Also, the idea that the BRF is somehow beholden to protocol or letters of patent is BS. They change things whenever it suits them. In this case, what suited them was worrying about how dark the great-grandchild of the Queen might be and preventing a suicidal pregnant woman from getting mental health services.

Well I was gone a few hours and see that I got piled on! Everything that happened to them, especially Meghan, is fucked up. I don’t want to minimize that at all and I’m sorry if I left that impression! No doubt about what they have gone thru is awful and I would have left too. I think Harry didn’t adequately prepare her for this like he kinda expected her to go with the flow and it would be a fairytale. I think their plan was to always leave and do their own thing - businesses, charitable work etc but the horrible treatment she got just sped that up. They probably loved her at first and then realized she has a brain of her own and wasn’t going to do whatever they said so they turned on her.
My point was more about the cost of all this- not just them but all the money that goes royals. It’s a huge waste of resources whether they are in the UK, living in Canada, etc and most Brits can’t stand the antiquated support of them. His father absolutely should help them with security wherever they live with his own money but it doesn’t sound like that will ever happen.
Why are you dismissing their experiences with racism?
One thing I’ve been thinking about is Kate making Meghan cry the week of her wedding. Kate was like a month out from giving birth to Louis the week of Meghan & Harry’s wedding. I don’t think weddings generally bring out the best in people under normal circumstances.
Do we think that if Will or Kate had made those awful skin tone comments, Meghan would have made sure to mention Kate apologized to her and brought her flowers and she wouldn’t spill the actual details about the fight? Because I would be in burn it down mode and sharing all of the details, had it been me.
I thought H&M did a really great job in the interview and I’m sorry for what they’ve been through. They seem much better off where they are now. I have so many more questions though. 😂
Yes the crying over flower girl dresses, I don't see as a big deal. I'm sure every bride has cried during the week of the wedding over some conflict with family. Its stressful AF.
The part that was WTF is how the story came out 6 months later making her the bad guy in this interaction and nobody would correct it publicly. "They were willing to lie to protect some members of the family, but not willing to tell the truth to protect me." I think thats the meat of this situation.
And her half sister was being a major asshole. It is an emotional week. I was a mess the week before my wedding.
I wish I could be as poised as Meghan. And I wish things had gone differently for M&H as a couple - their love just seems so genuine and grounded.
That said, the only thing in that interview that was 100% a surprise to me was the revelation that TYLER PERRY made their safety and new life possible. Tyler Perry is the superhero in this story that I never knew I needed.
They probably loved her at first and then realized she has a brain of her own and wasn’t going to do whatever they said so they turned on her.
It was absolutely racism. Stop saying otherwise. She even said in the interview last night that she was willing to put the work in to be a working royal. It was racism. Period.

Because she's busy whining about "getting piled on." MAJOR eye roll here.
There are so many shameful details, but the Tyler Perry bit is pretty fucking shameful.
This whole institution decided to pull security from the couple. Regardless of reasons, they decided they couldn't be bothered to cover it. Even with personal money and let's be clear there is a lot of that. So some random media mogul in the US did it? I mean I am sure TP is a nice guy. But that is completely unacceptable. Their decision put them at risk just to make a point? to throw a tantrum?
So I finally had a chance to talk to my mom about the interview and she was all "ELIZABETH WAS NEVER TO BE QUEEN!!!" Basically, the woman should be lucky that she's where she is and take her humble pie and sit the fuck down.
My mom remembers more about the Diana years as well and said she knew Megan was going to have it 10x worse because of her race.

And Piers Morgan had to go on a rant. I love that the Weatherman on that show called him out and PM walked off, because everything the Weatherman said was spot on. Piers met with Megan once years ago and never contacted him again after. She is allowed to do that. She probably sensed his skeezy vibe and wanted nothing to do with him.

Link? I'd suffer through watching him just to see him get told off. I despise him so much I don't even know what channel he's on. I'm guessing fox.

My mom and I had this same discussion!
If anyone out there doesn't know much about Diana, there's a FANTASTIC 4-episode podcast about her life. It's part of "You're Wrong About" and I just listened to it last week to actually understand a bit more about the recent history of that royal family. It was a great listen, although now understanding the history of Chuck and the family, it makes the treatment of MM even less surprising (and more infuriating, if I'm honest.)
May I ask maybe a dumb question, but can someone explain the security situation to me. Does each child have their own security person (for example, Will and Kate have one for each of their children, plus one for each of them, so 5 security people?) I guess I was being too simple and thinking a baby would be covered when they're with their parents by their parents security and by "palace" (I'm making that up) security when their parents aren't there. I'm just asking about the point when Meghan was pregnant and they were already saying the baby wouldn't have security, it seems crazy to me that no one would feel he needed protection.
I was chatting with my parents about it last night and we're all thinking Harry needed to do more to help try to prepare Meghan, he may not have understood the race implications well enough but he surely understood the press and family dynamics even without that additional element. By that I mean even for example my own extended family, I can guess with a good deal of certainty what will really eventually go down in certain situations even if someone is appearing to act otherwise and prep for that as needed.

I'm talking out of my ass here but there are times, sometimes Archie is with a sitter/ child care/ Doria so Harry's security with with with him. Previously while they were on their Australian tour they would have events that would take them away for hours or possibly overnight. Based on my historical reference of The Crown, Diana/ Charles were away from William for weeks during their Australian tour. Not to mention, had they remained in England boarding school would have been expected.
basilosaurus that clip is what I was referring to in your link. Very well said Sir.
Yes, I noticed that. But I despite seeing him and hearing his voice, so I thought the transcript was better for my sanity
Gotcha. It is 99% Alex Beresford speaking. Piers only says something as he stands to leave and sulks off. They only pan the camera to him a couple times as he bites his lip to keep quiet.

I am intrigued by the security for the kids, Particularly older kids. What does security for George do when he is in school? Stand outside of the classroom? Same for Secret service for the Obama girls?

What does your mom mean by this? That she technically wasn’t in the line of succession because Edward abdicated? He was 42 when he became king and had no children, so it’s likely she would have become Queen regardless. Her father did not want to be king, and her family blames his death on the stress it caused, so I doubt it’s something she sees as a benefit, but a duty instead.

Yes, correct. How she wasn't in line originally.
As for Edward never having children, I can't comment as you never know, but obviously that's not what happened in the end.
Piers Morgan is leaving Good Morning Britain after ITV received 40,000 complaints.
Well well actions have consequences fuck right off good riddance.
I thought it was interesting since he regularly held his co-workers hostage having to listen to his drivel, he couldn't handle the heat when it was turned on him. What a moron.

Yep as always, bullies can dish it out but they can't take it.

David (Edward VIII) had mumps as a teenager which left him sterile (common side effect with teen boys apparently). George V (the Queen's grandfather) even made a comment about Elizabeth when she was a child saying he hoped nothing would get between her and the throne. So she kind of was always expected to succeed eventually.
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
