The MD Board of Ed voted in favor of a mask mandate yesterday for all schools. I’m so relieved, because my county did not previously have a mask mandate.
I’m a teacher (open house 9/1 and students start 9/7) and I currently have all of the furniture from 2 years ago and all the furniture we used for spacing last year in my classroom. And nobody knows yet what protocols we will have in place. So work is already stressful and it hasn’t technically started yet! Plus the mask nonsense. My superintendent doesn’t want to be the “bad guy” so he is waiting for our new governor (NY) to make the plans. It’s ridiculous. We are one of the last school districts in the area to put out a plan.
We are getting new windows today! I am super excited, which seems really adult and boring of me lol. But they have been so hard to use the whole time we've lived here, so I am thrilled that we are going to be able to open the windows like normal people again.
We actually did not have windows that we could open when we lived in the city, either, so it's been over 3 years since we've had a normal window situation. It's too hot right now to have them open anyway, but it will be so nice in a few weeks when the weather is mild! I am also hoping they do a better job of keeping humidity out.
I'm working from home today so I can oversee the install (and keep the cat from having a meltdown and running somewhere he shouldn't) and it's soooo nice. I've been 100% in the office for the last 2 months and I've really missed being able to take it slow in the morning and do stuff like throw in a load of laundry. I really need to put in a request to WFH once a week going forward.
I got the new apple spice macchiato from Starbucks this morning. It is NASTY! The syrup is weirdly bitter/sour and very chemically tasting. I'm super bummed.
The dogs decided they needed to go out last night at 2am and 4am. H didn't wake up either time, so it was on me. I'm not sure I actually fell back asleep after the 4am outing. Which is why I'm extra grumpy that the coffee is gross!
This is the first weekend in quite some time that we have absolutely no plans. H and DS were supposed to go camping with H's friend and his son, but that got cancelled. While I was really looking forward to having no plans AND the house to myself, I am looking forward to some downtime with the boys. I'm getting an Instacart and Target pickup order together now, so I don't have to worry about grocery shopping this weekend. Labor Day weekend thru mid October we have something every weekend, so this will be a nice chill weekend.
I slept so awful last night. I got a coffee on my way to pick DS up from school. I need something to get me through the torture that is the pickup line, (especially the first couple weeks of school when it's pure chaos) and I think cocktails while driving is frowned upon. Coffee was obviously a bad idea because I was tossing and turning all night. I usually avoid caffeine after 2pm and now I know why. Looking forward to takeout, a glass of wine or 2, finishing my book and an early bedtime tonight.

This is good to know! I was super intrigued when I saw it on the menu. I’ll stick with my basic PSL.
Three days out from my first time getting botox and I have only one wrinkle on my forehead that still needs to relax. I love the results. Although my forehead does feel a bit stiff right now. I am sure that will wear off with time. Or I will just get used to the sensation.
I have taken approximately 45 pictures of my mug these past couple days lol.

I really want to find a botox place in my new city, but I should also stop spending money. So I keep putting it off, but hopefully soon!
My H got here yesterday and I don't think he's stopped talking yet, LOL. Like, he got up in the middle of the night and was talking to himself (b/c I was not waking up for the conversation he wanted to have about the lack of clocks). I'm glad he's excited to be here, but oh man, I'm a little bit missing the quiet of the last month, haha.
This first week of school for the kids has kicked my butt, even with an early bedtime the mornings are hard. This used to be our norm, but the last year and a half has spoiled us with the extra hour and a half in the mornings. We are definitely ordering pizza and watching terrible TV tonight.

oh, bummer! Thanks for sharing, though. I saw that when I was at Starbucks yesterday and considered trying it. I guess I will skip!

I can see that. I don't see apple spice + coffee flavors going together in the same way pumpkin spice + coffee would. Because of the slight sourness you mentioned. I do love the caramel apple spice they have, although it's way too sweet with the full amount of pumps so I ask for less. But that doesn't have caffeine lol.

that's too bad! I also got one yesterday (with sweet cold foam added- my fav!) and thought it was delicious. I normally hate sweet syrups and drink either simple hot cappuccino or iced espresso with milk.

everyone I know and interact with at work is off today (last chance to use our Summer Fridays) and I keep forgetting that I actually have to work today. Motivation is hard!
The underdesk treadmill we "borrowed" stopped working It got jerky and then just stopped. The motor runs, but the belt won't move so I think something disconnected. H is going to try to fix it this weekend. I miss my walking.

I looove the caramel apple spice, but have to get a small one for sure! It's a great late afternoon drink.

A local coffee shop does an apple + coffee drink and its super good. But I think they use real apple cider instead fake flavoring, and the cider is strong enough to kind of cover up the coffee taste. I was hoping this would be similar - oh well!
I'm waiting for confirmation from the tourist farm that our reservation is good. If not, I have another I'm going to book. I'd like to get this settled.

DS1 had a bit of a runny nose yesterday so I kept him home from school and scheduled a Covid test for the afternoon at Walgreens. I got there and it was a big mess, their system was down, they couldn't pull his paperwork, etc. They had me circle the line twice and still nothing. After 30 minutes of this, I was really pushing that I wanted it done then (I had left work early to do it and did not want to have to return today) and the PHARMACIST (not a tech or other employee) suggested "why don't you go out to dinner and come back and see if it's up?" TWICE. I said I don't want to just hang around here waiting for there system and she said AGAIN "There are lots of places to eat around here if you want to get dinner and come back." So yes, we have pharmacists sending people who are there for Covid tests due to symptons out to dinner in the local area. FFS.
The good news is after a second trip to the pharmacy last night we were able to get the test and it's negative.
I stumbled across a page on Facebook called Soft White Underbelly, and I’ve watched hours of videos in the last 3 days. It’s mostly interviews with homeless people, drug addicts, and prostitutes. It’s so heartbreaking, but I can’t stop watching.
We have a friend (she was in wedding party) who actually believes the COVID vaccine is the mark of the beast. Her concern about the vaccine is based on Revelations Chapter 13.

I can't.
Ask her why she didn't get raptured. The mark of the beast happens after the rapture, right?

I’ve reached a new low. I had to reschedule my hair appointment when I had Covid and the soonest my stylist had was yesterday. I left work for my appointment and came back after since my PTO is so low (damn Covid).

But the governor did order a mask and vaccine mandate.

I think something is living in our bedroom walls. I heard weird sounds 2 days in a row (during the day) and this morning I noticed some dust/dirt on the baseboard in that area. I hope it’s something easy to deal with. Ugh.

My 12 y.o. is purposefully trying to get dress coded today (along with several of their friends apparently). I tried to have a talk with them about the amount of "activism capital" one has, and is this where they want to use it and was accused of being unsupportive and trying to talk them out of it. Really I just wanted to make sure this is the hill they wanted to die on and to think about the cost to them and their future 'battles' - the dress codes are stupid and sexist.

It's the 2nd week of school.
What are they protesting? The dress code itself? If so, I fully support.
