My brain feels so frazzled. I feel disorganized, but I don't even know WHAT I'm trying to sort out. I don't think I have all that much on my plate (not overwhelmed at work, for example). But my brain is swirling like a tornado.
This is an older story, but I just stumbled on it. And totally random. Guy has a crane wife. And, related, I’m pretty sure I’ve met the guy back in college. The name is oddly familiar, and not just bc it’s similar to famous people. Or maybe that’s all it is and I’m looking for a connection given we were at the same huge university at the same time 😂

I had a second round interview on Friday and I feel nauseous because I’m not sure after the interview if I actually want the job. A couple of things I learned during the conversation make it seem like it isn’t as good a fit as I initially thought. I also know and work professionally with the hiring manager so I need to be thoughtful about how I handle it. Thankfully I have advanced from phone screen to first round for another job I’m excited about and I’m hopeful I’ll get a screen for a 3rd job sometime this week based on info I’m getting from my contact there.
Job searching is so freaking stressful I feel like I’m going to cry like 24/7 but I also don’t want to make the wrong choice. My current job is becoming toxic but there are some pluses that I’m not willing to trade out of desperation and I KNOW I’m not desperate. I will get a good job, the right job, even if it isn’t one of these jobs.
seeyalater52 Hugs. I have conducted interviews, and my managers told me early on to remember the candidate is also interviewing us. We try to make it clear what the job entails and expectations. A few times we have had someone turn us down because they say it wasn't the right fit.

I went to the Delaware Pride Festival this weekend to volunteer with Free Mom Hugs. It was just an amazing experience. I met so many awesome people and the energy at the whole event was so happy and positive.
There were so many people who you could tell really needed a hug and to know there were people who supported them and loved them. I hugged one man who said he was basically starting over at 64 - he had just come out and went through a very nasty divorce from his ex-wife. He said he was scared, but felt free, too. I hope I see him at the next Pride in June 2022 to check in.
My boss is on leave for 8 weeks so I am officially covering her role. It's a decent step up for me and one that I'd like to have in time so it's a good experience. But it means I'll be rather busy for this period!
Long leave is a hang over from colonial times, when every 3 years, you took a ship back to England for 3/4 months leave. It doesnt exist any more but some people, like my boss who hav\s been in the civil service since she was straight out of university, have been able to keep that benefit. I am not so lucky!!
Back to my rotting walls. We have 4 of 5 windows re-installed in one wall. But, I did some looking into things over the weekend, and, the fact that our wood had signs on little tunnels in it suggests there were termites at some point. 😬 We saw no living (or dead) bugs, so…. Thinking that perhaps the structure was treated and any infestation mitigated, but just the covered up the damage. I have someone coming out tomorrow to discuss treating the foundation with one of the long-term treatments.
Of course, I just went out to plant a couple new plants in the bed 8 feet from the house, and I’m 90% certain I stuck my shovel in a nest of termites. FML. So yeah… I’m definitely treating.
I am not one to spray for bugs. I mostly accept they are a part of living in this world. I use DE in basement cracks and just smack the ones that I see. My yard gets milky spore for grubs, not chemicals. Stuff like that. Plus, I’m not in Florida with flying roaches and scorpions, so the bugs are pretty easy to control without heavy chemicals. So I’m a bit angsty that I want to put down poison for termites.

We went to a local plant and flower nursery and got a bunch of bulbs to plant. I hope I remember to plant them, haha.
I'm actually looking forward to this weekend for our anniversary. DH and I will be alone, we are getting seafood, staying home and just enjoying time together.
Also, a dear friend passed away on Friday from Stage IV pancreatic cancer. She was such a light in this world, and I'm sad she's gone. But she was so sad from the loss of her husband a few years ago, I know they're reunited.

I mean....they want to eat your house. It's not like ants where they just want to steal your crumbs and be gross or paper wasps that want to build their little homes and scare the shit out of you buzzing by. They want to eat.your.house.
we found similar signs of old damage when we did the demo for our renovation several years ago, and did the whole foundation treatment thing while we had it all opened up. They come out and spray around the edges once a year now, and inspect for termites.
wawa , H and I have this battle over ants all the time. He sees an ant and wants to spray. They are his nemesis. I’m always having to talk him down from apaocolyptic measures, for ants.

also, any recommdation for locals?
Don't spray. The spray is toxic for everyone, just more toxic for the ants. Use terro traps.
But I am more worried about termites than cockroaches (maybe because the later aren't an issue here). Living in earthquake country I don't want to live in a sponge that might collapse with the next big one. lol.

we use American Pest. It was a smaller local outfit when we first used them, and have since become part of a larger group I think? They're ok. I liked them better before the purchase.
I trapped a skunk last night. Thankfully I was able to let him to without getting sprayed directly but he soaked the puppy pad. I put the puppy pad under my rear windshield wiper and drove to the nearest dumpster and chucked it in.

This was my nightmare when I had to tap an escaped house cat.

ACK. I helped with an accidentally trapped skunk once. It was not a fun experience.
pixy0stix, bears- There was lots of cursing. A friend of mine works near the dumpster and I told her about it and she said "I thought I smelled skunk." Thankfully it was a little one.

I went into the office for the first time in a whole year to get my new badge. Was still really quiet and weird (fed office only at 25% capacity). All my calendars are still on March 2020 and my spider plant was completely dead.

I guess I wasn’t clear. He wants to spray and go all apocalyptic for ants. And I have to talk him down (hence the battle we have).

I read somewhere that fixing moisture issues in your house will do more for keeping ants away than poisons. Which...given the sun room issues is an interesting factiod. Though it is one that I have zero citation for you to use as ammunition since I literally "read it somewhere once" at some point in my lifetime.
We have the occasional ant incursion and terro baits always do the trick.

Yeah. I usually use bait traps. And they would well.
when we lived on 3/4 acre, I caught him spraying the mailbox at the end of the driveway. I seriously lit into him. They weren’t even near the house, but that is how strong his hatred is. It’s really ridiculous. And just ants. Nothing else bothers him. 🙄

My office used to have a 2 1/2-day meeting for our department in the Before Times. They'd fly associates in from all over the U.S. We'd spend 2 days discussing and collaborating, and the 1/2 day, we'd do a charitable project.
They're trying to re-create the in-person event over Zoom. The charitable event is to take a fleece blanket and create a no-sew "fringe" around the edge of it, and mail it to the charity (I have no idea why we can't just ... mail the fleece blanket -- there's nothing on the website about WHY the blankets need this fringe).
Even though it's "no-sew," it still requires supplies I don't have, and just don't have the bandwidth (time-wise or mental health-wise) to go obtain them before the team project.
My coworker was out of the office yesterday, so it fell to me to handle a small confrontation with a person on another team who consistently steps out of line regarding what my team does. We needed her to do something. We needed it quickly (needed it last week actually). She didn't say no outright, but she wanted extra stuff that would have delayed the product even more.
So I let my coworker know and in a quick phone call (which I feel really bad about because she was off!) she told me to rain hell.
I stayed professional, but I was also blunt because I didn't want to give her any wiggle room. It escalated to the point that I gave my manager a heads up but he didn't actually have to step in. She finally did what we needed late (after EOD) yesterday.
Then she complemented another coworker on the design choice for this product and said she would have mentioned it sooner but for all the hoopla. Okay. So: 1. Don't start none, won't be none. 2. He got that piece of the design from a product I created last year. I showed him how to do it. He literally copied my work. She knows this because she pulled the same stunt last year with the product I developed.
I'm sure I haven't explained this very well because I'm trying to leave out identifying info. And I'm only posting because I'm trying to let it go because I will have to continue working with her so I've got to stay professional. But god damn I really want to be petty.
And why do I feel fucking hurt? I don't need this person to like me. I don't need her respect. Why do I care so much??

We had a huge thunderstorm come through last night and the dog was so stressed. She was barking off and on from 1:30 to 4:30. I am dragging today. I wish coffee was a thing that worked for me.
