So the Secret Service erased their text messages. No big deal.
The US Secret Service erased text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021, shortly after they were requested by oversight officials investigating the agency's response to the US Capitol riot, according to a letter given to the House select committee investigating the insurrection and obtained by CNN.
The letter, which was originally sent to the House and Senate Homeland Security Committees by the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General, says the messages were erased from the system as part of a device-replacement program after the watchdog asked the agency for records related to its electronic communications.
Yeah for a long time I was like "Well, he's still a D and that's the best we can get from WV" and now I would just rather he be gone even if an R replaces him (as is likely).
I had to get a Covid test to go on my vacation Monday. I tested positive. I am devastated. I havenāt had so much as a sniffle. Not a headache. Not a sneeze.
Not sure if op-eds are okay but this spoke to me: Opinion: As stars and politicians age, weāre entering a new era of stagnation
āItās fair to ask whether people born before the advent of cable TV and nuclear power ā in addition to delicious desserts ā are in the best position to represent a nation beset by issues that would have been unimaginable when they began their careers. Thatās especially true when those leaders rely on assumptions about how politics work that no longer apply.
Stars and pols alike are getting older for a similar reason: In a world where it costs a ton of money to simply generate awareness for a product, nothing is as valuable as a well-known name. In politics, this manifests in the remarkably powerful incumbency effect. In 2016, 98 percent of House members won reelection. Incumbency was worth an extra 3.2 percent at the polls.ā

There seems to be a lot of buzz that Biden is not going to run for re-election, and he will announce sometime around midterms. Iām sure this is all speculation, but if he does, what do you think that means for democrats?

I thought he had said all along he would only run for one term. I wouldnāt be upset, honestly.

That's what I thought as well, but if he was truly going to stick to that you'd think there'd be more chatter in the Dem circles as to possible 2024 candidates.
I wouldn't be upset if he didn't run again. The Dems need something/someone to get excited about...unless, of course, it just ends in divide and we're back in 2016.
Canāt decide. Iām not so into Biden these days and Iād love to see a more progressive candidate. And I saw a poll that Biden leads Trump by 3% right now. Iād like to take my chances but Iām worried about regretting that.

I think there is āsomeā chatter: Harris, Newsom, Buttigieg

I heard Newsom was running ads against DeathSantis in FL, and that he wouldnāt do that unless he was gearing up for a presidential campaign.

Which is why he should have never been the nominee.
Kamala is in a weaker position for having been VP unless Biden officially and clearly passes the torch and the party rallies around her. Newsom and Kamala against each other leaves CA eating it's own. Buttigeg isn't going to get it. Warren isn't a contender this time. The Bernie idiots will get all riled up again. I think we come out of that handing DeSantis (or TFG) the presidency.

Iām focused on the midterms. If we do not take additional seats in the Senate, keep the House and subsequently expand the Supreme Court and end the filibuster, it wonāt matter who runs. I fully expect the Supreme Court to roll back voting rights with Moore vs Harper. Without a strong showing in the midterms, our democracy will be over and we hand the presidency to Trump or DeSantis regardless of who the public votes for.

Agreed. And when my turn came for the primary it was already over (NJ, so June primary) I wrote Warren in because I wasnāt supporting Biden as the nominee. I of course wrote postcards and knocked doors for him and voted for him in the general, but the party made a huge mistake.
I hope he very publicly passes the torch to Harris because we canāt risk being in chaos for this election.

Ive also heard chatter about Gretchen Whitmer.
I don't know if she could make a real go of it in 2024 (especially up against Newsom or Harris), but I would be 100% behind a Harris/Whitmer ticket.

Another of the Tory candidates dropped out due to lack of MP votes, Tugendhat. The final four are vying for his votes. They are: Rishi Sunak with 115 votes, Penny Mordaunt with 82 votes, Liz Truss with 71 votes and Kemi Bedenoch with 58 votes (I hope she sinks next). There are 31 votes up for grabs at the next hustings (which is what they call the MP votes). Eventually, it'll get to the last two and there will then be a vote by the Tory members (you have to pay to be a member so it's a small number - one of the least democratic things we have in this country) for who will stand for PM until the next election.
Former President Trump on Monday cast the Pulitzer Prize boardās rejection of his demand to revoke awards given to The New York Times and The Washington Post as ārunning coverā for āthe biggest reporting failure in modern history.ā
The board earlier Monday said it would not fulfill multiple requests by Trump to rescind awards to the staff of the two newspapers in 2018 for reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election because it saw no reason to do so.
āHeās going into this thinking, āI want to find a running mate I can turn things over to after four years, but if thatās not possible or doesnāt happen then Iāll run for reelection.ā But heās not going to publicly make a one-term pledge,ā another adviser reportedly said.
I think this was smart, because if things were really going well then he could say it makes sense to stay. But now, he can say, I left the door open to just running for one term. The article also suggests that Biden wanted to be able to pass the torch to his VP, but the problem is that being the VP puts Harris in line for lots of criticism but not much opportunity to effectuate change. Plus, all the conspiracy theorists basically said that Harris would be leading the White House and Biden was a figure head. That was not true, but it puts an extra burden on her.
Honest question? Does Kamala have any momentum at all? I feel like she has been largely invisible? The only times I see Kamala's face is when I come across a "we did it, Joe" meme š„²
