we all need some kind of vice to get us through this. Mine is Oreos. LOL
Have you eaten the Troll ones? What do they taste like?
I’ve tried the green ones with the pop rocks in the filling. They taste like the “fireworks” ones they have for Independence Day. Yummy, but not earth shattering.
We have giant wasps nesting somewhere in the walls of our house. I have killed almost a dozen wasps in the last few days and they keep randomly turning up everywhere. I am allergic to bees and this is basically my nightmare.
I have a phobia of bees, particularly wasps. I would have to move! I would beg someone to come exterminate and be willing to pay just about any amount. Good luck!

The Washington State Department of Health hasn't updated their case numbers since Sunday. I guess there is some technical glitch with their repository (they generally only report positive results for health outbreaks but of course for COVID-19 they're also tracking negative results and it's overwhelming the tool). I am such a numbers/data person so it's making me more anxious than it should.

I really try to avoid tattling to my team member’s bosses (matrix managed organization). But given all of this, and I haven’t heard from a team member since it all started. I suspect he is ignoring me. Which is typical, but usually after a few nags I get a response. But given everything, I am actually a bit worried, too. Basically, dropped off the face of the earth and won’t respond to emails or call into meetings. No out of office response.
Eta: boss confirmed that dude is working, so he is just ignoring me. But like a good boss, she defended him about his high priority work. Kinda like as a good PM, I claimed I was concerned about him bc of everything going on, not bc HE FRIGGIN IGNORES ME ALL THE TIME. Is it just me, or is management being like so much passive aggressive shit?!
When this happened to my H, it turned out his supervisor was in jail for attempted murder. I think your being worried was valid!
That's super shitty he's just ignoring you though. I don't think that should be allowed in a professional setting...

It's possible the DOH is still providing the confirmed cases and death numbers to these research platforms?

Tomorrow morning I am going to try to wake up early and go for a jog outside using C25K. I’m so anxious to leave my house but I know an early-morning solo jog will be fine as long as I look out for others and avoid them. This is as good a time as any to try to develop exercise habits.
I've decided to make this Dry April. My alcohol consumption has shot way up because of this nightmare, and I want to take better care of my immune system right now.
I will need to stock up on Easter candy in these trying times.
I keep thinking about it, but honestly I'm not sure I can. That might say some things I don't want to hear, lol.
Not Canadian but here's what our government is doing We have 38 cases in the country; all are either import or import related so no community spread ... yet. We closed the airport to incoming flights over a week ago and anyone who travelled in the last 2 weeks is supposed to be self-isolating. They are to report their travel and health workers can visit any time to check they are following the rules (they are checking plane manefestos etc). All offices are suppsoed to be doing work from home if possible and there is a curfew from 8pm to 6am everynight. Social distancing is being strongly promoted and gatherings over 10 people are banned. The government has announced a stimulus package aimed at employees - we don't usually have unemployment insurance here but if you are made unemployed during a certain period, there are now some support available. They have also made support plans available for very small business people (like hairdressers, market vendors and taxi drivers). We've ordered extra ventilators and our main university is working on fixing any out of operation ones in the country. We have some PPE, more has been ordered, but there are concerns there.
The big concern is that we don't think enough people are being tested. So far, they are only testing people with symptoms, so there are concerns that some peopel who travelled may be asymtomatic and spreading it. But we are able to test locally and have a good supply of tests.
So overall, we are doing a lot better than most first world countries!!! However this is mainly due to the knowledge that our healthcare system can't manage.
My H and I have been getting along fine, we don't fight much in general so this hasn't been horrible being home all day every day. But I never before realized he sighs, CONSTANTLY. He is stressed about work right now but it's making me a little nuts to heave a big heavy dramatic sigh several times every hour. I'm going to have to warn him not to do that in the office when he gets back to work, lol.
We are moving early next month and I'm getting more and more antsy by the day. The new place is about 500 square feet bigger, is 3 levels instead of our current 1 level, and has outdoor space. It will be a much better setup for a quarantine than our current place.
In the article it mentions something like 1600 cases. When I left, 3 weeks ago, I think the number was 40 and had been hovering around that for weeks. I know that's not the same growth as the us, but it's a much smaller country where the culture was already to wear masks and most had been since late January and had largely already been mostly isolating. Late Jan in Bangkok makes had sanitizer and temp scans although the sanitizer in stores and mall entrances didn't come to the north where I live until early March. My city also didn't have the first confirmed case until mid March, after I'd already left for my short visa trip.
Day 15 and counting of closed borders and strict movement restrictions.
ohgillian , do you have grocery delivery available?
(I've thought about the morality of just farming out my exposure to risk to someone else. But in theory, if the only people going to stores are healthy, and especially if they stay social distancing and the stores themselves are clean, like wiping down carts and things, the risk should be minimal. Most people are requesting their groceries just be left outside, even if usually an instacart person would help bring them in. Plus, for some people, delivery is their livelihood, so I figure I can just tip more than normal and help them pay their rent, you know?)
I've struggled with the same idea... I'm super high risk so I really shouldn't be going anywhere, especially a grocery store. I've been tipping all of my delivery drivers heavily the past few weeks as both an appreciation and hazard pay.

I've been running more and the weather here has been awesome, so people are out walking and biking. Awesome, but you can't get 6' away from people on the sidewalks and paved paths in my area. I've taken to running on the street instead. I think the people driving by me are annoyed, but I need to keep my distance!

Having 20 workers in the store preparing 200 pick up delivery orders is better than having 200 people in the store doing their own shopping. Obviously they should be properly protected and compensated, but I’m sure they would be glad if there were less shoppers there as well.

I agree. I wish they'd go to 100% pickup or delivery right now, for both the workers' and the general public's sakes.

The main problem we are seeing in my city is the delivery/pick up spots all full. You have to schedule them a week+ out, which is fine for those who can plan/wait, but not those that have more urgent needs.

I’ve tried several times to get a delivery slot and can’t. Apparently around here new slots open at something crazy like 2 am and fill within minutes (and I’m not capable of staying awake that late, especially since it still wouldn’t guarantee a spot, let alone often enough for my weekly needs). There would need to be a massive number of people hired to fill the demand.

It also wouldn't really be practical for rural areas, where people can live 30+ minutes from a grocery store.
Grocery store delivery is not ever going to be a thing where we live. We can't even get a pizza delivered to our house, let alone groceries.

yeah, same here. But I think if they closed the stores down to the public, that would free up a lot of employees to pick and deliver orders. Now, whether or not each store has the infrastructure to handle that kind of load, I doubt it. But it's a nice idea. LOL

So I’m home today waiting to see if I get called in. If I don’t get called by 10am (PST), I have the day off. Only 50 minutes to go! I worked Monday in clinic but no patient contact, just admin work. Then I’m back in patient contact tomorrow and on admin on Friday. I’m really pleased with how my company has responded to all of this.
We have horny robins attacking our downstairs windows. I hope this ends soon!
I’ve also taken up with playing Stardew Valley and the new Animal Crossing to escape reality.
I didn't drink from Jan 1 to mid-March, so yeah, I'm back to responsibly having drinks. By which I mean I'm trying to abide by my "normal" alcohol habits - mainly limit it to 1-2 drinks on the weekend days (Friday night counts!). I'm trying to treat weekdays and weekends like they still have meaning. (I am working from home - and working A LOT from home, so that's something.)

This was the case where I am (NYC) but now you just can't get a delivery window period. I check on Amazon Fresh several times a day and haven't seen any available for over a week. Plus fresh produce has been out of stock there for a while now. I'm trying to get what I can from the farmer's market because they are being very strict about who can touch what, but pickings are slip this early in the season.

I do feel ya there. I live in a medium-sized (about 15k people) town about a mile away from Walmart, Aldi and Schnucks (STL area grocery chain), and I forget I'm privileged that way. I grew up in the absolute boonies (and just fifteen miles away from where I currently live.)where there was no delivery, my mail box was two miles away from my house, no internet other than dial up (at the time, probably only super expensive/super unreliable satellite now) and shoddy cell service. You couldn't pay me enough to move back there. LOL
MH works in food delivery and his company is giving them all safety vests that say “please stay 6ft away” or something to that effect. It’s nearly impossible for him to stock shelves and maintain social distancing. Yesterday, he was kneeling on the ground and one customer reached right over his head to grab something off the shelf. The majority of cases in my country are people under 50. It’s scary.
