The waiver was applied to my H’s account today and he got the trophy on FedLoan that said he’s made 120 qualifying payments!!!! Looks like he just needs to certify employment for Jan-March 2022 and he’s done!
He was one that didn’t need to do anything extra except keep certifying his current employment and wait for the waiver to be applied. He was already in right loan type and payment type and in the PSLF process. He had about 15 months paying and working in non-profits before he consolidated to direct loans in 2012. Also had some late payments that didn’t count, and various periods of forbearance.
About a week ago, the employer cert he sent in in Jan for 2021 was applied, and then today looks like waiver applied to cover those 15 months, the late payments, and the months where it flip-flopped between payment and forbearance in the same month.
I had calculated that he’d have 111 payments after the waiver, but I didn’t include the weird forbearance months.
Now we just wait for mine. I had to do the whole rigamarole because I had never consolidated to direct loans, but that’s done and FedLoan has received my PSLF application.
Awesome!! Congratulations!!
If they've already given him trophies that means he's made 120 qualifying payments already and you don't need to worry about certifying the recent few months.
Based on the patterns I've seen, I'd expect it to zero out in the next two weeks!! (Obviously there are some exceptions :::waves from trophy purgatory::: but most follow this pattern).
Recently consolidated folks also seem to be moving quickly, so hopefully you'll be free of this burden altogether in the next few months!
gretchenindisguise, OOOH, you are right! He has 124 eligible, 121 qualifying, and I guess he saw the three under "needs employment certification" and thought he needed to send it.
And I guess maybe we'll get a refund of one payment! I'll take it!

If it was a covid forebearance month, hopefully you didn't pay, right?
My booooo update: Mohela sent another letter today, saying DOE decided it’s not necessary to transfer my loans after all, so they’ll be keeping them. 🤦♀️ I assume because DOE thinks they’ve already applied the waiver to me (on my FFEL to Direct Loans). Grr. I already submitted another FSA complaint.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

So h’s loans are no longer at Nelnet and he was able to make an account on fedloan, but there’s nothing to see. Just two inbox messages that we’d already received via snail mail. Normal?
Totally normal.
They are "in the cloud." They should show up in under 2 weeks. A few days after they show up, you should get the first “fedloan count” that will say you have 3 payments (or however many months they have been consolidated). Two weeks later he will likely get forgiven.
I am fully expecting him to get forgiven before me. For some inexplicable reason, recent consolidation forgiveness happens really quickly.

Do you have plans for your new found money freedom? Will you get a refund for overpayments?
I am expecting 15 months of overpayments. With that plus tax return, we are paying off private student loans. 🤦♀️ But then freedom. Total and utter freedom from student loans that have been an albatross around our necks. Can.not.wait.
I love that you’ll be able to pay off private loans at the same time your federal loans are forgiven, gretchenindisguise! What an awesome time.
I told H last night that I’m going to buy a frivolous Tineco wet/dry vac when I get my refund, because he’s hassling me about wanting to buy it. Pfffft. And I’m totally getting the one with all the bells and whistles.

Haha, I'm paying for a landscaping project with part of my refund! Tell me you're a boring adult without telling me... LOL But that was the MOST amazing check to deposit!!

So I know the answer for this is probably no, but you guys have been really helpful so I’m going to ask anyway.
I had student loans from undergrad. While I was in grad school, I wasn’t paying on them because they were in deferment. But I was also doing unpaid internships for my graduate degree. Does anyone know if unpaid stuff counts…? Would it be worth trying?

I am inclined to think they won't count - some things to consider around them:
Were you considered an employee and can it be verified?
If they were in deferment you don't actually have any payments from that time frame to count toward your 120 right?

I would not think so. You'd have to be considered an employee, and you can't be classified as an employee if they aren't paying you (or they'd be in a lot of trouble).

Unless you're UCLA posting a faculty position... What a mess that situation is!
