely with the dolls and hasn't done anything to damage them.
DH's cousin had her AGs from around 6 as well and they were still in great condition when she stopped playing with them last year at 11
That sounds excessive to me. But I've attended preschool birthday parties that probably cost more than that. Some how this feels more ostentatious.
I don't know what an appropriate price for a used LV purse is, though. Is she overpaying?
Depends on the bag.
I don't think spending $500 on a gift for a child is extravagant if you can afford it.
I simply think spending that amount of money on a used LV bag is stupid. You don't know where it's from, where it's been, etc. You may not even know if it's real. It's not like buying a used car, which should have verifiable documentation.
I stand by my opinion that buying a used Louis Vuitton for $500 is stupid, and I don't care if anybody shames me for it.
This seems like a shitty perspective to take. LV purses last forever. Why not save some money if a new one isn't a priority? Choosing to buy something (anything) used doesn't necessarily mean that person can't afford new; it could just mean they don't value the new item enough to pay more for it. Like, we will never buy a "new" car. And frankly even if they can't afford a new LV purse, who cares? It seems so mean to laugh at them/look down at them for that.
See my previous response.
I actually wrote it without even reading your post! Down to the used car analogy. LOL.
A purse is not a car. This is dumb. Plain and simple.

This is so funny. You said Rose Art crayons. They are the crayons that turned me into a crayon snob. I bought them once bc they were cheaper and now know Crayola is the the ONLY kind of crayon to buy.
Most purses come with a card verifying authenticity but I don't know how easy those are to fake or if someone would know to ask for it.
But how easy would it be to forge one? Pretty damn easy.
And somebody buying used might not know the difference.
There are far fewer safeguards here. It's really not like buying a used car at all.
My take is, if you're going to drop a chunk of change, you'd best get your money's worth. To me, a used $500 LV bag is a foolish purchase. To that woman, maybe it's just fine and dandy.

This prompted me to peruse the Louis Vuitton website and I have come to the conclusion that the vast majority of those purses are ugly AF, so $500 is way too much indeed.
Also, I feel like 50-70% of the posts on this board fall into the "silly" and "judgmental" category, so I'm not sure why we're in a huff about this one.

The board will cease to exist if there isn't an outrage of people judging an issue vs. people who are overly breezy.
