What is the actual significance of the dossier being oppo research. I understand the *argument* of bias, but research is useless if it’s biased. So the argument doesn’t hold up. Am I missing something?

The significance is that it's something Nunes and Hannity can latch onto to fire up the base and sow discord over the investigation.

Especially since most of them won’t and/or can’t read it.
Ted Lieu: Now that folks realize the #NunesMemo is a nothing burger, let's ask the real questions: -Why is @realdonaldtrump so scared of the @fbi surveillance of Carter Page? -What did that surveillance reveal that caused multiple judges to extend it? -What's in the Carter Page tapes?
(Sorry for his use of the hated nothingburger, dammit Ted!!)
Exactly, Ted. The Republicans are focusing so much on how the information was collected (which looks to be all legal to me due to their insistence that we can spy on all citizens), that we're not asking WHAT was in the surveillance.

I can’t bold but your sentence in the parentheses is what I keep going back to.
Yeah. I will even admit that without knowing anything else, the FBI probably should have put in the FISA application info about how Steele was working for Trump's political opponent. I don't know if I'd say it's "highly relevant" or "critical," but I feel like it's the right thing to do. If the shoe were on the other foot, and it was the Trump administration trying to get a FISA warrant on Adam Schiff, and cited as one of several pieces of evidence the basis of some research paid for by the RNC, that is information a judge should have to be able to ask necessary questions.
It sounds like the fact that Steele was working for a political opponent was in the application.
Yeah from what I’ve read, it sounds like Nunes is specifically complaining that it did not use the words “politically motivated”, but if the application itself said the research was paid for by a political opponent than there is no problem.
I hope that application gets released.
Also someone on one of the shows pointed out last night that FISA warrants are typically like 150 pages long. I didn’t know that but I feel like that needs to be broadcast everywhere.

Wouldn't it likely contain information that shouldn't be publicly available?

A former CIA head (maybe from under Bush? or a deputy or something) said something to that effect on twitter. Basically that FISA warrants are really long and so any memo that boils one down to 3 pages is just going to be missing lots of information.

So the implication is that the judges are stupid? Because if it says the research was paid for by a political opponent, wouldn’t the logical conclusion be that it could be politically motivated. The fact that Nunez thinks that needs to be spelled out is ridiculous.

I’m fine with it being heavily redacted but stuff that can be public should be at this point.
I apologize if I missed someone mention this, but what about the judges who approved the warrants? Wouldn’t a legit investigation obviously be concerned with their opinions/ thoughts/ concerns before publicly broadcasting this? Has anyone seen any further information concerning this or is it a moot point in this ridiculous chaos?

And these same Republicans were the ones saying it didn’t matter who hacked the democratic emails and what mattered was their content.

I don't entirely hate nothingburger in the context of this memo. It's sort of like nasty women and bad hombres - stupid phrases that trump/GOP have tried to use against others and I like when they are used against them. Trump apparently considers nothingburger to be a grave insult since he himself uses it, so hopefully it pisses him off for the memo to be referred to as a nothingburger. Nothingburger.
I can't wade through 8 pages... but has someone looked into to seeing if obstruction of justice applies to every single member of congress who aided in the creation and dissemination of this memo?

I saw the answer to this question somewhere else, but I can't recall where. There's something called the speech and debate clause that protects members of congress from civil/criminal charges for their votes, but there's an open question of whether that would apply to Nunes and/or staffers who worked with White House on drafting of memo. That's the extent of my knowledge.
Apparently Trey Goudy did read it. If the rumors are true and he is going to be nominated for a Fourth Circuit seat, his confirmation hearing ought to be interesting.

Even if Goudy read it, by the time Nunes summarized it's like a game of telephone. The duck went to the bank to see the king.

I thought I read he had declined? Maybe I’m drunk.
