Also Jocelyn Benson, our Michigan SOS, has been re-elected.
I know if they are projecting there is reason but I’m still nervous about prop 3. I’m seeing 57% of precincts reporting and an extremely close margin (52 to 48)
Almost midnight on the west coast Senate update. I had to be at an event where I couldn’t check my phone much tonight, so I just caught up, but it probably saved me some hours of anxiety.
Currently some sites are tentatively calling Fetterman with 93% return and he’s in the lead by 125k votes. That makes the Senate 48 D v. 47 R, with GA, NV, AZ and Wisconsin left to call. GA is so close with 96% reported and Warnock only ahead by 12k votes. Wisconsin will probably go R. NV and AZ are looking good for Dems but it’s only a little over half reported and Nevada has gotten tighter in the past couple hours.
I’m so disappointed! The only reason I wish I was still in TX is to vote Abbott out. He’s a horrible Governor who only cares about his own political agenda while Beto and all the other Dems put in the work and genuinely care about Texans. Beto had so many former R voters publicly state they were going to vote for him. IDK how people can’t connect the dots on how Abbott has negatively impacted their lives. There were polling place issues in Houston and I saw a video of a woman crying after trying for 3 hours at 2 locations, because she watched so many people drive away without voting. They allowed poll stations to stay open for longer and allow provisional ballots, but I fear it was too little too late.
Voter suppression plus billionaire funding won against grassroots efforts (and a little star support). We’ll see the stats but I feel like GenZ really showed up. There could have been better turnout in blue areas. Mothers Against Greg Abbott (the good MAGA) are already coming for Ted Cruz next.
Oh and WTF to Ken Paxton winning AG. He’s a criminal!
I’m so mad about F’ing Vance. I really thought Tom Ryan would pull this off.
So fucking infuriating. Sorry America.
I can’t believe how it wasn’t even close. I don’t ever want to hear that Ohio is a swing state ever again. It’s so far from being a swing state at this point.

I pray that no matter the ultimate outcome then act Dems did so well this midterm despite the headwinds — presidential party in office, inflation — makes them take a step back and realize they need to moderate and start having a policy platform besides hatred and helping corporations and the rich.
I know rationally this is a fever dream and it instead will just lead to more gerrymandering, voter suppression, and election delegitimizing. Sigh.
Also I am really bummed about Evan McMullin losing to Mike Lee. I hoped he could be a trailblazer as a way to show a potential way to address the immediate crisis that is the GOP - a more moderate Republican who can earn a coalition of Republicans, Dems, and Independents to kick out the extremists from safe red districts.
Finally, happy to see Warnock is up, but omg please let him finish over 50 percent so we don’t have to go through this again in a December runoff. 🙏
Also I just want to say I love that Fetterman gave his speech in a hoodie.
ETA- pictures from his victory party also show they had crudité on the buffet. Lol - I love this guy.
We call those veggie trays in Philly 😂.
I’m thrilled Fetterman won. He was not my primary candidate and I was really worried about his chances and I’m so so happy to wake up to this news. Like, actual tears happy.

We won Medicaid expansion in SD! So happy and relieved. This is very nearly the tail end of where we can do this by ballot votes so the future is bleak, but this is a big win.
@@ I was interested in a couple school board races. Our friend won his race, along with the other 2 sane candidates. They were running against a package deal of 3 conservative candidates and beat them all. My cousin was also running for school board, but she was running IN a pack of 3 conservatives (why is this a thing??). She did not win. Her H is an absolute nut job election denier and was running as a write in for state senate or house (he got kicked out of his party basically, there is a very interesting story around it, lol). I didn't see his name anywhere thankfully!
The Wisconsin race is so close! Could Barnes pull out a win?
I actually had a dream that he beat Johnson, wtf am I dreaming about this 😭
I was up for too long last night hoping for this. Last I heard Wauwatosa still hadn't finished counting and is expended to go heavily Barnes so really hoping he squeaks it out. I have no idea who someone votes Evers/Johnson.
Locally things seem to have gone well. Mayor when to our sane and calm candidate.
@@school board
Our elementary school board election turned pretty gross last month with lots of lbgt hate being spewed. 3 challengers to 3 sitting members were campaigning on “education not activism.” It seems as though they have lost. 1 is close enough that I’m not quite ready to call it yet. Our secondary school board has been equally messy lately and again it seems like a solid call for 2/3 of the seats. The 3rd seat is within 300 votes so it’ll be interesting how that swings.
Breathing easier locally. Seemingly doing ok nationally. Whew. I was worried.

I’m so glad to see this is a result in your local district! A few trans activists I follow on Twitter seem very positive about school board level wins and losses from an LGBTQ and trans hate perspective in particular. Some great trans state leg candidates won in places like MT, NH, and MN.
I doubt it will do much to curb the wave of hateful legislation and district level policies in a lot of places in the coming year but it makes me hopeful that we can mount an effective effort to defeat these people in the longer term and that the right has overplayed their hand with the level of vitriol they’ve directed toward trans kids.

The lines were insane yesterday.
I’m crossing everything Barnes defeats Johnson. It’s not over yet…

Our district also had the conservative fear mongering “pack” of 4 and I was so nervous about this. 2 of them are married. How is that legal but why would anyone think that’s a good idea? Thankfully the teachers union endorsed group minus 1, won last night.

Please let Barnes eek out the win! I am in IL but grew up in WI and a lot of my family is still there. I, too, have no idea how you vote Evers/Johnson. Those two are polar opposites. Fingers crossed!

Positive news out of Maine this morning:
Mills has been re-elected as governor. Pingree, the Dem, has been re-elected in ME-01. ME-02 hasn't been called yet, but it's looking cautiously positive for Golden, the Dem. The state legislature will stay blue.
Slightly disappointed in Michigan Supreme Court election results. Both incumbents won - one was endorsed by Democrats and the other by republicans. I was really hoping the other Den endorsed candidate would win but at least we didn’t lose one I guess.
Here is that lone "Dems will hold and possibly win" twitter guy. He said this is August, can't believe it might actually be true!
I don’t do twitter, but I have his feed up and was refreshing it over the last week because of someone (you?) sharing it. He has saved me some anxiety, that’s for sure. But to think he could actually be right?!! All my fingers are crossed.

My house race (MN-2), which every pundit/pollster said was a toss-up and one of the most competitive in the country, Angie Craig (D) won by 5 points. She only won by 2 against the same opponent 2 years ago.
I was actually surprised people thought this was such a close race in the first place.
It's also looking like Ds shut out Rs in all state wide elections this year too. Gov, SoS, Auditor, and AG incumbents all have won re-election, even though AG and Auditor are really, really close and haven't been called yet. All votes have been counted so there might be a recount but it's not a big enough margin it'll end up differently. The R AG candidate would need to find something like 40,000 votes.

It’s looking like dems flipped the Michigan House and Senate, meaning Governor, state House, and state Senate will all be led by Democrats for the first time in 40 years! That’s in addition to the voting rights act and abortion access proposals passing, too!
