So what happens if he loses 2020 and leaves? Do you think he/his family will maintain enough momentum for him or, say, Ivanka to run in 2024? I don’t see them taking a 4-year break and losing their grip on power.
I think that a big reason for his "success" is that he has that cult personality that pulls people in. I'm not sure that anyone else in the family has it. From what I have seen of Ivanka, she doesn't at all. As long as we can get rid of him, I don't worry so much about a Trump dynasty.
I also think he’s too selfish to hand things off to a family member. He’d rather keep going on his own.
Guys. He may lose. He may leave. He will be an ass about it until the bitter end but his kids are young and his grandkids are plenty and they are planning their dynasty.

Even if he wins in 2020, I think we are in for a big enough, long enough recession that the pendulum will swing in 2024 and a D will win. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. Of course that doesn’t preclude Ivanka from getting elected to a lower office and eventually running for president later, but I don’t foresee it happening immediately.

My hope is that when this asshole finally leaves office and/or dies, the court cases into his businesses and family shadiness continue. He has the cult personality, but none of his kids do. When all their dirty laundry finally airs through the courts, there's no way they'll be able to drum up the support the way he did. He was able to pull off the con because he has been able to hide the truth. Investigations have started. They won't just go away, and he's not the only one that is/has been involved in shady shit.
I continue to believe (ok, hope and pray) that his adult kids will be fucked with a capital F. Except maybe Tiffany. Even if they don't end up in jail, they'll be exposed for the frauds they are and people will be so sick and tired of hearing about them, that they (hopefully) won't get nearly the political support they did when he was in charge.

I'm cool if she goes down too. She benefits from his money/name and has supported him throughout, even if it's just showing up at things. She can go down with the rest of them as far as I'm concerned.

Oh for sure. I mentioned her only because she didn’t seem to be as involved in his businesses as the rest of the adult offspring, and thus may not end up being implicated in any crime or wrongdoing. But she’s certainly not “detached” from his name, or money, and absolutely publicly supported him. She’s not an innocent party, I just wondered if she would end up being criminally implicated.
President Trump in a July phone call repeatedly pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden ’s son, urging Volodymyr Zelensky about eight times to work with Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer, on a probe, according to people familiar with the matter.
“He told him that he should work with [Mr. Giuliani] on Biden, and that people in Washington wanted to know” whether allegations were true or not, one of the people said. Mr. Trump didn’t mention a provision of foreign aid to Ukraine on the call, said this person, who didn’t believe Mr. Trump offered the Ukrainian president any quid-pro-quo for his cooperation on an investigation.
Mr. Giuliani in June and August met with top Ukrainian officials about the prospect of an investigation, he said in an interview. The Trump lawyer has suggested Mr. Biden as vice president worked to shield from investigation a Ukrainian gas company with ties to his son, Hunter Biden. A Ukrainian official earlier this year said he had no evidence of wrongdoing by Mr. Biden or his son.

Okay so what I’m reading/ hearing: since there isn’t absolute blatant quid pro quo spelled out in the same phone calls, R’s will shrug it off. This is phenomenally depressing. Especially when we look at it through the lens of any other presidency. But here we are.

If you want to watch brilliant satire about UK and American politics, watch Jonathan Pie on Youtube. I went to see him live tonight and he was brilliant (and irreverent).
Trump has approved deployment of U.S. forces after attack on Saudi oil facilities. The forces are defensive in nature and primarily focused on air and missile defense, the Pentagon says
