It’s true, some kids were out of school for a few months in a some areas years ago and that totally sucked. If a kid is still struggling, I hope they can get some help. Therapy, tutoring should be available to all.

But this pesky virus just isn’t going away!

If only we could do something in 2023 while living our normal lives that both helps us as individuals and makes other people more comfortable leaving their homes and living their lives. Something that possibly might help someone—even yourself—not die or become disabled. Something you could wear would be ideal but I’m open to suggestions.

Her fourth grade teacher told me he has kids who didn’t know addition and subtraction. There is no free tutoring available for all. There is no therapy - we just got a referral for it, and the closest one with openings is 2.5 hours away without factoring in traffic. My sister and best friend are teachers and they are broken by the stress of it all and THAT is not going away.

This is an example of the exact kind of major failure of our federal government in response to Covid that I’m talking about. There is no reason why that is the situation for anyone or ever was. Biden could have stepped up and addressed these issues and never has. Instead everyone loses. Pushing it to the states then the starts to the counties and cities was a failure. It was an “unprecedented” event. He could have taken unprecedented steps to help the country he was elected to lead.

On this forum and in my overall neighborhood? Any indication that you’re not 100% on board with the democrat agenda seems to be unpopular. There is no room for discussion or disagreement. You either agree or you’re a Trump loving republican.

FWIW, in my area, people loved masks because it was “easier to spot Trumpers.” It wasn’t about masks or protection, it was about virtue signaling.

I didn't want to say this earlier because of exactly what you said, it’s unpopular. I think his best chance at winning is if he runs against Trump again. I voted last time and made my apathetic husband vote too because I saw too many MAGA signs and it scared me even though we are a blue state. I still feel proud that I voted for Obama when I lived in a deep red state but now that I’m 13 years wiser and watching our freedoms erode, I’m disappointed that my vote will never count.

I do think if Trump isn’t it people will also vote for Biden simply as a vote against whoever is. It’s not like any nom the Republicans will put forth will be different than than Trump. They aren’t suddenly going to support some reasonable person.

And again, the core voting block of the Democratic Party consistently votes and will vote for any Democratic candidate because they know and understand the world. These are not people who are going to stay home and not vote because it’s Biden again and they don’t like him. They know no one is going to be great and you have to do what you have to do to get the least horrible option elected.

Now those same people that are concerned because we don’t know the long term effects of covid itself are the first to completely dismiss the long term effects of isolation, shut downs, and subpar education for an extended period of time.

And if you live in a state where it was “just a few months” and your kids (if you have them) or the kids in your area are all just fine because it wasn’t a long period… it wasn’t because of democrats.

As I said, nothing was handled well by anyone, especially at the federal level. People needed support then, including @ children and they didn’t get it. They continue to need support now and aren’t getting it.

This is why as I said, the handling of Covid by Biden is an issue that is important to many people. He could have made healthy schools, children’s health and education a priority and he didn’t.

It’s all parts of the same issue.

I am dreading this presidential campaign run with every fiber of my being. If this board becomes Covid rehash part billion I am quitting. If it’s already getting ugly here now it’s not a good sign for what’s to come nationally.

I am not excited for Biden. I don’t think he’s done nearly enough to protect the rights of those that aren’t straight white males. I think the concerns about his age were valid four years ago and are valid now. I am so sick of old white men. However it’s what we are getting. With him I at least have hope that laws protecting basic human rights will be enacted. So. Go Biden. I’ll try to get excited.

The other thing that The Daily mentioned yesterday was that at this point, Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee. Nobody is stepping up to challenge him, the GOP has completely left all of the state/local party leadership to the MAGA crowd, so there's very little chance that they nominate somebody besides Trump or even somebody that's moderate. The GOp just re-elected Rhonna McDaniel (Trump's appointee) to lead the RNC and there's really not much in his way of the nomination (beside his own medical issue or going to jail...)

I just can't imagine what happens if something happens to either of their health in the next 18 months, especially if it's after they've been officially nominated. Has there been anybody that's challenging Biden or will he run unopposed?

He's done more to advance women's rights and gender equity than any past president. I wish people would do the slightest bit of research before they write off the biden administration because of optics--however I agree he is too old and wish someone else was the nominee.

The major concern behind just November 2024 is how much more of a turnoff voting could become. Someone mentioned upthread about how it is always election season now. People are annoyed. Add in consistently unlikable candidates and, well, here we are. I don’t see how elections in the future won’t just be about “don’t vote for that other person.”
