Has anyone seen how grocery shopping works in the countries that have shut down? That is my biggest anxiety causer right now. If shelves are already bare, what will it be like then? Europeans don’t seem to be hoarders like Americans are.
I’m in the Netherlands. Grocery store shelves are bare in many/most stores around here. They are restocking as fast as they can. Grocery delivery is backed up and you can’t get anything for 2 weeks from my store (big chain in NL). I’ve never seen anything like it here - usually people do multiple grocery trips per week and get small amounts. We aren’t even on total lockdown, though today all restaurants, cafes, and bars are closed for next 3 weeks. This had to be done as no one took the social distancing demands seriously. In fact, I heard stories that people from Belgium crossed the border to drink here all weekend since they couldn’t at home. I think it’s a matter of days before we have bigger restrictions

I am in Lux here and we also had a lot of bare shelves here as well. I hope things will calm down in a week or so and people will stop panic buying.
I knew that is was going to happen. We started to stock up when we watched what happened in Italy. When we saw Spain closed down its school we saw everyone leave their homes right after the announcement to go shopping and it was complete chaos. So I told my DH to go shopping everyday leading up to the announcement here so we wouldn’t have to go out in the crowds. And the same thing happened here. The moment they canceled the schools, people went crazy.

OMG the Belgiums also came to Lux to drink this weekend. Thankfully they finally closed the bars and restaurants here

I'm in Qatar and everything is closed with the exception of malls/grocery stores/pharmacies. (I think this is partially because the grocery stores are in malls, but they could easily close the retail stores)!
I think we're in a fortunate position since we've been under a blockade from Saudi/UAE/Bahrain for a few years, and Qatar figured out that they can't rely on others for food/household items. I was at the grocery store last night and everything was well stocked, and the clerks were re-stocking as needed. Now they were out of some brand name items (Clorox, etc) but this is also a tiny grocery store by my house - may be different at a bigger retailer.
For now, I'm feeling okay about the supplies, but I do hope it continues!

My friend in Seattle says grocery stores are starting to improve there for what it's worth.
I'm bouncing back and forth between everything will be fine and needing to buy a dairy cow and turn our front yard into a wheat field.
