My friend just told me she bought her 6th grader a used Louie Vuitton bag for $500. I looked at her like she was nuts. Why does a 12 year old need a $500 bag?
Idk, if they were going to spend $500 anyway, and the daughter loves expensive bags, used seems like a good way to go for a preteen. Now if it's not in their budget then obviously it's dumb lol. I think it was around that age I got a used coach crossbody and was thrilllled.
American girl dolls and Patagonia jackets seem like normalish middle class Christmas gifts? I'm missing something...

There is an 8 year old with a fully functional iphone in my daughter's dance class. Some people just need to set their money on fire I guess.
To each their own.
My ex got my daughter an iphone at 6. SIX. It came to my house exactly once a year or so ago, she kept trying to sneak it to text people (her dad's girlfriend and my mom, so not anyone sketchy, but she knew she wasn't to use it unless she was calling her dad) and it never came back again.
There is no way I'd spend that much when my daughter can't even make it a school year without killing a bookbag.

I don't spend $150 on a single item for my own kids, I'm surely not spending that on my niece.

The more people talk (complain) about Christmas gifts the grumpier I get. Who gives a flying monkey shit what someone is giving as a gift? You're not paying for it. How do you know what they can and cannot afford. I need to stop opening gift post.
