And after you’ve answered that question, how comfortable are you overturning the votes of the black party base to make that person our nominee?
I agree in theory that if the allegation seems to have legs, the party should urge him to step aside and put someone else there.
In practice though, I just don’t get how people here can be so damn certain that that throwing out the votes and telling Tom Perez to just figure it out is the only acceptable answer. I don’t know if this allegation has legs but I’m leaning towards no. Even if it is credible, it’s really fucking hard to know what to do at this point in time when the lives of millions, arguably billions, or people around the planet hinge on us getting Trump out of the WH.
This is where I’m at. I don’t know the right answer except that Trump has to go.
Will I vote in November knowing that there’s a lot of the line, especially SCOTUS? Yes. But I absolutely care that the dem nominee has been accused of sexual assault. I don’t understand not caring.

I care. And like I said I was always going to die mad about this election. But it won’t change what I do or how important I feel it is to do that and how dedicated I am to doing it.

For me, it’s not about not caring. It’s about listing, ranking, rating the things I care about. No one is the perfect candidate. This is the understatement of the year in this case (I’m not trying to minimize assault). It’s just that I sort assume every old dude in power has probably done some terrible shit to women which is a fucked up assumption but seems more true than not.
Biden could literally come in my house and call me a dusty ass mofo and I’d still vote for him. Trump is the actual worst. Biden would have to do some outrageously crazy shit for me to stay home. Im not trying to claim the moral high ground. I want the W. It sucks we have to choose but here we are.

When I saw I don't care, I mean on the scale of all the BS we're dealing with, I literally don't have the capacity to care right now. I would have been beside myself a few months ago. But I'm spending most of my energy not curling into a ball panicking that literally everything is falling down around us while still trying to hold down a job, finish a degree and do what needs to be done to keep my household afloat. So in that regard, I just don't have the energy to care about anything other than the fact that Joe is the nominee, and as HRC very correctly stated about herself, he is the only thing standing between us and the apocalypse. If it's not too late by the time he (gods willing) is sworn in.

I have a ton of respect for Ronan Farrow. I think that he’s proven that he will go to great lengths to get the truth out about powerful men abusing their power, including personal/professional sacrifice. I don’t know his exact politics but from what I can tell, Jon Lovett (and the rest of the crooked bros) would have preferred Warren or Sanders to Biden, if for no other reason than biden hasn’t given them an interview, but more likely because they lean more progressive.
Per the Salon article, Farrow was approached with the info from Tara and ultimately wouldn’t run with it. That doesn’t tell me that she is lying but it tells me that he didn’t think that he could help validate her story.
I know we are supposed to be open minded until all the facts come out but I really think there is a 50/50 chance that this story is true. Regardless of whether it is, I think there is a billion% chance that a conversation similar to this took place at some recent time:
Anonymous voice on phone: “Yes, I’ve got a woman who will go on record saying Biden assaulted her..” DJT Jr.: “I love it! Of course I’ll meet with you...”

It just says so much to me.
So Amanda Marcotte was on yesterday’s PSA. She said that men who sexually assault women rarely only assault one. I’m sure there are some cases where they only assault one, but the type of assault described in this report does not strike me as the kind of behavior that is a one-off. Anything is possible, and I truly don’t know what to believe about this. But I would definitely be more convinced if another accuser came forward. And I hate that I’m even thinking like this. Fuck, I hate all of this.
I’m also REALLY FUCKING TIRED of some Bernie supporters (including former staff) clearly using this as a political weapon with no evidence that they actually care about victims.

For me, it would need to be a credible accuser. And it would need to be picked up by a legitimate source, not just whispers from an opposing (former) campaign.
This was always the risk with Me Too, that it can be weaponized. At some point we will need to recon with this.
I don’t believe there are any options. This is what it is. A vote for the guy who will bring about the complete destruction of this nation’s pillars who was credibly accused of and admitted to multiple sexual assault or a vote for a guy who will hold up those pillars, and add some more, but who also maybe sexually assaulted a woman. You don’t get the luxury of a perfect choice this time. I’m sorry. To me it’s a non debate.
I really am hung up on the description of the accusers assault. She literally describes being grabbed by the pussy. You know how Trump accuses everyone else of the things he has done? It’s almost like he wrote the script himself. What a bizarro world we live in when assuming the sitting president concocted a sex scandal to smear a rival is actually the most plausible theory. And to be fair, it’s not that I am accusing the accuser of lying so much as I am accusing the president of threatening her or coercing her into it somehow.

Pretty much what else is there to say? I don't even know what bringing forth another nominee would look like right now in this time of chaos. It sucks.
1) As some have said before, the most influential election of our lives was probably 2016 and nothing is going to really undo that fuck up. This is all so depressing.
2) I don't expect there to be a real democratic convention this year. I don't know what will take it's place.

The DNC is exploring options for either a much scaled back convention or virtual.

I highly doubt we’re going to have anything close to a “normal” convention, even with the delayed August date. I feel SO BAD about it. So many people in this city have worked so hard to make it happen. Ugh.
I will tamp down whatever pain I may feel about this election if it means the end of R power in the White House and Senate. Period, the end. It is literally all that matters to me.
100% ditto this (and the rest of it, too). All of it.
I mean....what else do you want to talk about? How much it fucking sucks we have to choose between two skeevy old white dudes? Because it does suck. I'm mad these are my options. But, I'm gonna be honest, unless there's video of him doing this it's gonna be hard to convince the DNC to scrap him as the nom and install somebody else. And the implications of the 2020 election, not just Trump but SCOTUS, is going to override the distaste people might have for his actions.

Right, I mean, what is there to say? Do we stay home in protest of a candidate who may have sexually assaulted a woman, effectively electing a candidate who may have assaulted dozens of women and raped girls as young as 13? We had a bevvy of options a year ago. I wish that women didn't feel like they had to tamp things down until men rise to the highest possible level. But when Biden was Obama's wing man for 8 years, he was still the man who may have assaulted a woman; we just didn't know it. And he was a fine VP, and he would be a fine President.

I will say that the Bernie supporters have come in blazing hot today in a local change group saying that yes, we should not vote for Biden, and if that means another four years of Trump so be it.

My hatred for these privileged assholes runs almost as deep as my hatred for Trump supporters.
Remember when Al Franken resigned and everyone said. "Huh. Okay. That was bad. No where near as bad as things Trump has likely and credible done, if we're forced to rank levels of sexual assault. But he should have... not done it."
I was fine with him resigning because at the moment, in the first year of Me Too, I wasn't real picky about who got steamrolled after men sexually assaulting and harassing women for millennia. But I, and I think a lot of people, did consider with Al Franken that there WOULD come a time when we would maybe need a more nuanced approach and understanding of these issues.
Now is that time. The reckoning came a bit sooner than I thought. But yes, now is when we have to consider the greater good, how icky we might feel voting for someone with a credit sexual assault claim, and what the alternatives are, as well as if we can go back to canceling men for similar things after this.

YUP. It fucking sucks.
Yup.
I'll vote for Biden in November; no contest. But I will never stop being mad that women are considered unelectable if they're too assertive or not personable enough, but men can literally assault someone and still be electable.
I think I said it on the first page about myself but I think it’s fair to say that most women of a certain liberal lean and age were always going to die mad about the 2016 and 2020 elections. Accepting that has made this easier on me. I know I will never get over this time period in my life; it will always fill me with white hot rage.
Doesn’t change the reality of what I’ll do though.

Reviving the thread, as this was posted (yes, on Tw, sorry) by a trusted source, & was pretty enlightening. Is this election bad for women? Yes. But who is worse for women, especially women of color? The answer is pretty damn clear and no, I don’t think I’m a hypocrite by voting for the predator who is far less likely to harm women further, politically or otherwise, in order to keep the worse person from further damaging our country.
ETA: Even in my safe blue state, I wouldn’t risk voting third party. The stakes are too fucking great.

Seriously. Probably even more so. Trumpsters usually admit they're trash er deplorable . These fuckers like to pretend they're trying to help people. Fuck off Bros.
As far as Biden, obviously I care if he assaulted a woman. However I don't feel like we have any other real options at this point. Trump is not a choice, and a 3rd party vote is a vote for Trump IMO. So I'm going to vote for Biden, hope he picks a kick ass VP and hope she is the choice for 2024 and we hop off the icky old white dude train.
