I think we are only hearing this narrative because she's a woman and thus supposed to be "nice". She's the boss. She's allowed to be tough. I imagine there are dudes in the race who act the same way and no one says boo about it.
ehhhh...I don't know about that. She is/was legitimately abusive towards staff. Pretty sure we have a poster here who confirms based on personal knowledge. And maybe we only know that because she is a woman, but that doesn't change the fact that it is true. There are some staffers who feel like it has been unfair coverage, because there aren't stories about when she is nice to them...but anyone who has had an abusive boss knows that they can be nice one minute, and awful the next...or sometimes some people only get the nice. I don't doubt that she has been a good boss to some, but there is no excuse for throwing things at your staff or publicly humiliating them.
Not sure if I’m the poster you’re referencing, but my neighbor worked for her and his stories of how she behaved was enough for me to not consider her. This was prior to her entering the race, too.

I had a weird dream last night that Bloomberg tried to hire me as his campaign musical consultant.
This was probably inspired by that fact that I did finally see my first Bloomberg commercial, set to John Mellencamp’s “Small Town,” and leaning hard into that small town nostalgic Americana.
Dream me did not ask him how much he was paying for his campaign musical consultant.
We had a conversation with a moderate colleague last week who I thought had some sense, but he said he would vote Trump over Bernie. I don't think he is alone.
I know SO MANY people in NH who voted for Pete and Amy, but they voted for Trump in 2016. They have all been quite clear that they will vote for him again over Bernie. I wish the Bernie nuts would get this through their thick skulls.
Courting Trump voters isn't going to win this election.
I’ve gotten texts from Bernie and Bloomberg. I vote on Super Tuesday. Bloomberg was just the other day...
I got a text from team Bloomberg too and that was pretty much my exact response back to the staffer.... I just checked it was Jon too, wonder if it was the same Jon.

The man thinks that ending redlining caused the financial crisis. What the fuck is NOT holding me back??

You guys.
I had the MOST ABSURD exchange with a Steyer volunteer.
I was walking back from getting my coffee. She stops me and asks me to sign something. I asked what, she said "get Steyer on the ballot." Me: "No thank you, I'd rather not."
Volunteer: "That's cool, just walk away. That's what everyone does without even listening." Me, feeling generous: "Ok, give me your pitch." V: "This is just to get him on the ballot. Why don't you want him on the ballot?" Me: "Honestly, I don't like that he's in the race at all. I don't think he should be able to buy his way onto the stage. He's spending huge amounts of air time so his name is familiar with low-information voters. He seems nice enough, but I don't find him compelling. There are many other candidates more qualified, and I'd prefer to see a woman/POC."
[Note: had she said, "but shouldn't he be on the ballot and the people can choose?" I might have considered signing. I mean, probably not, but that would have been a better pivot than what came next.]
V: [scoff, rolls eyes] You sound like a WARREN supporter. Me: "How is that relevant?" V: "I'm just trying to have a healthy dialogue." Me: "You might start by listening and understanding that not everyone will agree with you or your candidate, and that's ok. We all want the same things ultimately." V: [eyeroll and walks off] "Ok, MOM"
I wish I could tell you I turned and left, but I told her to fuck off first. Not my finest moment, but WHAT THE FUCK.
I dunno. Nothing else matters other than beating Trump. There is nothing else. Democracy is hanging in tatters and will probably be completely shredded if he gets another 4 years. The only thing that matters is that we beat him. Your perfect candidate does not exist or cannot win. We are going to have to settle for the imperfect. Bloomberg is showing signs that he can go toe to toe with trump, he has money, and infrastructure. There are signs he is building a big tent coalition. And trump seems scared of him. There are no other calculations. Everything will be destroyed if Trump wins again.

Yeah. Fairly certain we all know this. Which is why we can have a nuanced conversation here.

It seems like most are dismissing the Bloomberg candidacy because of his (real) flaws. I felt like making a pitch for the advantages he brings to the table. But yeah, I understand most people here get the severity.

centralsquare UMMMM your closing statement was completely justified. What a turd.
This isn't presidential primary related, but a state senate campaign in NC has taken to publicly smearing my 17-year-old niece because of a question she asked at a candidate forum. The campaign staff are tweeting and emailing nasty things to/about her. Like, who's training you? How does this get your candidate elected? Is a teenager (and brand new voter in November) really the enemy you want to align against? Assholes are everywhere.

That is horrible. Can I get more details on this? Is this someone running for the state wide US senate seat or a local NC state senator?
I am still trying to decide who to vote for in the statewide senate race, so I was just curious.

You can PM if you don’t want to put details here.
I'll PM you!
ETA - It's a local NC senate candidate, not US Senate. Happy to PM details to any locals still deciding on their district Dem primaries!

I live in Charlotte and I have not heard virtually anything from the people that are running for senate. I have seen one ad for Erica Smith ?? I think that is her name. Bloomberg is picking up all kinds of endorsements here in Charlotte. Our African american mayor, city council, former governor. Here is an article about the $$ paid to our city councilman for working on the campaign. www.wfae.org/post/open-checkbook-bloomberg-turns-charlotte-city-council-member#stream/0

I disagree.
Keeping the house and winning the senate may be even more important. Because NOTHING changes if we can't do that, regardless of who wins the WH. If Trump wins re-election, AND we lose the senate/house, then yes, I think our democracy is done.
If we win the WH and lose the Senate, we still have to deal with a rock solid block on any (dare I say all?) legislation put forth and supported by the new dem president.
But if we win the Senate, and lose the WH, at least we have an effective check on his power.

Yeah. Also important. And if we nominate the wrong D like Sanders we may lose all three.

I agree that Congress is important too, but it’s definitely NOT true that a change in the WH only changes nothing. The administrative actions that this president and cabinet members have pursued alone, nevermind executive orders, have resulted in changes from everything to health care to immigration. Many of those things are meaningful changes that can be reversed with a Democrat in the White House.
I've gotten campaign texts now from Bernie, Biden, and Bloomberg. It's been cathartic texting #nooldwhitemen2020 to all of them.
Every time I get a text from Bernie people, I reply that I will never vote for Bernie and will only vote for someone who is an actual Democrat and not someone who choses to be one when it is convenient.

Exactly. The presidential nominee needs to be able to drive turnout for the sake of down-ballot races. So I agree with DotAndBuzz that all is not necessarily lost if we can make gains in Congress but don't win the presidency, but the importance of the right nominee can't be overstated.
I think It’s extremely unlikely that we will win the senate but not the WH. I think it’s slightly possible that we lose the senate but win the WH. The most likely scenario however is whoever wins one, wins the other.
The house is a different ball of wax though. Seems likely we keep it, even if we lose the WH, though I think Bernie at the top could cause us to lose it.

I just freaking hate that Bloomberg has picked right now to pull this stunt of running, because if he's successful then here comes President Koch and President Bezos and will any of them allow for any meaningful campaign finance reform?
Like, I mean, if he's going to save us from Trump, okay, but it's not a great precedent and would be the beginning of a slippery slope. Why funnel my money into a candidate when I can just use it for myself? We've basically seen the end of emoluments, so they are seeing that not only can they just become presidents themselves, they can get even more rich along the way.

Ideal scenario is we keep the house and win the senate and White House. The right person at the top of the ticket would certainly help that goal, and Bernie sure as shit isn’t that person. I don’t think Bloomberg is either, people are going to rightfully be angry at how brazen we are about having become an oligarchy where the White House is for sale. But I do think Bloomberg still has a better shot at winning back the White House, senate or both than Bernie, without question (disclaimer: H works for his company; it’s an excellent company to work for and treats employees very well; we also lived in NYC while he was mayor and while there was a lot I disliked about his tenure, there was a whole lot of good done during that time). I wouldn’t vote for either one in the primary because I think both are absurd choices, but if in June (when NJ finally votes) my choices are Bernie or Bloomberg I’ll vote Bloomberg (if it’s Biden v Bernie I’ll write Warren in).
If we win the senate we have a shot at impeaching again and removing from office, but even if we cut off the head, the GOP is rotten from the top down, so Pence would be not much better.

You think if Trump wins again we will ever see a fair election again? Sincere question. I don’t.

SCOTUS wont allow for meaningful campaign finance reform. Honestly it's basically dead and I have no hope.

I think we all agree that Bloomberg is the lesser evil, but self-funded elections are not a good precedent to set.
