What’s funny is that Carter was just like an intern but all of a sudden he is now part of the campaign and involved enough so Nunes can make a stupid memo.
And I guess it does not serve Nunes's point for the fact that CP had been under investigation for years, because I think we are supposed to think that he only came under investigation because of the Dossier. And that the only reason Trump is being investigated is because of Carter Page?
bex,, you are on my level with these questions. I'm seriously so lost on what the point of all of this is.
That’s it? Dishonest and misleading memo wrecked the House intel committee, destroyed trust with Intelligence Community, damaged relationship with FISA court, and inexcusably exposed classified investigation of an American citizen. For what? DOJ & FBI must keep doing their jobs.

To find a reason to fire Rosenstein. That’s all this is.
So if #45 thinks he can use this as the reason to fire Rosenstein, I'm not sure it'll work out the way he intends.
Mike Levine @mlevinereports
Atty Gen Jeff Sessions went off script at human trafficking event this morn to praise Deputy Atty Gen Rod Rosenstein, a reported target of Nunes memo. Noting Rosenstein has 27 yrs at DOJ, Sessions said Rosenstein represents "the kind of quality & leadership that we want" in DOJ.
so basically, it is full of nuance that people should be aware of, but the GOP is banking on the dumb fucks that support them. and it will work!
I think this sums it up. It's not what the memo actually is, it's what the GOP and Fox can make it into and sell to their base because they repeat it over and over. And Nunes crafted it, I'm sure, with that in mind. No wonder Wray called it a false narrative, that's exactly what it's been set up to be and perpetuate. And the opposition to its release makes it seem even more legitimate.
I expect to also hear a lot of, "So is it a national security crisis to release it, or is it a nothing-burger? WHICH IS IT, LIBERALS?!?!?"

You're sadly correct here. As if it couldn't be both of these things at the same time.
June 2016: Steele writes his first memo and sends it to Fusion GPS.
July 2016: After talking with Glenn Simpson, Steele decides on his own to go to the FBI with what he learned. At this same time, Australian intelligence tips off the FBI about the May meeting (this is in the NYT article above). FBI opens a counterintelligence investigation on Papadopoulos. Also the month of Carter Page's trip to Moscow. Busy month.
September 2016: Reports surfaced about the Page Moscow trip, and Page got booted from the campaign. A bunch of campaign people went out of their way to say they don't know Page, he had no role, he wasn't part of the campaign at all. FBI knew Page from the 2013 incident and since he was a known target of Russian intelligence from that time, his association with the campaign and this trip caused them to have concerns.
October 2016: FBI meets with Steele for the first time and lets him know his information aligns with things they already knew (WaPo article above). This same month the FISA warrant is sought for Page.
TL;DR is that the GOP has been trying to say that "this whole Russia thing with Trump and Russia" as 45 puts it is based on Steele's work, which the timeline does not support in any way. Nunes tries to get the text messages worked into his memo by mentioning Papadopoulos but in doing so corroborates the NYT report that the counterintelligence investigation was opened months before the FISA application he's trying to call illegitimate. Also, when the FISA warrant was granted Page was supposedly not part of the campaign, so they would not be monitoring anything to do with the campaign in the first place if that were above board.

The whole motive behind the memo is SO obvious: Frame the FBI. It's such a hit job. That Papadopoulos thing proves it. It's a red herring to their FISA warrant shit, and the fact doesn't help their case, but they put it in because that's the only way they could figure out how to draw a bullseye on Strzok.
You have to laugh so you don't cry.
Yep. I notice his sordid affair is highlighted, because that's totally relevant and not a blatant character assassination.
Thanks pitta12. So basically it’s like Maddow said in that tweet. Nunes wants to make it seem like the dossier started everything but the investigation was already well underway before that.
The hits just keep coming. Not one judge but four judges signed off on the Page FISA renewal.
Kyle Griffin @kylegriffin1
“A Democratic congressional source with direct knowledge told NBC News that four separate FISA judges reviewed the surveillance application and renewals of Page.” NBC News link
It’d be hilarious if this turns the GOP and its base against FISA warrants. If you’re not doing something wrong what do you have to hide??? It makes us safer! Patriot Act4eva! Who cares about rights? Terrorism!!!
It’s laughable yet supremely rage inducing. Much like the last 2 years have been.
CNN interviewed some of Nunes’ constituents: “He’s a man of integrity, & um, he’s not gonna do this to help President Trump, no no! He wants to get to the bottom of this issue , & bring full disclosure to the American people.” Different upper-middle-aged white guy, “I think he’s (Nunes) a patriot, & I’m extremely proud of the way he acted in his role as Head of the Intelligence Committee! And I think this memo is As Important as what happened in Watergate!... Parts of the government are being used for political purposes & that runs against our rule of law,” random white dude in Fresno, CA. 😐🤦🏻♀️😐
And another thing - the memo doesn’t actually allege that anything illegal happened! No violations of the FISA statutes or process, no wrongdoing by anyone who signed it, no negligence by the judge(s) - nothing! How is this supposed to be cover for firing Rosenstein??

it’s like what eclaires was saying above. If this is supposed to provide cover for firing rosenstein, it doesn’t do a good job of it.
