I hate to be the board rule-master, but can we take the Moore discussion to the Moore thread and save this one for focusing on the problems in our own house?
I havent read this whole thread, im in an all day meeting, but i want to add:
We can be disappointed. *i* am disappointed. But we need to hold all men, regardless of political affiliation, to the same standard. This kind of bullshit SHOULDNT be ignored. Harrassment is harrassment. The victim was impacted by this greatly. Men, and society, need to be taught that women and womens bodies are NOT a joke. Its about respect at EVERY LEVEL. Little, or not so little, jokes add up to a lot in a lifetime.
I don't understand how I can be so conflicted in my feelings. Is it conditioning that makes we want to excuse the behavior? I think his second apology is reasonable and I know several good men who are coming to terms with their own shitty behavior and working to make amends. He's done some good things in the Senate and is a strong voice against the current administration. And now I can't help but wonder if he has abused his power in any way. I feel so uncomfortable with him saying he is an advocate of women's rights when all I will ever see is that photo. So I echo the sentiment of others, you want to make it up to women? Then resign and help put a woman in your seat.
On a side note - I am genuinely curious if this is how POC feel when white people discover their own shitty racist behavior. I understand much better how/why you will never trust white people, and that it doesn't matter if I feel sorry about my actions.

Wasn't someone here commenting on how curious it is that so many of the liberal offenders are Jewish? I'm not saying that to indicate that only Jewish men are engaging in this behavior; on the contrary - why aren't more non-jewish men getting called out for this?
I'm not sure how the OP thought this was going to go down, but there is a picture of inappropriate behavior. Actual evidence, but no, let's not believe the woman who finally had the courage to speak out about this 11 years later.

This aspect is making me uncomfortable and I’m glad it’s being noticed. Also, I liked your phrasing. Where are the call outs for the non-Jewish liberal offenders? Because not only are they obviously out there, statistically we know they have to be the majority

I'm worried that the bleakest and possibly most realistic outcome is that Dem's purge, as we should, and Moore gets elected, and no R's take responsibility for their behaviors, and Trump wins in 2020. And we all have fucking asshole men to thank.

I'm worried about this, too. But it can't be an excuse to let sexual harassers slide because we happen to like their politics or because the other party is full of spineless shitpigs.
We are on the right side of history. We have to act like it.

yes, me. i've been deeply uncomfortable with how this has been playing out thus far.
I think I find white people so untrustworthy in general, particularly white men, that this whole thing is just uncomfortable. Women, POC, Jewish people, etc. are just pawns in their power game.
I'm just waiting for this to reach a powerful black man with a white accuser to see how that plays out. And no, Cosby doesn't count.
The fact that the senators are not calling for his resignation suggests that they are both tone deaf and interested in protecting other people in the party who have done much worse.
Al Franken has been given a golden opportunity here. We are in the middle of a moment. He can either weaken that moment by staying in his seat, or he can do the right thing, resign, and allow the momentum to build and for new standards to be set. If he is truly sorry, if he truly wants to be an ally to women, and if he truly wants to see justice done, he can show that right here, right now, by giving up his seat. So that when the next asshole gets outed, and the next one, and the next one, they can all be judged against this bar.
He needs to do it before the party realizes that mere ethics investigations are not enough. He needs to do it before an ethics investigation turns up anything else. He needs to do it before the GOP tries to re-occupy the moral high ground.
Please send this to him. Tweet it, put it on Facebook, something. Fuckung Dems always fucking up when it’s an easy slam dunk. Rid the party of his foolish ass and force the other side to follow suit.
Thanks! I did put a shorter blurb on Facebook along the same lines. I will write my Senators with this though!
I will try putting it on Twitter later. I think I have about four non-bot Twitter followers, and one of them is a man who is on my shitlist because of his defense of Louis CK last weekend. (He said he was sorry!!!!) For those of you who know my real name, you can find me on Twitter with that. I'll put it up later if you want to retweet.
(I thought Al Franken was gay. I don't really know that much about him, if he's married or anything. He just pinged my gaydar.)
It doesn’t matter.
My former roommate who is gay routinely had over some of his male gay friends and two of them talked about loving my boobs and grabbed them, saying it was okay because they were gay.
I laughed it off because that’s what I have always done, but it was NOT okay.

I was sexually harassed by a gay man at my old job. He also said it was okay to grab me because he was gay.
