I was just watching footage of Joe and Kamala volunteering in various locations yesterday for MLK Day and it was so soothing to see them spending time doing something selfless for other people. A leader doing something that doesn’t directly benefit himself and his ego? Unimaginable. I am beyond excited to get back to these kinds of mundane official engagements.
I'm ecstatic that they weren't harmed. Shows me the Secret Service can keep them safe.
Instagram post from Washington Post says McConnell says Trump and others provoked the insurrection.
Also, per Washington Post, both Georgia senate races have been certified.
He enabled Trump for four years to get everything he wanted. So fuck McConnell. He didn’t grow a conscience, he’s still doing what’s most politically expedient for himself and the GOP, and that’s getting Trump out of his hair forever.
Also, he warned Democrats to put partisanship aside. Lololololololol
as a fellow pennsylvanian i'd like to add a reminder to NEVER READ THE COMMENTS.
I inadvertently clicked on the comments of a Twitter post about her nomination, and the responses were overwhelmingly “good for her!” And yes, there were a few negative comments but *every single one* said something along the lines of “I don’t like how she handled the COVID crisis” or “she could have done a better job.” Every single one was job performance-based.
Huh. That is, uh, not what I've seen. Like at all.
Transphobia is alive and well and it is vicious. I don't think that needs to be downplayed.

I wasn’t trying to downplay it, but I can see that that’s what I did. I apologize. I was trying to mention a somewhat bright spot.

I appreciate that. It's valid if the tweets you saw didn't have those sorts of comments but I read about 4 dozen threads on twitter and facebook this morning that made me cry with the number of awful comments. Transphobia is personal to my family and this is just day 1 of Dr. Levine being subject to it at a national scale and it's going to be an ongoing dynamic we should all be attentive to.
Forehead smack. Clearly was not thinking it through.
The garden is straight crazy, though. Wtf. I'm here for honoring contributions of US citizens to society, but what in the tacky-ass, haphazard hell is THAT idea?

There will be a live inauguration event, hosted in part by Dr. Biden, designed specifically for students and families here tomorrow at 10 AM ET. ETA: It looks like it'll contain a message from Dr. Biden, not partially hosting. Either way, if it's something she's involved in, I'm sure it'll be great.

This is not the case at all in rural Central PA The comments on all of our news station FB posts are horrifying. They make me so angry, I can't click on them anymore.
Does anyone here have any idea what the actual punishment will be for the criminals that entered the Capitol and did all kinds of destruction? Are we talking prison time or slaps on the wrist with only probation?
This has been weighing heavy on my mind. I really want to know how severely those fuckers will be punished.
I was shocked and disappointed to see some of them. One I saw yesterday was for entering capitol unauthorized with lethal weapon - max of 11.5 mos 😱😱😱
But aren’t most of them facing multiple charges?
I’m assuming it’ll be like shopping at Target. Everything’s “Ooo, what a good price!” Until you get to register and somehow spend 9x as much as you went in planning to spend.
But I know next to nothing about sentencing and such, so I could be totally wrong here.
I don't know if we have talked about this junk but it is like throwing gas on a flaming fire. It's just infuriating that a report like this was released by our own government.
I am disgusted that federal money was spent on this. I'd say that Stephen Miller's name is all over it, but that's discounting all of the other racists that believe this.
It sounds like the shitty op-eds he wrote when he was in college. Just as disgusting 13 years later.

I’m sorry you were forced to see that, and I’m sorry for contributing to that hurt.
Twelve U.S. Army National Guard members have been removed from the presidential inauguration security mission after they were found to have ties with right-wing militia groups or posted extremist views online, according to two U.S. officials. There was no threat to President-elect Joe Biden, they said.
The officials, a senior intelligence official and an Army official briefed on the matter, did not say which fringe group the Guard members belonged to or what unit they served in. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
I naively thought that living in suburbia meant that dangerous people would be far away, but was reminded that it’s not necessarily true and am considering keeping my kids home or picking them up early tomorrow. My h and currently disagree about this.
