I'm in Kansas. Our primaries are in August, and also on the ballot is a state constitutional amendment to say that abortion is not a right and would clear the path for laws limiting or banning abortion. I'll be working at a polling location and just went to a poll workers' training, where the trainer put up a slide with these numbers:
Applications for an advance ballot in the county: 5/1-6/23: 100 applications 6/24-7/20: 6820 applications
New voter registrations in the county: 5/1-6/23: 454 6/24-7/20: 965
I have no idea how this is going to play out. I'm in a blue county so those numbers are encouraging, but if the rest of the state is seeing a similar surge then it's a moot point. But I don't know, it seems to me that people are more motivated by anger, right? So it's more likely that new registrations are coming from people who are pro-choice? I really don't know though.

I've always thought it was a position was a certain expectation of public facing dignity that historically has been fairly well maintained. But that might be totally false. Not like I've been actually paying attention for very long compared to the lifetime of the court.
