I was on vacation in Colorado for the last week visiting family and doing touristy stuff. I had the best time and really enjoyed reconnecting with family that I haven't seen in person for a long time. I'm not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.

It's been in the mid to upper 80s the past few days and I have had cricket training for two hours in it, and then played a match for 4 hours in it. I'm not a fan of heat (I prefer 70s, which is not unusual in the London summer) so this has taken a lot out of me. So tonight, I'm drinking some lovely Rosé after drinking 2 litres of water.
My random is that I need to confess my love of clickbait. Turn on the ad blocker, and the show me 50 crazy picture, 25 creepy things pulled from Reddit, etc. Collate it for me please.
First, eewww, ants.
Can you read all the clickbait for me and give me the summary? Like all the stuff under the ap article on the guy ramming the capitol barricade. Why did the vet call the cops on a family's new dog? What did the dog have if not puppies? Why does the horse keep hugging the lady? Why are Muir fans surprised by his wedding photos? What 7 year old lie did the wife find in her husband's car? Why was the woman shocked to learn something about her mother's ring? Why will I cry at the last photo 4 sisters recreated every year (this one I can guess... I assume one died).

SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!!
Oh. Not those really. More like the “21 things your flight attendant won’t tell you” or “50 bazillion post apocalyptic pictures that are here now.” (My two most recent). And all the George Takei ones stollen from Reddit.

I refuse to create a reddit account. So I read the AITA stories on percolately. Com. (One of Takei's sites)
I follow the AITA twitter feed too, but they don't post new stories very often. Some of the questions people post are so bizarre and sad. And then others are hysterical.

I'm having neck and jaw pain - I dislocated my jaw when I was in university (thanks to playing field hockey) and it feels like this - almost like there's an impediment to closing my jaw the right way and it's painful to chew. I also have a very tight neck. I do not have any idea how this has happened. I've tried ice and heat and nothing seems to be working. Ugh.
After several years of saying I was going to do it, I finally signed up for a curbside composting service. We've tried to do it ourselves, and I'm just not invested enough in the process to keep it going. Also, since this is a service that takes it to a commercial facility, we can add in meat and some paper products that can't be recycled (like shredded paper).

How can you find that? We have compost bins and use them, but don’t even know what to do with the compost after (we don’t really do gardening). I would love to pay for someone to take it away and handle it for me, I don’t even need it back in the form of dirt.

Google (and I'm not being snarky lol). I Googled my town and curbside composting. We have two companies, one commercial grade, one not. I chose which one I wanted from there.
After being on multiple daily injections of insulin for diabetes for the last 15 years, I am getting an insulin pump! I am so excited about this! I was told a long long time ago that my insulin needs were "too high" and a pump wouldn't work for me, so I just quit asking about it. Apparently this was wrong information (like really wrong).
Today I had my regular quarterly check-in with my endocrinology NP and she asked if I would consider one because I'm the right candidate for it. Hell yes, I will!
The fatigue and anxiety of MDIs and finger sticks and constantly chasing down highs and preventing lows is just so much. Being on a pump doesn't mean everything is automated, but not having to give myself an injection every time I want to eat vs. just plugging in how many carbs I'm going to eat and have the pump dose accordingly is a much better deal!

This morning I "attended" a funeral mass for my cousin. Attended is in quotes, because virtual was my only attendance option, and it's a bit weird observing a two hour mass from my home office. (cousin lived overseas, as does a bunch of that side of the family)
This cousin is the first from my generation to die. He was not an old man - early 50's. Because much of my family lives overseas, I have only really met many of them a handful of times. But this cousin was one that welcomed my husband and I went we went over to visit, and he took us out for a great evening while we were there.
I woke up at 5am so I could be showered and dressed to watch the feed from the funeral home, of the casket being removed from his home (visitation was there yesterday), placed in a hearse, and that hearse led my family and cousin's friends and colleagues on their walk to the cathedral. (I guess funeral homes there now get drone licenses?) And then the mass, followed by a receiving line outside the church. The feed cut out right as the hearse was leaving (with the family and friends following on foot, again) for the burial.
It's weird. I've really only spent, say, a handful of hours with this cousin. Maybe on two or three separate visits, total, over the course of my life. And yet this has hit like a ton of bricks. I suspect some of that might be the that this is a sledgehammer taken to the idea that my generation is invincible, and that we will all outlive our parents. I suspect all of us have been operating in that frame of reference, and this is a stark reminder that life (and death) don't always go according to plan. My parents, in their retirement, have been able to make quite a few trips overseas to see the whole family (they were all at a different cousin's wedding just five weeks ago - some of the photos shown at the funeral were from that wedding, I think). So my folks are likely feeling this all more keenly than I.
I've begged off from a work social thing later today, saying I'm still isolating from a trip last week that had high covid risks. But, really, I'm just sort of a weepy, exhausted, mess today, and don't really want to deal with people.
audette, my condolences; take care today. Virtual funerals are one thing that I hope continues in the post-covid world. It's such a gift to be able to "attend" if you live far away.

Just want to say I have been browsing AITA most of the day. And dayum there are so many drama-filled people who don’t know how to interact with others. Like drama I couldn’t even tolerate in my 20s. And cruel people.

I'm leaving tonight for a weekend at the beach with my girlfriends. We are basically going to sit by the pool and eat and drink and I'm very excited.
We're an allergy-intense group - three girls (sisters) can't have gluten and one can't have dairy. I ordered brownies from an awesome local baker and I made some chex mix with vegan butter and gluten free pretzels. I'm glad we don't have to pay for the house (it belongs to the GF sisters' aunt) because these ladies are expensive.
I would like to know why a small portion of eastern Oregon is on mountain time, while all of Washington state and part of Idaho is Pacific time! Who decides these things??

Total guess here, but perhaps one line matches the great divide, and the other something else? (or, a mistaken understanding of the great divide?)

OMG, what a night. My mom was watching my aunt's two German short-haired pointers while they were out of town (coming back today), and they got into a box of raisin bran cereal. For some resaon, my mom was insisting they didn't need to go to the vet, despite her sister telling her she wanted them to be seen by a vet.
My mom dropped the dogs of with me (parked as far as she could from my house, literally handed me two young, strong giant dogs and drove away), and I took them to the vet. They induced vomiting and there were a LOT of raisins. The vet said if they hadn't come in, it could have been bad.
My aunt got home about the same time we got out of the vet, and my mom was there, too, telling my aunt how "bad" her dogs are, which, they're not -- they're young, you can't just put them in the basement and leave them unattended most of the day when your house isn't dogproofed.
For those that don’t want to browse Reddit, I give you my own AITA.
Biking on a mixed use trail. I come upon a family spread across the path. I ring my bell and move left. One family member is oblivious. I ring again. No one has flinched at either bell, I make mental plans to just go up on the grass. A member of the group glances behind, sees me, and tells lollygagger to move over, the starts loudly muttering about how “people” aren’t saying “ON YOUR LEFT” like they should. She says this twice, the second time obviously meant for me to hear. I said back “I rang my bell” and the rang in again for emphasis. And she just muttered something else I was too far past to hear.

FWIW, I can't hear the bells when people ring them (hearing loss). I appreciate a loud ON YOUR LEFT. I don't think you're an asshole, but also in the future be aware that people can't hear the dings.

That’s fair. Not to sound too defensive, but a comment about not hearing it would have been a whole lot better than a passive aggressive lecture (phrasing as thought it was aimed at the family member) such that I’m still mulling it over a week later. But, probably just caught someone in a panic and got a reaction more than anything. A guess it was less about the bell vs saying something and more the interaction between us. Loud comment about people not doing what they should and my comeback about ringing the bell and then ringing it again.

I think protocol is to say on your left. I run on a multi use trail and I will say very few bikers give any notification (maybe 25%)? So perhaps her comment was more frustration in general than with you specifically.
ETA: plus if she didn’t hear your bell she can’t comment that she didn’t hear it kwim? It just seems like you came out of nowhere.
