Texas Gov. Greg Abbott weighed in on a burning question related to the state’s recently passed bill banning abortions after six weeks: what about victims of rape?
During a Tuesday press conference, Abbott said the law gives rape victims up to six weeks to get abortion and thus “does not do that [force victims to have their assaulter’s child].”
“Let’s be clear: rape is a crime,” Abbott said. “And Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets.”
The law doesn’t give anyone 6 weeks to do anything! I know that you know this, but at best, people have two weeks to discover they are pregnant and schedule an abortion. So many are picturing people being able to mull over the decision for over a month and it’s just not true. Add in a horrific trauma such as rape…Gawd, fuck Abbott.
I absolutely agree with you. Women are NOT PREGNANT IN ANY WAY for the first 2 weeks of the 6 week cut-off. It is six weeks since your last period. Your last period, people. It’s a medical short-hand for diagnosing not having a period. And me, like millions of women who wanted to get pregnant and diligently tracked my shit and tested as soon as I had a late period, did NOT test positive at 6 weeks. Fuckers.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) signed an executive order on Tuesday that bans the prescription of abortion pills through telemedicine — a move that comes days after she proposed tightening abortion restrictions in her state following the Supreme Court’s decision allowing Texas’ ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy to stand
Right, Texas has just been choosing not to eliminate rape up until now.
I live in Korea, where the violent crime rate is very very low…until you really look at how crimes are classified. Rape is pretty much non-existent here. Because it’s such a mysoginistic society that men are entitled to sex with their wives or girlfriends, so that’s not a crime. And if a woman is at fault for dressing provocatively, then that’s not a crime either. Also, there is very little murder here. But there are a lot of ‘accidental” deaths. Being drunk is a perfectly fine legal defense. So if a man rapes and murders a woman, he just claims she led him on and he was drunk. So there you have it, no crime was committed. I have a feeling Texas will very shortly become the safest state in the nation where no violent crimes against women occur, similar to Korea. No need to have a rape exclusion when you can make most rapes disappear with words.

Yep. My cycles are anywhere from 15- 60 days. That's my normal. I wouldn't even begin to question until about 70 days, long after fucking TX rules.
I'm sorry you went through that. I've tried to avoid, and so I know my cycles for different reasons, but we still know them!
We fucking know our bodies, and we trust our doctors to help us with them. And dumbass politicians have not a single place in here.
Yes. NAL, but Joyce Vance said that the basis of the suit is one that they used when some southern states were basically creating their own immigration policy. If the federal government has had a heavy hand in the legality of certain things, it kind of relates to judicial precedent, meaning states can't just create their own patchwork of disparate laws.
I haven't ever attempted to get birth control through the mail. Hypothetically, of course, could a SD resident use my address in another state and then I forward mail to them? Or does getting the script require them to show a photo ID that would out them as being an SD resident? Could they tell an online pharmacist/medical provider they're on vacation and using my address?
Based on my understanding as a friend of medical professionals (so actual experts pls correct)...If the telemedicine appt happens while the patient is in a given state, the doc has to be licensed in that state and follow the rules of that license. They softened some of thosw rules during covid, but they're back in place now.

Yes you have to attest you are in that state before the telemed appointment. So is you were to say you were in SD but weren't I'm wondering if you could have penalties for fraud or something like that.
