Does anyone else think the NYT Connections puzzles are just too easy? I seem to get them within a couple of minutes most days. Am I just super smart? LOL. I like the idea but I think they should be more challenging.
I did that thing this morning where I vacuumed the basement playroom, then decided to vacuum and mop the first floor, while I was doing it I noticed the bathroom mirror could use a windex, so I deep cleaned the bathroom, then dusted the living room, which meant I noticed that the kids have been banging the chairs into the wall behind the dining room table and it needed to be washed, then I took a magic eraser to the scuff marks on the back of the stairs going to the second floor since that needed it too, then took all the vent coverings off and scrubbed them. And now that it’s all done… you can’t really tell that it’s any cleaner, but I KNOW it’s cleaner and that’s what matters! Lol

I agree, I do think they could be more challenging. I also think there should be an extra word or two because you just get the last one by default, not actual guessing.
That's the only way I got the one that was like tong, cub, malt, chin and the connection was "words that when you add "A" to the end are the name of a country. :/
namasteak I have an interview for a job that makes me feel the same way on Wednesday. It would be amazing. I contacted them today to say I'm still testing positive for covid (day 9 over here). They immediately offered a zoom or phone interview if needed.

I’m very chatty this morning. I like to figure out the obvious one, but leave those for the last row.
I find Connections either super obvious, or I would never have put four random things in the same category. There was one a few days ago that I think was all famous Tim’s out Tom’s or some such and all I got was “celebrity last names.” So technical I got it but I sort of didn’t really.
This is where I am with Connections as well. I either solve it really fast or I fail spectacularly. I like TR's suggestion of an extra word that doesn't fit any category so there isn't a "gimme" at the end.

Crossing all crossables for a good interview and no more Covid soon!
I’m not really sure if I have the job already and if “why don’t you come see the office” is a formality to see me in person or an actual interview. When I sent my thank you for the interview email they reiterated (for the 3rd time) how they could work around my autoimmune stuff.
I was rushing to shower at the gym this morning before heading to work and sliced up my legs with the razor to the point where I was stuck in the shower for about 15 minutes trying to stop the blood flowing everywhere and then I snuck out of the stall, grabbed a second towel to wrap around myself and balled up the blood soaked towel and shoved it into my gym bag. I’ve never stolen a towel before, but I can’t imagine the housekeeping staff finding that towel in the bin.
H and I had a heart to heart about getting a dog. Although he has some concerns, he is totally in, and said we can get one in the near future. I’m wondering about other couples when there is an imbalance in money and time. We both work full-time, H makes twice as much as I do and easily works 20 more hours a week. He also has a fairly large amount of money in a trust. He acknowledges that there is a power dynamic there, but I’m not sure if there is much to be done to change that. He is also very particular about things.
Suits, the show, is wrong about nearly everything related to the law. It includes the frequent plot point that these private practice lawyers are/or not threatening/agreeing to criminal charges against the other party.
Most of the other stuff I can let go in service of enjoying the ridiculous stories. But this makes me want to throw things at the TV.

I'm proud of myself. On Friday night I drove DS1 to Philadelphia for the regatta on Saturday. The team's hotel was in NJ. I live in a small town and don't like city driving and that was a lot of Friday night rush hour city driving. Thank goodness for Google Maps. We didn't leave the race until after 6 on Saturday and got home around 10:30, but DS's boat did really well (won their heat and second overall). Now I don't have to do that for another year.
I woke up to a text from an employee asking to telework because it's raining. WTF? They are already on leave restriction and were already told by the boss above me that no additional telework would be authorized (barring snowstorm, building not accessible, etc).
I just don't get the thought process of so many people.
Well, is this employee the Wicked Witch of the West? If so, understandable.
I'm taking my mom to the airport this afternoon and I'm ready. It's been a nice visit, but it's always hard being paid attention to SO hard, 24/7 lol. I've already booked a weekend in September to visit her and we'll see her for Thanksgiving so it's ok that this visit is over.
Just three days of work this week and then Napa! I'm so nervous. Mostly around, like, will my friends still like me after 3 days together? The other two have vacationed together before so they know they're good. Thanks anxiety!

Yes, she's what HR calls a frequent flyer.
She repeatedly has tried to get her job made 100% telework despite having to issue IT equipment and do inprocessing and outprocessing. We're not a fully telework organization.
We told her that if she truly could not be present to do her job at least some days, then HR would look to reassign her. Cue the back pedaling because if they can't reassign (and we don't have anywhere on the installation 100% telework) she would have to resign.

Had my house inspection today, there's some asbestos in the basement to deal with, but otherwise I think it looks good. Waiting for the report, there's a ton of cosmetic stuff, but I think it's manageable over time. I did confirm the living room definitely has hard wood under the carpet, so that's a huge plus.
I came across a recipe for “easy pierogi” and it’s lasagna noodles layered with mashed potatoes and onions and honestly, I’m tempted.
My Babci taught me how to make lazy pierogi:
Saute one finely sliced sweet onion in butter until soft. Drain and rinse 1 2lb bag of Silver Floss sauerkraut. Add it to the onion with more butter. Continue to saute on low until it caramelizes. This takes a very long time (1-2 hours). You can add shredded apple or a few tablespoons of sugar to help with browning/take away some tartness. I use sugar, usually. Boil two bags of wide/extra wide egg noodles. After you drain them, add more butter and combine with the sauerkraut.
It's delicious and pretty bad for you! You can serve with sour cream. Cabbage pierogis are our favorite and this tastes a lot like the real deal.

I made that once before and it was 'ok'. Maybe it's 'easier' than making handmade perogies, but it was a lot more work than just making them from frozen (which is what I usually do) so I never made it again.

OMG, this is so me and my mom. I love her and I like spending time with her but we definitely keep our time together short (part of a travel day, 3 full days, then travel home day is our MAX). When she visited me last year, she literally followed me around our house. We live in 1,000 square feet. I was never out of her sight. WHY was she following me around? I thought I was imagining it and just feeling overwhelmed, but my H even commented on it. It's not quite so bad when I visit at her house b/c she has normal everyday things to do, but yeah, it's a lot.

Isn't watching a fictionalized version of your profession universally terrible? It wouldn't be entertaining if it was realistic. This has to be super annoying for people in the legal or medical fields because of how common they are for TV.

I've made this before and enjoyed it. Not as good as real pierogi, but it satisfied my craving.
I got the pathology results from my hysterectomy today and it looks like several new fibroids appeared and some had grown. I am so glad to have my uterus gone and looking forward to the end of bleeding. H has been so good with helping and taking care of me. I'm really going to owe him.

Yeah, I was thinking that. I’ve made homemade pierogi (not hard but time consuming) but what tipped me over the edge into maybe this is a good idea was our closest supermarket stopped carrying the onion/potato ones. Which are clearly the superior frozen variety! I don’t want “cheddar”, Mrs T!

My Mom/family makes a 'lazy pierogi' casserole dish which is egg noodles with sauerkraut, onions and copious amounts of butter. The potato version sounds even better.
litskispeciality I cried twice! Like big ugly tears! I saw it on Sat and told people it made me want to do two things:
1) Randomly buy Barbies (new, unboxed) and leave them in public places so they might find whoever needs one. (I’ve left two on the subway so far funded by the paid research study Target GC)
2) Call your mom.
#1 is giving me goose bumps! We give Christmasgifts to cousins who otherwise would use a giving tree. I didn't have a Barbie house, car etc., so I don't mind spending a little more for their girls to have one. I love the idea of just buying a toy or two and leaving it out for someone to have. Again trying to avoid spoilers, but I told my H this had a lot of Toy Story vibes in places. I didn't expect to cry!
#2, I don't have a mom anymore, so that part was bitter sweet. I lost a good friend who was like a mom before COVID as well, so thinking of them watching down on me really stuck with me, esp this year I hope they see my progress. As the lights came on the theatre I saw a mom hug their tween. Of course the tween was embarrassed (clearly they missed the point, lol), but I was like "well now I'm crying again".
Also good luck with the trial study! I'm curious to find out how it goes if you want to share (but don't have too)
DH and I are on our way to the in-laws after our weeklong Alaska cruise. It was so nice spending time with just each other. Plus, I got to go zip lining! Now we’re in the Dallas airport on a 9-hour layover. It seems like the kids managed without us fairly well.
I still don’t have a teaching job lined up, and now that our trip is done, I’m more than a little stressed about that.

Oh DH and I actually had time together last Fri where we tried a new brewery. They had spinach and feta pierogi's and they were so good. They had like 6 different kinds, which was so unexpected and fun.

I'm really regretting planning on Egg Roll Bowls for dinner tonight because now I want pierogies. And sauerkraut. And might as well get some stuffed cabbage while I'm at it.
