Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene deceptively claimed at a rally for former President Donald Trump in Warren, Michigan, on Saturday that Democrats are murdering Republicans.
"I'm not going to mince words with you all," Greene said. "Democrats want Republicans dead. They've already started the killings."

DH and I are 99% sure we saw MTG in the Philadelphia airport a few weeks ago. She hid around a corner and made her partner stand in front of her as they talked so that he was blocking her face from everyone.

Nope. You are showing support for that, it means it's a big part of your race for governor. (And as you are a Republican, you also support other things that are horrible too).
Herschel Walker, the football legend now running for Senate in Georgia, says he wants to completely ban abortion, likening it to murder and claiming there should be “no exception” for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.
But the Republican candidate has supported at least one exception—for himself.
A woman who asked not to be identified out of privacy concerns told The Daily Beast that after she and Walker conceived a child while they were dating in 2009 he urged her to get an abortion. The woman said she had the procedure and that Walker reimbursed her for it.
She supported these claims with a $575 receipt from the abortion clinic, a “get well” card from Walker, and a bank deposit receipt that included an image of a signed $700 personal check from Walker.

Ben Sasse is the only finalist for President of the University of Florida. I looked it up and NE does gubernatorial appointments for vacancies in Congress, with a later special election if there is a certain amount of time left in the term. His current term ends in 2026, so special election at some point feels likely? I don’t know anything about NE politics; is there any chance this could be an opportunity for dems?
As a UF alum I’m not thrilled with this choice, but any potential, no matter how small, to flip a Senate seat is a silver lining.

Getting even messier....he denied knowing her, know she's been identified as the mother of one of his children.

No. We are so red.
Ben Sasse is the proverbial broken clock. Sometimes he says something right, but he's generally wrong all the time. There is no flipping NE. I did once live next door, as in we shared a wall in a rowhouse, with a pro-choice great guy who regularly ran for office knowing he'd never win. That was in one of the most liberal districts in the state.
I'm mostly offended Sasse is in any way in the universe of UF president and likely to get it! whiskey tango foxtrot

This is untrue, re: solid red NE. Dems made significant gains in the state in 2020.

I was in Omaha right around the 2020 election and was genuinely surprised how many Biden/Harris signs, Black Lives Matter signs, etc I saw around the city.

Eh, Sasse is a decent candidate in a lot of ways. He is an academic and has experience in higher ed administration. My main concern is twofold: was he chosen by the board of trustees to appease all of the rabid republicans in the state government? It won’t be easy to paint him as a liberal radical but I know someone will try it. Secondly, how much, if any, resistance will he put up to DeSantis’s crusade agains the state university system?
An LGBT Texan can be fired from a job because of the way they dress, their pronouns or the bathroom they use, a federal judge ruled.
The ruling stemmed from a suit Texas brought in September of last year, just months after the Biden administration issued guidance showing states how to comply with federal anti-discrimination protections. A federal judge in Tennessee had already stayed the directives in 20 other states as part of a separate court case.
In case we didn't know the Fox machine and Hannity, et al weren't the most horrible human beings in our solar system. They really think airing this makes Biden look terrible. What? I hope wherever this PRIVATE message came from, gets someone severely punished. JFC. I truly had no idea that being a wonderful, loving parent, agonizing over a child's struggles and reaching out was newsworthy or a tool of heinous political sniping.

Trump and Ben Sasse won by a landslide in 2020, so although there are probably gains being made at the local level, it seems doubtful that NE is going to flip blue for a senate seat.

I read the quote and it choked me up. Every single human should have a parent who calls them “pal” and tells them they love them more than the world and when they’re experiencing hardship tell them that while they may not know how to help, they’re there for them.
Biden, like all of us, has his flaws, but I think he’s a fundamentally really good person who loves the shit out of his family.
I’m sure most of you have seen a bit of coverage about this. Three of our city council members who are Latino held a meeting, that was secretly recorded, where they made disparaging remarks about basically everyone: a gay council member, African Americans, Oaxacans, white liberal council members, Armenians, Jews, and a Southeast Asian council member. It’s a shitshow and although the head of the council is taking a leave, none of them have resigned yet.
I'm getting serious schadenfreude from the Kim Klacik "Unite the Right" rally fiasco.
(Background: Klacik has twice run unsuccessfully for Congress. In 2020, she ran for a seat representing Baltimore, totally shit on the city in her ads and got Trump's attention, lost both a special election and the regular election. She still gets lots of GOP dollars and airtime, has her own radio talk show.)
Timeline:
10/3: Klacik makes a big announcement about her "Unite the Right rally" (her exact words) on 10/22 with Dan Cox (MAGA extremist running for MD governor), other GOP celebs, and special guest performer James Taylor! (No, not that one...this is the James McCoy Taylor who is the Trumper, former Bachelor contestant, and who was recently arrested on DWI and weapons charges).
10/4: Every sane person is like, um, are you seriously reenacting the racist, anti-Semitic, deadly Charlottesville rally?!
10/10: Klacik doubles down on the name: "Simply laughable ‘journalists’ are trying to make a big deal about the name. I’m bringing the GOP in MD together. As a BLACK woman, it’s a shame white liberals are trying to suppress my voice.” ::eyeroll::
Also 10/10: Cox and other GOP bigwigs pull out of the event saying they didn't know that was the name.
10/11: The event name is changed to "Maryland United". The organizers claim they didn't know the old name was the same as Charlottesville and, "Unfortunately, some were likening our rally to one that occurred in 2017, which there is no relation."
10/12: The restaurant advertised by Klacik as the rally location says they have no booking for that event. "We don’t have any such event confirmed at our location. We have a different performer scheduled to perform that evening. There will be no political event here Oct. 22.”

I just heard about it on my drive into work this morning. I was listening to Power 105.9 and the DJ was emotional, understandably so. I think the union leader stepped down, but the rest of them need to also. It’s fucked up.

Nury Martinez has now resigned. They've already started talking about a special election and asking the other 2 to resign.

I think it’s only a matter of time before the other 2 resign. I’m interested in the investigation into redistricting. My district was redrawn and my city council person (a woman of East Indian background) oversaw a very diverse district now oversees a more homogeneous area and I know she was very upset about losing those neighborhoods she once oversaw, including her own.
Seriously! I saw that this morning and was so confused.
You pretty much have to be in most of HI. She's long been disliked by people in local politics and activism. I lived there during her first national election, but she was known at least a decade before that due to her anti-lgtbq work with her father including being a teen in his anti-marriage ad. She's truly terrible.
