I expect to have a reaction to my second dose of moderna (not sure I've heard of anyone getting moderna and not having a reaction...) but either way I'm using it as an excuse to nap all day.
My reaction to the 2nd Moderna was less than the 1st. Just a sore arm.
I'm now surrounded by *4 other states* in which I am eligible to get the vaccine. But no word or even hint on the horizon of my state updating/speeding up its eligibility guidelines.
Being angry about this is really taking toll on my mental health.
How far are you from the state line? I went to a federal site (Walmart) in a neighboring state for mine

My wife got their 2nd Moderna shot on Friday and felt surprisingly fine afterwards, minus a sore arm.
I'm a bit over 24 hours since my first shot of Pfizer. I feel sluggish and my arm is sore. I feel flushed and feverish but don't have a fever. My arm was sore enough that I had trouble sleeping last night. (My other shoulder is chronically painful, fwiw.) I turned on my electric blanket and put that on my shoulder and it helped a lot. It's on a timer and I woke up soon after it had turned off. It's an anecdote and all but if it helps someone, I thought I'd share.

I'm only like 40 minutes from one of the states, but it has a residency requirement, as do two of the others.
One does not have a residency requirement, I believe, and it's a 2.5 hour drive one way.
ETA: just read in the local paper that our governor is going to be announcing an updated schedule "later this week." So I guess there's something to look forward to.
The Wal-Mart I went to told me they are a federal site and therefore can't have a residency requirement.
I'm seeing mostly Moderna here. Who has had Pfizer? Just curious what your second shot experience was. I'm scheduled for my second during a busy week at work and getting nervous
My parents, sister, and spouse all had Pfizer. None had any more than slight tiredness and body aches the next day. All did go to work/could have gone to work (parents are retired).

I got Pfizer too, and was told not to use heat. I didn't think to ask why, but the woman told me to use cold packs if it hurt. I didn't though...I hate cold packs, and normally use heat for everything, which is probably the only reason that I remembered that.
I am five days out. I had what I assume is an allergic reaction (minor numb feeling of lower face), and it hasn't gone away yet. It is slight enough that I forget about it, but just weird enough that I am aware of my lips in a way that reminds me that it isn't normal.

I'm not sure if this is free for non-subscribers but if you check today's covid case tracker on NYT's site, look at all the charts for every state. Almost every northeast state (plus others) shows the case line curling back up. Ugh.

That's not what the locations I've called have told me
For example, Hy-Vee is participating in the federal program, but all of their locations say it's for state residents only: www.hy-vee.com/my-pharmacy/covid-vaccine
Interesting. Do you have any Wal-marts in that state closest to you? If so, maybe try calling and see what they have to say.

I had the Pfizer shot on Sunday afternoon- slept like the dead that night and had some muscle soreness, especially in my lower back. Everything went away by Monday evening. Feeling great today!
Every person in my family has had Pfizer, except my H with the J&J. We've all had similar reactions.

Well.. damn. They did not tell me that and I already did it so I hope I didn't fuck up too badly.

I got my second dose of Pfizer on Sunday at 2. Monday morning I was foggy and the symptoms increased from there. By 2 pm Monday I had chills, a high temp (99.9), total exhaustion, and the worst headache I ever had. I feel much better today but still have a little bit of residual headache (I call it a migraine hangover).

I got my 2nd Pfizer dose on Sunday. I was fine all that day, but woke up in the middle night feeling achy. On Monday I was exhausted and achy until about 7pm when I magically felt fine. I was too lazy to take my temp so I'm not sure if I had a mild fever or not.
So many people in MN are jumping ahead because pharmacies aren't checking eligibility, it is just based on you verifying you have an underlying issue or are an eligible work status.
This is happening here also with two large hospital sites and also a retail pharmacy. You just have to “attest” you qualify by checking a box. People seem to give no craps they are cutting the line. I don’t think it’s right but it feels sucky getting left behind:
Yep. Especially because we have been doing everything right for the past year! These arseholes out living their best life/anti mask people are the ones getting the shots. 🤬
I just can't do it. But I am still conflicted. If I get sick and die ( doubtful and a wee over dramatic), but will my headstone read "she was waiting to become eligible" ?

So my mom is slowly but surely getting back to living her best life post-vaccine lol. She actually got vaccinated before me, but then she also takes care of my 103 year old grandma sometimes and she got her vaccine later.
So anyway, I think I've mentioned but before covid my mom had a super packed social schedule, like at least 2 social things a day lol. Too exhausting for me! Obviously she put all that on hold and was obviously extra careful because of my grandma, was only doing early morning once a week grocery runs during senior hours, no other outings.
Anyway, all of her friends are also now vaccinated. So she went to a friends for breakfast last week, she restarted her weekly poker group, she's been going to her neighbors dog agility class with her the past couple of weeks and she just texted me that her bff is over tonight hanging out for drinks and snacks. Here I am curled up in my pajamas laying down. I know the pandemic has been rough for many, but I've definitely been feeling bad for the loneliness among the over 60 crowd that lives alone like my mom. Hang in there everyone!
My fellow gray state people, I sympathize with you. This is some BS.
I don't think it's BS. I'm wondering what the vaccination rates are for the states that are opening up eligibility all the way. Because the supply isn't great enough for states to be opening if a large amount of people are choosing to vaccinate.

I’m in a grey state. We’re a very populous state (NJ). Over 20% of our population has had at least one dose, and over 10% is fully vaccinated. But we have 8+ million people, it’s going to take time. Our governor keeps expanding when supply allows, but it’s still nearly impossible to get an appointment as someone who qualifies, a free for all wouldn’t help. They’re also focusing on partnerships with churches and community centers in areas with traditionally marginalized populations, so I’m okay with other people needing to wait a little longer to ensure it gets to those who most need it.

Agreed. I’m in Texas. Given the choice, I’d rather wait a little longer for the vaccine but live somewhere where citizens and the state/local government believe in science and social responsibility. It’s the *literal* wild Wild West over here, and not in a fun Will Smith way.

Totally an anecdote, but my sister in MS is fully vaccinated and very few coworkers and friends she has there want the vaccine. She lives about an hour east of Jackson and that’s where work and her social circle are, so other parts of the state may have more willing people. But then I found this and basically they opened up to all adults precisely because demand was slowing down.

Yep. And of course it's also dependent on how the state prioritizes the vaccine. Georgia is opening it up on Thursday and they have vaccinated 11% of the population. Washington isn't opening it up until May 1, yet we've vaccinated almost 15%. I would LOVE to be eligible now (I have one comorbidity but our state requires 2), but understand there are still a fairly large number of people here who are more vulnerable than I am who should take precedence. And I'm also happy that the situation here likely means we have a higher vaccine acceptance rate which will of course means better herd immunity.

Yep, my 81 year old MIL who is in NJ and STILL works as a real estate agent has not been able to get her first vaccine. Selfishly I would be pissed if they opened up the state to everyone before she (and others like her) has been able to get it.
I'm a fellow gray stater (NY). I would be fine with keeping it locked down if the appointments were all being filled, but they're not, at least not upstate.
I volunteered to help staff vaccination clinics in my county, and was assigned to one on Thursday. As of now, there are still 648 appointment times available for Thurs. AM for a first dose for any eligible NYer. 2nd doses happen in the afternoon. Earlier this evening there were 763 morning appointments, so they're going, but not quickly.
Last week, H became eligible on Wed. I got him a next day appointment for Thurs. at the nearest, most convenient state site to us (within our county).
I am hoping to get a leftover dose on Thursday, but in case I don't, I signed up tonight for a backup appointment on Fri. at a state site that I'll cancel if I get one Thurs. Both paid and unpaid vaccination staff are an eligible group, so I now qualify.
It really feels like there's enough slack in demand relative to supply to open it up more. Just today the age dropped from 60 to 50, but it feels like we could go a little further, if not all the way.

Well, in NY I am sure Cuomo is trying to do something to make himself a hero. Being non-committal or even pessimistic now regarding supply and then suddenly VACCINES FOR ALL TOMORROW, PLEASE LOVE ME AGAIN!!!!

Not just singling you out here. I think (as a grey state person) the issue is people here are realizing pharmacy's aren't verifying eligibility so they are jumping ahead.
Yes, to someone else's point, we still have a mask mandate and other precautions in place. But it feels like everyone is heading to the wild Wild West (TX/FL) for spring break and god knows what they are bringing back here!
I know that MN is doing a good job at getting shots in the arms. Just hard to see other states opening up and people lying about eligibility.
I'm going to push back on the "lying about eligibility" myth we're bandying about. Because it sounds an awful lot like, "There's a lot of people gaming the federal assistance programs". Honestly, has it been verified that people are line jumping, or is it a bunch of, "I know someone whose sister's husband's brother saw there was an appointment and took it. He doesn't have anything [that the poster knows of] wrong with them!"
I’m not sure what the point of opening up vaccination eligibility is in states where there aren’t enough vaccines. Like I was super excited to hear my state is opening up eligibility (on 4/22 everyone will be eligible) however we don’t have enough supply to meet the demand and even people in the current eligibility groups can’t find appointments. Doesn’t seem to be an appointment available in the entire state right now.
