Pence has hired Katie Waldman, 27, to be his new press secretary, per NBC. She was a spokesperson for DHS under Nielsen, then comms director for Sen McSally.
Ive also seen some reporters on Twitter saying Waldman is dating Stephen Miller. But this article doesn’t mention that and I don’t see any others at the moment:
seeyalater52 , I am so cranky about it. He's less progressive, less experienced, and you're just swapping out one rich white guy for another. This isn't the same thing as Pressely and Capuano. Or even Richie Neal and Alex Morse this cycle (which is going to be SO INTERESTING to watch.)
I guess I'll just sit over here being happy it isn't Seth Moulton, ha.
OMG YES on Neal and Morse. I'm from Neal's district and while I definitely think he isn't progressive enough for the district, Morse would not be my choice for that seat - but it is DEFINITELY fascinating.
But so cranky. Sit down Kennedy. I'd be pretty shocked if he won the primary, though. Which really begs the question of what he thinks he is even accomplishing here.

I didn't know you were from Neal's district. So am I. I grew up in Monson. I have joked about moving into my parents' basement to primary him. I don't know that much about Morse, but he seems much better than Neal, who is worse than useless.
I don't get what Kennedy is doing, unless he's counting on Warren winning and is trying to get a jump start on her seat.

413 represent! haha. Neal has been in office almost my entire life. I keep trying to figure out if Kennedy is somehow trying to actually make a move for Warren's seat (like she gets the nomination and steps down so we're only stuck with an interim R, and he runs), but nothing but white male hubris makes any sense.
Unrelated MA politics (sorry everyone!) but i need to know who the 21% of people from Fall River are who voted for Correia. (For those not from here, Correia is the current Mayor, but is under indictment. He came in second in the primary yesterday.)
I think the whistleblower thing has to do with the spy we had to rush out of Russia.
Someone posted a tweet with a timeline of things happening around the time the complaint was made. That makes the most sense I think. Especially since even leaking about any spies like that, is so unprecedented.

Someone got to him. He deemed the complaint credible and urgent and now it seems like he’s trying to bury it now that shit hit the fan?
If I'm understanding the rules, the IG doesn't have the right to tell. The Director or the WB can, but the IG can't. The way Trump & Co destroy their foes, I want the IG to follow the law on this.

I thought the spy was rushed out in 2017 and had been living in DC, it just made the news during the suspected timeline.

Yes. But the president can decide to turn him over whenever. What a coincidence that the complaint about a promise to a foreign country, happened just a few weeks before the leak happened. The spy was probably one of the most classified secrets we had. Those leaks don’t just happen. Unprecedented.
A DOJ official said it was DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel that gave advice to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence on whether to disclose the complaint. Asked whether A.G. Barr was personally involved, the official declined to comment.

My brother lives in Monson! They bought a house there a couple of years ago but had rented in town for a few years before that. They love it. No one ever knows where that is when I tell them, though. <---substantive!
It looks like Kennedy's seat may be a bloodbath, and all for nothing it if he loses in the primary. I still say he needs to run for Governor if Healey doesn't want it.

Thanks! I was hoping there would be a better explanation.

Small world! I grew up in Charlemont. Neal is absolutely useless. But I have also been horribly unimpressed with Morse's effectiveness so far. He is young and full of himself and it REALLY shows. He's the same annoying white dude frat boy persona that annoys me about so many male politicians but wrapped in a little gay boy body so we are apparently supposed to look the other way?
It is strange to me to assume Kennedy thinks Warren is going to win the primary (as much as I would love that!) at this stage. As 5kcandlesinthewind said maybe he is gunning for Governor but it would be much cleaner to just DO THAT instead of challenging a beloved progressive incumbent in a high profile power grab. A lot of people would WELCOME him to challenge Baker who think he has no business running for Senate.
Gunmaker Colt says it is suspending its production of rifles for the civilian market including the popular AR-15.
Colt’s chief executive officer, Dennis Veilleux, says it is not permanently ending production but believes there is already an adequate supply of sporting rifles on the market. He said in a statement Thursday the company will concentrate on fulfilling military and law enforcement contracts with its rifle manufacturing.
The West Hartford, Connecticut-based company has received some criticism from gun rights advocates for moving away from the civilian market.
Veilleux said in the statement the company remains committed to the Second Amendment and is adapting to consumer demand.

Hahaha so funny! I agree it's total white male hubris.
Also Fall River is super local to me now and mannnnnn that election was totally whack. I am so confused about how that even happened given that it feels like Correia is in the news every day...

Breaking via NYT: A potentially explosive complaint by a whistle-blower in the intelligence community said to involve President Trump was related to a series of actions that goes beyond any single discussion with a foreign leader, according to interviews.
Can someone take pity on me? I've been swamped with work for days now. What's the tl;dr on the whistleblower situation?
A complaint was brought to the inspector general and forwarded on to the DNI (who is acting). The complaint should have been given to the committees/gang of 8 but the DNI is not passing it on. Two reasons have been offered for not passing it one A: Told not to by a high authority and B: told by legal counsel not to pass it on given its contents. Reporting indicates the complaint is about conversations between Trump and a Foreign leader.
While I certainly believe Trump could have said something so out of bounds that someone in the intelligence community was shocked/concerned I highly doubt this will have any impact on Trump in terms of support across his base or in the senate. This seems like just one more example of Trump breaking norms and it not mattering.

Some unnamed intelligence official reported to the appropriate people that there was some major national security issue with someone. The report was done in accordance with a whistleblower statute. Per that statute, Joseph Maguire was supposed to share the report with certain people, including the House intelligence committee. He did not. He instead shared it with Bob Barr.
Adam Schiff knew that a report was made but issued a letter to try to get a copy of it. When Schiff released his letter, that was the first the public knew about. Since then, we've learned that Trump was the person on whom the whistleblower had concerns, and that it involved something Trump said on a conversation with an unknown world leader.
A whistleblower complaint about President Trump’s communications with a foreign leader centers on Ukraine, according to two people familiar with the matter
Ugh it’s about Ukraine? So it has to do with them trying to get shit on Biden from Biden’s son being on the board of some gas company.
Great. This is going nowhere. It’s going to be another Clinton Foundation thing, that has just enough salaciousness that it gives them cover for doing anything illegal.
