I found out this morning that there are houses IN Disney World. Like, a whole neighborhood called Golden Oak and the two houses that are currently available are listed for $6MM and $9.5MM. Do we think most people live there year-round or are these more likely the vacation homes of wealthy Disney superfans?
So I follow Collins Tuohy Smith on IG and her parents own in there. They are huge Disney people. Anyway it seems like the owners get a lot of perks and they have specific community events.
Is that the daughter from the The Blind Side story?

My Dad needs to give me a few papers and he asked if he should fax them to me. LOL what? I definitely don't have a fax machine and I don't think he does either?
Tomorrow I'm taking the boys to a birthday party at the roller rink which should be interesting given that they have no idea how to skate.
I drove Lucy to school this morning since I had time, with David being off for a faculty meeting. Then I went to the nice suburban target to get soda and diapers and boring stuff like that. I love that I don’t have to buzz someone for toothpaste and soap there! I got a pistachio cream cold brew at Starbucks too. But I’m tired and ready for a nap now.
Ok it was a 2 margarita lunch date today, but what does buzz someone for toothpaste and soap mean? You have to literally push a buzzer and they keep this stuff behind a counter?

Ok, I am definitely a laughing at inappropriate times person and again it was a 2 margarita lunch, but that thread about parent advice more trouble at school just reminds me of a story not appropriate to add to that thread as it is funny and that thread is not. So growing up in a small town my parents were good friends with lots of my teachers. So one day a teacher friend of theirs was walking down the hall of my elementary school in 1980 something and heard another teacher friend getting after her class and then heard "Y'all need to straighten up, you're acting like a bunch of dildos!" Friend in the hall was aghast and pulled that teacher friend out in the hall and asked if she was OK and did she need help. Teacher friend was confused about the concern. Other teacher explained she was concerned since she called her students dildos. Still it did not register why that was wrong, so she asked her what a dildo was and she said "silly people, they were acting like silly people!". So when the true definition of dildo was shared the color went out of her face and she said "My God, I've been calling them that all week".

DD1 got invited to a roller skaiting bday party this weekend too! I’m making my H take her because I hate roller skating so much! As a kid, our school went every year as an end of the year field trip and I was the kid that always got hurt. I have terrible memories of falling, hitting my head in the floor, and then sitting out the rest of the field trip. DD1 doesn’t know how to skate either and I’m sending her with a bike helmet. I hope she has fun but I was surprised the parents want to deal with a bunch of 8 year olds where most probably can’t skate!

Our neighborhood the kids are out on rollerblades by that age all the time. Skating around and playing street hockey. So kids might be skating well.

This week has been rough. H and I are in terrible moods, but not toward one another or the kids. Stress is building at both jobs. I think layoffs are coming at my company. I am perplexed at how corporations are making billion dollar profits for years and now can’t pay lower employees. I am ready for 5:30. I want to be off
isabel, glad you enjoyed your trip! how was elote?
It was good. I enjoyed my meal. I’ve had better upscale Mexican though. Their salsa was kind of meh. Super chunky and didn’t have enough chile flavor. I got the goat cheese app, which I enjoyed and the braised pork cheeks, which were really delicious. Margarita was good and not too sweet. A solid restaurant and I’d go back, but it wasn’t mind blowing.
I also ate at The Hudson, which, again, wasn’t mind blowing, but was really tasty and seemed to have just consistently solid food.
Tamaliza was great, but very pricey for what you get. Butterfly Burger was really good. The Secret Garden cafe at Tlaquepaque was meh.
Boynton Canyon with the Subway Cave and the Soldier Pass-Brins Mesa loop were my favorite hikes.
That’s more than you asked for, but I think you said you’re going in a few weeks. 😊

My husband builds custom homes in NC. He has become friends with another custom home builder from FL (dh actually built this guys second home in NC). Guy builds in Golden Oaks. We got to tour a few of the homes a few years back. The houses were unbelievable. Every detail was thought out. One we toured was themed like HP and they had slides in it and the closet that Harry slept in. My DH was like a kid in a candy store (he likes to do tricky and neat things in the houses he builds). There were also some homes that weren’t Disney themed at all.

Great reviews! I'm glad all of the phone calls to Elote were worth it (LOL!)! My family and I might be heading to Sedona soon-ish, so your restaurant feedback is very much appreciated.
I find Costco so stressful! I was really dreading it today because I thought it would be busy because of the Super Bowl but it was eerily empty! I was so relieved. A little puzzled but relieved.
You can’t predict it. Last time I was there on a random Friday at the same time, near no holidays it was so crowded I just kept driving.
I also have a BJ's membership and find it so much less stressful and less crowded. But Costco has some amazing stuff that you can't get anywhere else.
I have been tempted to try it. Sometimes we get 2 week passes in the mail, maybe I will but I think it would hard to give up on Costco even though I kind of hate it.

I'm not ProfessorArtNerd but in many cities, expensive or often stolen items will be on the shelf as normal but behind a locked plastic case. There is a button nearby that you press for assistance to unlock the case.
A FB acquaintance is at Universal with her 5 year old to perform with her dance troupe. This stuff is such a racket. They are basically just performing for their parents on some random stage. Our high school dance teams go do this in Hawaii once every 4 years. They perform in a really out of the way spot at Pearl Harbour, it's just their parents watching. It's crazy to me that this is so common.

Lol. My grandfather, a school superintendent in the 40s, 50s and 60s, used "boob" as his favorite insult. A football player who made a mistake was aways a boob. I'm guessing he never used it with kids.

Any travel thing with kids is a racket. I see this with choirs, dance troupes and sports all the time.
Why can't all those "travel" teams just compete against the myriad of other local "travel" teams?

I have a routine doctor's appointment this afternoon. I need a cortisone injection in my wrist. I have bad arthritis in both wrists, and one is starting to be bone on bone. I hope it helps.
Tonight, we zoom with my MIL, and friends we all know. Every year, we take her on vacation with us. This year, we're not going. She's been a bitch the last several vacations, and it's very stressful for both of us. She's so mad we're not going, that she hasn't talked to my H is several weeks, and hasn't been attending our zooms. She's always been spoiled and manipulative, and we can't take 2 weeks with her on our vacation.

My favorite is how every kid we know who participates in something competitive has won Nationals of some kind.

Every single person I know involved in cheer has a daughter talented enough to "win" the chance to compete in Florida. As they compete only against other teams from NJ, it could be held in say, NJ.

For high school I get it at least. One of my favorite weeks ever in school was dancing in Epcot on the America stage with my drill team. I mean I got to miss 3 days of school to ride rides and dance with my friends?! It was worth it.
For a 5 year old?! Absolutely not. Definitely a racket.

In certain neighborhoods and cities they lock items up so you have to ring a bell to get them, an employee comes and unlocks the shelf.

We did a party at a roller skating place and have gone to a lot of parties there as well. They let parents go in the middle circle with their kids if they need help skating, parents wear their regular shoes. Make sure you wear something that you can get run over and not be in too much pain...our first time was in the summer and I wore flip flops

Yes! Our marching band went to Disney every other year in HS, and it was the best. We marched in the parade so it wasn't just us performing, and it was a cool experience - but I could have easily skipped the marching part and just hung out with my friends at Disney. None of our parents came with us except a few chaperones so it was a pretty inexpensive trip (I think Disney used to be less expensive 25 years ago...)
For little kids who have to bring the whole family along? No way. A 5 year old isn't even likely going to remember it when they grow up!
My SS’s choir was going to perform at Disneyland. Ok cool. Costs $230 and he can go to Disney. It’s during the school day, so our family doesn’t need to travel. Ok fine.
Then we get a note that the “choir decided not to perform” so they are just going to watch the band and then hit up Disneyland.
I want to say, just tell us from the beginning, the band/choir teacher wants to go to Disneyland.
I started volunteering at my local public library shelving books and cleaning up the children's department. I was reading shelves today and a grandpa and grandson came in. I'd guess the boy to be around 4 years old. They were playing and looking for books for a while. The grandpa said "ok, it's time to leave, but I need to use the bathroom first." The little boy asked why and the grandpa said because he had to pee. (I don't think he saw me nearby because I was sitting on the floor below the shelves.) They go in the bathroom and it has an automatic hand dryer. The boy must have accidentally went under it and turned it on. He got this massive giggle fit and I could hear it turning off and on and off and on. They came out of the bathroom and the boy was still giggling the whole way out the door. What is it about small children's giggles that you can't help but smile?
