starlily I'm so sorry. I hope your SIL/BIL and friends make it through this without property/personal damage. Fire scares me more than flooding. I'm going to look up ways to contribute to relief efforts to those who have been affected. Texas needs to help California, who donated generously to us after Harvey. And if you know of specific places I can donate supplies via Amazon or money via venmo/PayPal please let me know.
sonrisa , it sounds like they are well-stocked right now. Do you know what else they might need in the next few days?
Marin is. They said to check back in the morning in case things change - moving fires may force more people out of the sonoma and napa shelters and down to marin. I don't know about other shelters up north.
DH said to contact CVNL for information about volunteering and donations https://cvnl.org pinkdutchtulips 1confused1 sushi

CVNL's website said they're not looking for volunteers at this moment to allow first responders to work unimpeded.
Bohemian mango: Are you near the fire on highway 37? Stay safe.

I remember watching the Santa Anas from my grandmother's house many times during fire season. It's terrifying and awesome (in a horrible, mesmerizing way) to watch the mountains glow orange from the wildfires. And this was years ago, during less lethal fire seasons. This year has been so much worse than anything I've ever seen. Please stay safe, everyone down there.
My sister, niece and nephew and their families are on the safe side of the mountains right now from the fires in northern California, in the Vacaville/Dixon area. My grandparents moved to Napa when I was a teenager and I have many fond memories of the area. My sister and her family are safe, but two people they know have lost everything in the Santa Rosa fires.
If anyone is in that area, there is a donation site for the Atlas Fire at Imagine That, 848 Alamo Drive, Suite B, Vacaville. Personal hygiene, food, clothing (good stuff please, not stuff they'd have to sort out, and *new* socks/underwear, is what I always request for donation drives). You can also send items there via Amazon, I'm sure. There is also space at the Solano Community College for those that need a place to stay. Here is the FB page they set up with contact information: www.facebook.com/donateatlasfire/?hc_ref=ARRTppfjYuBndUW6751n_laZmCTXadwlTQr_uCtJeQMtdzQ2OCRhWxayEAKYVXwo4hs&fref=nf&pnref=story.unseen-section
They should set up a Paypal account, but they haven't done so yet. There are several GoFundMe accounts going around.

I know I said this above but it bears repeating.
Eleven dead, 150 people missing, 2000 homes destroyed, 10s of thousands of acres on fire.
Gov. Brown sent a five-page letter to Trump asking for federal aid. And SILENCE from him. Not even a fucking tweet. Where is our state of emergency? Did I miss something??
It is just awful. We had a house rented in Sonoma in a few weeks and received a very sad email yesterday that it burned to the ground. We have family and friends that have evacuated. What is the best source for updates?

This is ENRAGING. It shouldn't matter that he didn't win CA or that CA became a sanctuary state or whatever other beef he has with the state. THESE ARE AMERICANS AND THEY NEED HELP. ANY OTHER PRESIDENT, republican or democratic, would acknowledge and send aid.

We've said the same about Puerto Rico and it means nothing to him. At least in Northern California, people have some where to flee to.
The smoke is just getting worse. The air pollution level at shelter locations ranges from 256 to 486. San Rafael is 256 "very unhealthy." All other shelter sites are in the "hazardous" (emergency conditions) 300+ range.

I know. I am pretty enraged about the response to PR too.

How awful Fires are so fucking scary.
I'm sorry for all of those with loved ones and friends who've lost their homes.
Napa is still one of my most favorite vacations I've ever taken. Two of the wineries that have burned are close to my favorite winery of all time. I haven't heard anything about that one yet.
21 dead, 285 missing, they evacuated Calistoga and the fires are still spreading. Absolutely devastating.
I’m pissed beyond belief that 45 is more concerned about getting into it with NBC than even fucking acknowledging our tragedy. I know we should expect this after Puerto Rico but I have to say it. This must be the anger stage of grieving because I’m LIVID.
To give some perspective on how massive this is, we live south of San Francisco, across a body of water and on the other side of a mountain, and the air quality is a serious concern. And we’re fine, of course, that’s not my point. But my heart is breaking for the people actually in the thick of this. If it’s this bad where we are, just imagine what people are dealing with across the bay.
the air quality is so bad that MULTIPLE school districts are closed tomorrow including dd's. even the Y (before/after school care) is closed as well. given the late notice, 7:30pm, LOTS of working parents are going to have to either take PTO or SCRAMBLE to find alt arrangements on super short notice. Schools are expecting to be closed friday as well ... not sure how long they plan to keep schools closed

eta - i'm 20-30 miles south from the fires
It's so bad. Our district is open tomorrow, but there is no outside time for the kids.
My heart is breaking for everyone in the North Bay.
