So, apparently the asshole is whining on his platform that they took his passports.
so…umm… they think he is a flight risk? And took back his diplomatic passport along with his tourist one?
Is there a source for this besides Trump's claim? IIRC it wasn't listed on the inventory of what the FBI took. And I'd think a separate court order would be required to confiscate passports.

At the moment, I couldn’t find anything. I did try to find another source, but couldn’t find anything beyond people saying he was saying it. I decided that him screaming about it spoke to his derangement, and could be worth discussion.
edit - and whoa, I though the brown/maroon one was the diplomatic. But apparently, thats the official password. Diplomatic is black. Tourist is blue. Guess I got confused because I’ve been told the official/maroon one lets you go through diplomatic lines at customs. Cannot confirm personally (haven’t done an international trip), just what friends have told me.
Hmmm, interesting. I traveled with an attorney for DOS and a few HHS staffers in May, and they all got diplomatic passports for the trip. It was interesting because it wasn’t consistent even with them, but most said they were required to give their regular passport to DOS while they were using the Diplomatic, that they weren’t supposed to have two in their possession, and had to return the Diplomatic at the end of the trip.

Black or maroon? Up until today (the Newsweek article), I thought maroon was diplomatic.
I am surprised yet not that now Trump and his team are saying that he had a standing order dictating that documents taken from the Oval Office to his residence were "deemed to be declassified the moment he removed them."

Google says black is diplomatic.
Right. But up until 2 hours ago (3 or 4 posts up), I thought maroon was. My point was if they had a maroon passport, they might have called it diplomatic, even though it’s not. But at the office, we called the ones we get (maroon) our diplomatic passports.

John Bolton is speaking out and calling BS.
But I thought the documents were planted?
Let's see that order then! I'm sure it totally exists *nods*
In 1994 or so, they ran out of blue for a short time and made some of the regular passports green instead of blue. My sister’s first passport was green. Got lots of weird looks trying to re-enter the country. She still has it somewhere.

I would not be surprised if he did try to make that “rule” at some point. “I can’t be bothered to handle sensitive documents appropriately so any documents I mishandle just aren’t sensitive anymore” is the most Trumpian thing. But it doesn’t mean anything, just like Michael Scott yelling “I declare bankruptcy” 🙄
A house one street over from us had a Trump sign in 2016 (unusual in my pretty blue area). In 2020, they had a "Still deplorable. Still voting for Trump. " sign. At least 6 other people on that side of the street then had the "Nope" signs with the Trump toupee, lol. Not so shockingly, both neighbors flanking the Trump house sold their houses this spring.
But yeah, the people willing to show their "loyalty" that loud and proud are never coming back to this side of reality.
Do you really think they moved because of a trumper living next door? Our neighbor has had a Trump sign in his yard since 2016 and... well, that's not making me move!
I don’t think anyone would move because of a neighboring Trumper/displayed flag. But if I was looking to buy a new house, I would 100% form a judgement before even making it past the driveway. I am 90% sure that house would never be a consideration for me, unless it met a very specific need. (I.e. it was the only house for sale in a school district with a program my kid absolutely needed or something like that)
so while the flag might not influence someone to leave, I bet it does influence who moves in, to some degree.

the house we bought was owned by trumpsters. They had a trump flag flying when we toured it. We joked when we put in an offer that the very first thing we would do is light sage to smudge the shit out of the house.
**the rest of our area is very blue and the neighbors all had various democratic lawn signs when we toured, so we knew we would fit in.

What I "love" about this - Trump became President for his own selfish interests, but the man is dumb enough to really think he can just do WHATEVER he wants w/ absolutely no repercussions. And for most of his life, he's basically gotten away with it. But - BECAUSE of being President, he's put a spotlight on himself, his kids, and his dealings. It may not be the downfall for him (although I pray it is) - but it's definitely making his life a lot more difficult, and may ruin the lives of people around him - even if not him directly.

This is how I have felt for the last 5 years. No one would give a shit about him and his shady ass if he didn't run for POTUS. But yeah, I guess when you're accustomed to never dealing with repercussions in your life, you don't think about that.
So I was wrong, THIS is the most Trumpian thing ever: Per an email from the DOJ to Trump's lawyers, the FBI found the passports among the items seized and notified his lawyer that they would be returned - the email is timestamped BEFORE Trump tweeted about it. So he most likely didn't even know they were gone until the FBI reached out to return them, and decided to play the victim and falsely accuse the FBI of "stealing" them.

As someone who was house hunting 2020-2022… this 100% played into my judgement. There were a couple of waterfront places we rules out because of the proximity to trump flags.

It really depends on the country whether they will let you through the diplomatic line with “just” an official passport. Some countries will. But I definitely tried in at least one country and was refused and directed back to the general line.

Do you qualify for an APEC card? My husband has one and it gets us through the diplomatic line at participating countries all the time, even with just a blue passport. My kids and I get to use the diplomatic line, too, when we are with him. The one and only time we were denied was this summer in Australia because my son is only 13 and therefore not eligible to use the biometric identification that is required to use that line—but my husband and daughter did walk through in about 5 minutes while I waited with DS in the regular line.
(And because I know someone will ask, APEC is NOT diplomatic clearance and does not give the same benefits while overseas, it’s just offers expedited immigration and from my experience, almost always shares the same line as flight crew and/or diplomats when going through immigration)

Over 300 classified documents have been collected from Trump since leaving office: "In total, the government has recovered more than 300 documents with classified markings from Mr. Trump since he left office, the people said: that first batch of documents returned in January, another set provided by Mr. Trump’s aides to the Justice Department in June and the material seized by the F.B.I. in the search this month.."
