Even before any information is released, you know it’s bad when a school shooting makes the national news. That’s how commonplace these have become.
Also, I wonder if there’s anything to the Nashville PD’s tweet of an “active aggressor” — rather than an “active shooter.” Is that how conservatives want to play this now?
about 2 weeks ago we had a hoax call about a school shooting at our town's middle school. It was determined to be a hoax and they heightened security for all of our town schools for the week. That alone made me feel sick to my stomach.

I have a request, can the shooting thread subject titles please include the city/state or general location, instead of just "another school shooting"?
I get a pit in my stomach thinking it could be near me, that the post will be the first I've heard of it, and I start to panic.
My son is in preschool, not in an elementary school, but some evil fuck could easily choose his daycare next. This is a worry I have (along with most parents).
I second the motion to more descriptively title school shooting threads. Especially because days from now this thread will still be active with commentary as more details and reactions come out, and we’ll keep wondering if it’s another shooting every time we see it.
(And there will be another one. There have been 89 school shootings so far this year - and we’re only 86 days into the year. 😔)

Ashbey Beasley, a survivor of the Highland Park, IL shooting last summer, was on vacation a short distance from this shooting and took over the reporters' mics nearby. Video's on Twitter, I tried to find an article featuring the video to link here but so far nothing yet. She's 100% right in everything she said.
Also, local Nashville news confirmed the shooter was a 28-year-old female.

Changed the title. As someone who also has kids in school, I completely relate and understand and apologize for not clarifying in the title.
MTG is on twitter calling for armed people (guards? teachers? It's unclear) in schools. Despite Uvalde, they continue with the "Good guy with a gun" narrative and it absolutely enrages me.

I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF THIS. Seriously, fuck every single person who thinks guns are more important than these CHILDREN. I will never, ever understand. Why can't we DO SOMETHING? 😫
Gut wrenching. Always hurts to see this happen again and again.
ETA: I’m just going to wait for more official word, because this is heinous enough without awful people on social media making it worse with their vile thoughts and commentary.

That picture of the little kid crying on the bus to the reunification location, gut wrenching. Traumatized children for life. There's not an I'm sorry or hug in the world to help those survivors.
Sharon McMahon (sharonsayso on Instagram) is a non-partisan educator of US history and today’s politics. I find her account really interesting because I feel she does a genuinely good job of breaking things down in a non-inflammatory way and she is truly committed to the stance that you can combat misinformation with a non-partisan approach.
This morning, she posted about the importance of voting out people who aren’t doing anything about gun violence, which is as much of a partisan stance as I’ve ever seen her take. It doesn’t really mean anything, but it was striking to me nonetheless.

I’m heartbroken yet again. More families destroyed, more lives ruined and ended. And for nothing, completely senselessly. I’ve given up hope that we’ll ever see reform, it’s sickening.
