I am fucking furious. LEO get all the funding, praise, pay, insurance benefits and union support in the world here in TX compared to education and educators. AND THEY FAILED (REPEATEDLY) ON SUCH A HORRIFIC SCALE.
This timeline is destroying me. The same child called five times between 12:03 and 12:36. A different one called at 12:19. What the fuck were they waiting for? The thought of a child desperately trying to call for help and no one coming is too much.

And Abbott this fucker right here: “They showed amazing courage by running toward gunfire," the Republican governor said at a Wednesday news conference. “And it is a fact that because of their quick response, getting on the scene, being able to respond to the gunman and eliminate the gunman, they were able to save lives.”
An OFF DUTY agent had the time to come. A mother had time to drive 40 miles there and be cuffed. These police should be criminally charged, my God

And they wouldn’t let the parents into the school to save their kids? What was the reasoning behind that decision? The police thought that would be more dangerous for the kids compared to actually letting the shooter alone with a classroom full of kids and teachers? It was Texas, I am sure some parents arrived at the scene with guns. If the chicken shit police didn’t want to go in then they should have let their parents go in. Those kids were petrified, alone and scared out of their minds begging for help. I think if the parents were allowed to tried to get their kids then they would be at more peace that they tried their best to save their kids.
I hope the parents sue the whole state. This is the most horrific thing I have ever read.

I just get more and more angry with every update. Those poor kids and teachers. I can't imagine not only going through all of this, but begging someone to help and just waiting and waiting. This is just absolutely inexcusable on so many levels.

"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."
The more that comes out, the more infuriating and heartbreaking it gets.
All of this is so terrible, but I still can't grasp how 19 OFFICERS all agreed to stand in the halls for so long. Not 1 out of the 19 thought that was insane or that maybe they should do something different?! 19 OFFICERS!!!
An 11-year-old survivor of the Robb Elementary School massacre in Uvalde, Texas, feared the gunman would come back for her so she smeared herself in her friend's blood and played dead
(the child has provided many details about the murderer’s entry into the room)
I think a lot of it comes down to the police thinking their job is about controlling the public and blunt enforcement of laws and norms rather than helping people and they don’t have the interest or skills to actually engage in the world properly.
It’s why they didn’t want to risk their lives here and instead concentrated on controlling the parents and why they are so quick to shoot when they come across they think is a threat (for often racist and baseless reasons) rather than taking a minute accessing the situation.
There is a strong us vs them mentality and it leads to them reacting disproportionately to minor crimes (selling loose cigarettes) or protecting their own when they are in the position of engaging an actual threat like an active shooter over the general public.
The huge budgets and numbers means they are hiring massive amounts of people. The standards are not high. They are not hiring people who are willing or able to actually fulfill the role properly and not supporting the outlying officers who can. Figuring out how to handle an active shooter or someone who isn’t behaving the way they think is appropriate isn’t something officers either have skills or the interest in doing.
It’s not an easy job! It requires a very specific temperament and skill set to do well. But they are out here begging any old people off the streets to sign up. This isn’t new but it’s a lot worse now with the increase in budgets, glorification of policing in certain circles and the militarization of policing.

Herd mentality is a hell of a thing. Many people don’t have any interest in going against the grain.
I think many police officers have a very us vs them approach in policing. I’m not surprised they valued police officer lives over that of the public. Or why the police thought it was ok to snatch their children out of the school and leave behind others.
I doubt it. I’ve seen elsewhere (or maybe in this thread?) that it’s been litigated a lot and police are not actually required to put themselves in harms way to save or help anyone. I’ll try to find where I read it.
According to CNN the city had active shooter training at the high school this past March. Not only had these officers been trained, but it was fresh in their heads! Surely they can be charged with dereliction of duty?
Unlikely, SCOTUS has ruled police do not have a constitutional duty to protect people from harm-Deshaney vs Winnebago and Town of Castle Rock V. Gonzalez (Scalia, naturally).

If not. I wanted them named so people can squarely know who failed them so horrifically. They should not be allowed the comfort of anonymity.

Then wtf is the point of the police then?!?
Judging by the NYPD elite terrorism unit I see stationed by the Brooklyn Bridge every day-to play Candy Crush.
this is just so enraging. these mother-fuck&&&s that stood in the hallway, do they not have souls, do they not have families? They just hung out in the hallway and heard the horror and no-one fu%^&* did anything? And the poor parents outside hearing all of this going on

Don’t forget the ones outside that had were trying to detain parents and had their weapons and tasers ready to go.

Apparently they do have families, they went in and got their own children out.

That's not a joke. They play Candy Crush all day.
I don't think 19 NYPD officers would be standing in the hallway hanging out. They are more experienced and see alot more. These officers choked, didn't want to die or were completely inexperienced or just didn't give a sh**.
OMFG. Now parents in my district, including the Moms 4 Liberty nut job running for school board, are trying to organize fucking armed parents waiting just outside the gun-free zones at all the schools so they can check every person entering the school.
We only have two weeks left of school. I can’t believe I’m now actually hoping DD gets COVID so I don’t have to send her to school, knowing the strong possibility of there being random, armed, fucking lunatics waiting outside.
If that actually happens, there is zero chance I would allow my child to go to school. I would lie and say they have covid. No, I am not subjecting my child to a random parent-led armed checkpoint.
I wouldn’t lie. I would say that I’m not sending my child because it is unsafe to have untrained armed people in the vicinity of the school.
