I hope Harry and William work out their shit. I do think what Harry said about him being trapped is true. William is the dutiful son and is probably jealous Harry was able to walk away completely, in the manner he did.
I also think it’s important to take Harry’s comments about how the royals fear the press and Meghan’s comments about how people inside told her she couldn’t respond to things into consideration when it comes to how Will & Kate have responded. Idk I just feel sorry for both Will & Harry. Losing their mom and not having any real shot at a normal life or upbringing sucks for them. Charles and Camilla can fuck right off, but I have a soft spot for Will & Harry.

I vote William was part of the no title and no protection for Archie discussion. I have read over the years that some of those instances from Harry's younger years when he was caught by the press in a bad light that William was actually right there with Harry, but was clued in or saved by someone in time so it never appeared he was involved and that he just left Harry there to take the heat. Not sure if he was in Vegas during Harry's naked at a party incident, but it was situations similar to that in which William escaped. Plus, have you ever listened to him in interviews? He comes across douchey.

He is a grown ass adult now. It’s unfortunate, sure, but he should take responsibility for his role in all of this.
Also, I give all the side eyes to Charles. ALL OF THEM.
Wait, I lied. I can throw a few at the rest of the Royals too. But Chaz is definitely the pusher of bullshit. And the Queen didn't stop it. And William didn't help. And Phillip is a crypt keeper racist. So.
I know their road has been absolutely awful but I have to think that it is such a breath of fresh air for Harry to have what feels like a normal life for the first time. I flash back to the pictures of Diana taking him and William to Disneyland and trying to give them normal experiences and feel so happy for him that he can give his family what Diana so wanted for him as a child.
My heart just breaks for Harry. The PTSD of losing your mother because the paparazzi hounded her and then that PTSD triggering so much worrying about “history repeating itself” is so sad.
I feel for them in so many ways. Ultimately though, they seem to have found a path that allows them to live life on their terms. There’s a lot to admire there, despite everything they’ve had to overcome to get to this point.
I sincerely hope they can move forward in a way that allows them to live their lives without regret or longing for what could have been.
I feel like what Harry was saying at one point was that the monarchy fears the press, because if they anger the press too much, the press could turn public opinion enough that everyone could remember that the monarchy is an obsolete and unnecessary figurehead that they pay taxes to support.
I follow UK Twitter and I think it's fair to say that the UK left definitely finds the monarchy obsolete already. And much like here, in contrast to the left, the right wants to keep tradition, ie bigotry etc. Piers Morgan is the poster child for outrage. So the left and the right are (perpetually) at odds. Sound familiar?
Anybody who has read a fairy tale or watched a princess movie knows you need to curtsy to the Queen.
Not always. I met the Queen and was specifically told not to curtsey.
ETA: re: all of the racism, the Queen absolutely could and SHOULD have a put a stop to it, but she didn’t. And she could have publicly spoken out about Andrew’s pedophilia, but she didn’t. There’s no excuse, no matter how “nice” she is to H&M, for the way she allowed the family and the press to treat them. I wouldn’t be the tiniest bit surprised if she and Charles discussed Archie’s skin tone in private so it looked like it was Charles’ concern (like she planted the thought in his brain).
How did Harry think he would get to keep his royal patronage’s and honorary royal military titles if he was leaving the royal family ?!
They explained it was not the first time someone became a second tier royal and continued to have titles and responsibilities.
They didn't want to leave, they wanted to go down a level and work more part time like some other Royals (I assume she meant like Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie who seem to have some privacy, though they have stepped up some with H and M gone). They weren't recreating the wheel, roles like the ones they wanted existed.

And Megan’s suicidality sounded quite serious. At one point she said she went to an event because she didn’t feel safe to be alone, and cried whenever the lights went down on the show.
I can see why he gave it all up, rather than let the paparazzi kill another family member.
Also, maybe she couldn’t go to a hospital like a regular person, but I don’t understand why they couldn’t get a team of therapists and a psychiatrist to come to her and help her.
My heart broke for her over this. Since there seem to be eyes and ears everywhere always willing to throw tidbits to the press, the family probably thought that getting her care for her mental health meant that the word would get out somehow and GOD FORBID. Which is gross.
Oprah just said Harry confirmed to her that the discussion about the baby’s skin color was not with the queen or Prince Philip. No that it clears them of anything, but now I’m really thinking it was Charles.
Isn't one of Kate and William's big causes mental health? A cause that would have been approved by "the firm." How hypocritical. Mental health matters, as long as you aren't Megan Markle. Megan can suffer in silence.
"Too often, people feel afraid to admit that they are struggling with their mental health. This fear of prejudice and judgement stops people from getting help and can destroy families and end lives. Heads Together wants to help people feel much more comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing and have the practical tools to support their friends and family."

Is this because you were in uniform? I have no reason to think this, but it wouldn't surprise me if protocol was different because it wasn't a social visit.

I thought I read somewhere once that Americans don't have to curtsy to the Queen because she's not our sovereign, but I don't know if I'm remembering correctly or not.

Plus she specifically explained that although she knows that’s how they do things formally (on screen and for big events) she thought it would be different when it was grandma swinging by for an unscheduled lunch with her grandkids.
I recorded it and I'm watching now. Her talking about going to that event because she was afraid to be alone made me actually cry a little and I don't cry easily.
I'm amazed at how...composed? I can't think of exactly the right word I want to use, but like. She doesn't know what Oprah is going to ask and these are really inflammatory subjects and she's so careful about the words she uses, but still gets her point across without sounding petty or vindictive even though she'd have every right to. Poised, maybe? It's impressive. I feel like I'd be alternately crying or yelling incoherently.

They never proposed leaving. They didn't want to leave.
There are various designations in the royal family.
1) "Full time" working royals. There are actually very few of these. The Queen, Philip before he "retired" a few years ago, Charles, Camilla, Anne, Andrew (well, not really anymore), William, Kate, Edward and Sophie, Princess Alexandra of Kent, The Duke and Duchess of Kent, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and previously, Harry and Meghan. These are people who represent the sovereign at various events and functions. Edward and Sophie go to the foreign weddings on behalf of the Queen, for example, and also do a lot of work with the Duke of Edinburgh's charities/have pretty much taken over for Philip. They all have patronages to specific charities, usually ones that match up to their interests - art, theater, mental health, poverty, cancer, AIDS, refugees, children, veterans, animals, etc. They get Grace and Favor residences (Kensington palace or a few other royal residences), their travel and "business expenses" are paid by various government departments, but their living expenses and other expenses are paid for by the Duchy of Lancaster. The Queen will often give them country homes too, but that's a personal gift. On average, they "work" about 90 days a year, but the main royals have much more engagements than that. It came out a few years ago that Wills and Kate had pretty light schedules, so they were accused of being lazy, but they were still working maybe half the time.
It sounds like Harry and Meghan wanted a status that was more like the Queen's cousins (the Kents, etc) where they maybe were representing the Queen officially some of the time, but with a lot less pressure. Or else the following:
2) Non-working members of the royal family. These are people like Beatrice and Eugenie or the Queen's niece and nephew. They are invited to royal weddings and the big events, like Trooping the Colour, and private family events, like Christmas at Sandringham. They often have charities they support with patronage, but it's not officially on behalf of the Queen, it's just their own thing. They are often expected to have their own careers - Eugenie works in art curation, I believe, and Beatrice has a corporate job. Both of their spouses also have outside paid employment. I believe they both have housing provided by the Queen personally, but not in connection to a job or duties on her behalf, just because she's their grandmother. Non-working royals don't have to follow the same strict codes about, like, not wearing nail polish or not having social media accounts. They don't get paid by the sovereign grant (the amount of money set aside by Parliament that is a portion of the Crown Estate income that's donated to the UK government - the royals get about 15% of that back in order to perform their functions, pay for security, etc. The Duchy of Cornwall (Charles) also has it's own income.)
I think Harry and Meghan were hoping to either move to the latter position or have some kind of hybrid position. They wanted to refuse the sovereign grant money, which would have let them have more freedom in how they created income for themselves and managed their own brand, though they were also interested in remaining patrons of the charities they felt passionately about and using their platform for good.
Much of what was said is horrifying and the royal family has a lot of explaining to do.
However, the claim that Archie was denied being called a prince is not true, he was never entitled to it. Under the Letters Patent issued by George V, only grandchildren of the sovereign are entitled to Prince/Princess title. A special exception was made for the Cambridge kids only because they are in the direct line of succession, which Archie is not. That may have meant he’s not entitled to state paid security but I 100% believe that Charles would have paid for it from his own funds, the same way Beatrice and Eugenie’s father pays for theirs.
