OMG there are a bunch of local bars that are banding together to throw a huge St. Patrick's day party downtown in my city tomorrow before they are forced to close. What the hell. (I am in IL).
Man, fuck these people. They should be fined into oblivion.
So correct me if I'm wrong but the states that have now elected to close bars/restaurants/clubs are: Illinois, Ohio, California with New York likely to follow. Is that right?
I wouldnt be surprised if RI follows this week. MA seems a little less clear, with Baker making some contradictory statements.
ETA: CA is just bars and wineries I think
CA hasn't closed restaurants but has told them to reduce occupancy by half. I don't know how enforceable that is though.
Own town over from us has their first positive case. Today they announced that as of March 17 all business except groceries and pharmacies must close. Restaurants will stay open for pickup and delivery only.
In my town the Chinese restaurants all said they could for the next 2 weeks close bc business has already been down for the preceding two weeks.

OPM: Open with maximum telework flexibilities to all current telework eligible employees, pursuant to direction from agency heads.
We just got an email (non profit but we follow OPM) that we can telework. Employees who can’t telework can just stay home and get paid.
This will be interesting because my org has done everything in their power to discourage telework and we don’t really have the IT infrastructure for this. Eep.
My husband's a nursing supervisor in the ICU where I work prn.
Currently they've stated that ONLY nursing supervisors are to be performing COVID swab testing in the whole hospital. Based on the number of swabs he's done this weekend, I expect the ND numbers to jump in the next several days.
I told him to bring home a container of Sani Wipes

I'm so annoyed with my inlaws. H talked to MIL tonight. Apparently they went to a home and garden show Friday, church today, and have people over for dinner tonight. ALL of the people are in their 70s.

MN: Seward Co-op just had an employee test positive. Fuuuuuuck.
Also: my company just added 80 hours of additional sick leave, can be used for required quarantine (like if a family member has it). If you actually get it, it would also likely be covered by STD (full pay). So employees should now be on good shape even if they can't WFH.

I will admit, I haven't read all 70 something pages.
How many new Netflix/Amazon/Disney Plus accounts are going to be opened the next few weeks? We just signed up for Disney Plus, already have the other two.

I got the ok to work from home. These next 2 days I’m allowed to fully close my office to get everything prepared to be off-campus (I work with a lot of faculty in-person).
It’s like they don’t even know I’m never coming back if they let me sit on my couch and work 😂

There's a bar near me (also in IL) that says he's refusing to close. I'm hoping he gets fined, but considering his town I doubt he will
I'm genuinely surprised (and highly annoyed) that we have not heard anything from my employer, not even a call to say we're open. I'm guessing so many employees are so confused and just nothing. We have an employee notification system that they've used in the past to tell us "yes the office is open, it's just a little snow/ice/blizzard." They could have used that with the literal push of about 3 buttons.

And it is expected that the mayor of LA will be requiring restaurants to cease dine-in service and move to doing only take-out and delivery for the time being.
So my office plan was to be open the first day they closed down schools and then be closed after that for the duration. I’m already WFH tomorrow morning and then taking the afternoon for an appt.
My boss texted me to tell me she’s not going in tomorrow and apparently the owner is just going to make sure everyone has what they need to work from home (we were supposed to set up phones and computer stuff this weekend) and then let everyone leave.

I just got an email from my vet about their plan and it's fantastic. So, my vet has a better plan than my employer. And clearly better communication skills. wth.
They're taking people straight back to rooms instead of sitting in the waiting room and then having people go out a back door so you don't risk running into someone coming in. Only one person allowed in with the animal (they're amazing so I'm sure there's probably an exception for end of life patients). They have options where you can drop the animal off for their appointment and come back. If you're sick and no one else can bring the animal you can call and they'll come out to the car and get them for you. You can pay for Rx over the phone and someone will bring it to your car. And they're working on a telehealth setup but did caution that this isn't always going to work depending on what's going on with the animal.
Has anyone seen how grocery shopping works in the countries that have shut down? That is my biggest anxiety causer right now. If shelves are already bare, what will it be like then? Europeans don’t seem to be hoarders like Americans are.
My diabetic sister who was hanging at the bar (she lives in Vegas) when I talked to her last weekend all breezy and laughing at me was in full blown panic mode tonight. I had to talk her down - when she FINALLY went to the grocery store the shelves were empty and she’s making backup plans to hole up in her office with other people? Because it’s on the third floor and has a kitchen and a shower and she watched Walking Dead and knows she needs allies....? I wish I were joking, but I calmed her down and convinced her to be chill and just hang at home for a few weeks, so I’ll take the win for today.
