gretchenindisguise , please feel free to tell me to keep researching, but I have a question. My FedLoan account updated with counts that put me at 119 Lolsob. There are also 5 showing they just need employer cert which I understand (Nov 2021 - April 2022), but there are also about 2 dozen ineligible payments showing “no bill due,” but they are months I was in continuous repayment. The discussions in the fb group about removing the no bill due designation seem like they’re different.
Is that what the waiver will do, add in every month I was in continuous repayment? It looks like the waiver was already applied, because I was in the wrong payment plan but those counts are now included.
I have no explanation for what happened, but I had a couple of years of "no bill due" payments that were originally not qualifying too. My account went from that to having everything forgiven with no updates in between. Annoyingly, once they forgive your loans you can't see any payments at all anymore, so I have no idea if they did end up counting all of those or some of them or none of them. But my loans did go away, so that's good at least.
I would assume something similar will happen to you, but since I never got any sort of explanation about it, who knows!
I had the same thing it's just (usually) another part of the confusing waiting game. I too never saw what happened to those specific payments because of the timing. That's part of the reason that I had no idea how many payments I was over or how much (if any) of a refund I was going to get until a check showed up in the mail!

Woohoo!! So glad that they finally updated!!!
Those ineligible ones, if you look at your loan status history - are you listed as “in repayment?”
Yup, it totally overlaps my time in repayment. I had pissed around as to what payment plan to use right after my grace period, and my servicer at the time retro applied forbearance, but this time is all after I got that sorted and have been listed as in repayment on the student aid website.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
Thanks, bex1973! I feel greedy saying it, because I’m overjoyed to get forgiveness at all, but I also have 3 years of payments over 120, before the COVID forbearance.

DOn't feel greedy - we OVERPAID so we deserve a refund! In fact we've probably overpaid for more than the refunds!

Then it will 💯 be updated. I hope it is very soon for you.

Three weeks after he got his trophies, my H’s loans were zeroed out today!!!!
And this weekend I was telling my aunt and uncle about the waiver, etc. They have the potential for a decent refund and my uncle offered me 10% of it if I figured all this out for them. We shook on it and he gave me all his log-ins to start the process. Show me the money!

I think my loans were forgiven today. I logged into FedLoan and my balance is $0. I don't think I'll believe it until I get something official.
I think that means they were too! When did you submit your last ECF? Seems like there’s a huge wave of forgiveness happening today for late December and even early January applicants. I know there’s anomalies on both sides of that time period but 🤞 I’m hopefully in this wave.

Woohoo!!! So happy to read this.
And totally get the hesitation. You should have the letter from FedLoan in the next few days. It didn't really really hit me until they fell off FSA a few days later. I cried.
OH MY GOD! My loans were forgiven today! Zero balance! At 10am when I looked, I still owed $57k! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
Hooray!!! Congrats! I'm loving that folks remember to update us when it happens - I'm invested in our ML peeps getting forgiveness!!!!!
Also - someone posted on the FB group that they were forgiven yesterday and they owed somewhere in the neighborhood of $400K. And of course that is AFTER paying for 10 years - they posted a picture of themselves crying - I got a little teary eyed for that person!
Well I finally got my denial letter! First update since early January. My tracker shows 23 eligible months during covid. Hopefully I’m close to TEPSLF and/or the waiver being applied for my decade+ of payments prior to that.

The denial letter could still be just a form letter that they sent out pre-waiver.

Don’t give up hope just yet.
This- got denied and then the Dept of Ed applies waiver!

Woohoo!
It's so like the government that a denial letter is actually a good sign. Hopefully in the next 2-6 weeks you'll see the Dept of Ed application of the waiver to your account!

Yeah, I’m taking it as a good sign. I compared it to letters other people had posted and they are already forgiven. Some were forgiven a week after getting the letter. The loan is in my mom’s name but I’ve always paid it. She called me freaking out but I calmed her down. She’s not in the fb group. She now has the online tracker showing up.
I think we’ll get a refund and I am curious if they will mail it to her or direct deposit it into my account (auto payments have always been from my account and I think her name is still on the account from when I was signed up for it as a teen). I want to pay off a small student loan in my name (the last one for DH and me) and do something really nice for her with the refund!

So it’s a ppl loan? You submitted based on mom’s employment, right?
H got a denial letter that he didn’t have enough payments, it looks like he only has 3, so I guess that’s a good sign/step!
That's a great step! That's the fedloan review - they can only see the 3 months since consolidation. Now it goes to Dept of Ed for the waiver review. Woot woot!

It’s a Direct Plus loan from 2004, consolidated subsidized / unsubsidized prior to 2007, in my mom’s name and her employer is eligible. She had her own grad school student loan payments overlapping my payments, but they’ve been paid off and I don’t know any details of what she did with the loans back then. In 2017 she was denied PSLF due to the graduated payment plan. Since the covid months are counting, the only issue seems to be payment count/ payment plan.
ETA: In 2017 she was planning to retire before 2027 and IBR would be based off her and my stepdad’s income which was greater than me and DH’s so payments would have been way too high for us (and she wouldn’t benefit filing taxes MFS).

Side note: One moment I remember so clearly from undergrad is waiting in the financial aid office and overhearing a girl crying to the registrar about her situation. It sounded like she was estranged from her narcissistic mother who refused to give her the income info to complete her FAFSA to continue the last year of her degree. I remember thinking the whole student loan / financial aid system was crazy at the time.
I had no idea I’d still be paying off the loan in my mom’s name at 40 though, and I’m sure she didn’t think it would be on her credit report for that long either. With any extra income we had as adults we prioritized DH’s student loans because they were smaller and much higher interest rate, or our retirements accounts. Obviously I’m thankful for the opportunity for PSLF but nobody could have predicted that at the time.

Phew. I was worried because of the weird rules around ppls!
I hope forgiveness comes soon! I can only imagine what a relief it will be for her and you both.

Yes. The whole thing is a racket.
I was talking about some others about the parent plus loans specifically and their role in the massive and rapid increase of college costs. I hadn’t made that connection but it makes sense to me.

Yeah, loan types stressed me out but all the research we’ve done indicates we are good to go.

We were poor, then my mom was a single mom with no child support who completed her undergrad and grad school while working, and married my stepdad when I was a teen. We had no college savings and none of my 3 older siblings went straight from high school to University. I got as much financial aid, work study, scholarships and personal loans as I could, but due to our family’s new lower middle class dual income and no younger dependents, the only option was to make up the remainder with parent loans. They weren’t thrilled with having to take out the loans and didn’t help me out financially at all because they didn’t think it would be fair to my older siblings (and still didn’t have much money to spare/ both had their own student loans and divorce debt).
