You seem to be having a different experience than everyone else! Lol, now if you’re getting in as media/vip that would explain it!
I’ve attended many concerts, theater shows, sporting events, etc. I have never had a ticket with my name on it! Also never been able to come and go as I please.
I dunno! This is really is one of the more bizarre discussions I’ve had online, I had never thought twice about it at all.
I’m not leaving for hours and coming back, it’s hot/crowded in the venue and I step out for some air. I just politely ask and they let me do it 🤷🏻♀️
I don’t think anyone has shared that they asked to do this and were refused so maybe other people just aren’t asking? Don’t realize this is what other people in the crowd are doing? It’s regional? Not a clue.
Everyone here is more than welcome to attend a crowded, ticketed, indoor concert and ask the people at the door if you can step out for some fresh air during a set break. Report back!

There are usually no re-entry signs, also why are you always leaving? 😆 it’s bizarre for us too! Lol
There are occasionally no re-entry signs for concerts so I don’t ask then but they aren’t like permanent signs in the venue—they normally say “for XX concert there is no re-entry”. The default is you can leave.
I like fresh air! Concerts can be claustrophobic and migraine triggers for me so a little break outside when nothing is going on helps. I’m not alone out there!

But why are we even talking about indoor events when the original question is about an outdoor venue.

Because people were posting that you can’t go back into concerts/venues once you leave for any reason and I made a passing comment people got fixated on.
As I’ve said a few times now, if I can leave and return to a venue during a concert for no other reason than fresh air and funsies, a venue can certainly allow a ticket holder seeking shelter during a weather emergency back into a show when the danger has passed.

Sure, your one person experience where security clocks exactly where you go is transferable to 9500+ people all trying to get back in at once.
I think why we're fixated is because of your unrelenting insistence that your individual experience would work for everyone, when it's a fairly special snowflake incident.

Being a Hoosier my mind always goes to the 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse. Severe weather was approaching and concert by Sugarland should have been canceled, but they didn't and a big gust of wind made the stage's roof collapse on the audience. There were like 5 to 10 deaths iirc and many severe injuries. Lots of finger pointing at who should cancel (venue vs band). The head of the state police was adamant they cancel and got pushed off. The powers that be finally listened to him and were walking to the stage to make the announcement, but the collapse happened first. We were at another outdoor event in Indy that night and it got canceled and we had time to leave and go to where IL's lived then safely. Conditions can change quickly and people get to an event ad start relaxing, socializing, drinking etc and they are not monitoring the radar at that point.
Thanks to our friend rubytue, who is at a concert tonight, here is an actual posted policy about re-entry! It doesn't clear up my question of "how do the logistics work with electronic tickets" but at least it's something. This venue is outdoors and gets a lot of the same artists as Red Rocks so I assume has similar ticketing/capacity. For tickets bought via Ticketmaster you get an electronic ticket and if you buy them at the box office you have the option for a paper ticket.

Oh interesting that people thought the band should cancel.
My partner typically tours in Europe and not the US but I’ll have to ask him what contracts say about severe weather and if the band can be held liable. They do a lot of outdoor concerts in the European festival circuit so I’m sure it has come up.

I think the fair asked the band to delay and they preferred to go on as scheduled and stop if/when the bad weather arrived. Indiana, Sugarland, and the promoter all were sued and settled paying out millions. The security group didn't settle and were dismissed. I'm guessing lawyers did not think the band had a good chance to be dismissed or to win.
Thanks, wildrice! I saw that last night and thought it fit here. But, also, I feel like that blurb has been on the program layout for years and hasn’t been updated for current ticketing. Also, the device that handshakes with the apply wallet was annoying last night, so people who had barcodes got in faster.

Why can't they just stamp people's hands when they go into the venue and then they can return later if they need to leave. I mean isn't that what happened for decades before smart phones.

I’m trying to think back years, to arena shows in the 90s and such, they didn’t stamp hands. But, you could get back in with your stub. But also, ink washes off in the rain (or the old trick of licking it and then wonder twinning the stamp onto your friends hand). Sharpie to easy to reproduce.

There are venues here that still do stamps (usually UV black light) sometimes combined with a wristband for re-entry. Honestly, I’ve been able to get re-entry even at places that don’t typically allow, by just asking if I can step outside for a few minutes. 20 years ago, I’m sure I got away with stuff because I was cute and flirty. Nowadays they probably are afraid I’ll cause a stink and most workers just don’t care 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah I was thinking UV lights or wrist bands. It's not that hard to figure out a solution.
