My building has an intercom system for emergencies. Today they used it to tell us the elevators were down and to use stairs. Not an emergency worthy of scaring the shit out of me, building manager!

namasteak, I'm crossing my fingers for you! This sounds like an awesome opportunity for you.
I fell asleep on the couch yesterday afternoon. I woke up suddenly because it was so hot and I felt like I couldn't breathe. The 60lb 8 month old puppy had wedged herself onto the couch with me. She's the sweetest thing, but she's huge and hot.
Dealing with all the insurance and fixing and cleaning up the aftermath from that giant hail storm is legit like a part time job. Thankfully H and I are working together to get it done but it's exhausting.
Suits, the show, is wrong about nearly everything related to the law. It includes the frequent plot point that these private practice lawyers are/or not threatening/agreeing to criminal charges against the other party.
Most of the other stuff I can let go in service of enjoying the ridiculous stories. But this makes me want to throw things at the TV.
Isn't watching a fictionalized version of your profession universally terrible? It wouldn't be entertaining if it was realistic. This has to be super annoying for people in the legal or medical fields because of how common they are for TV.
The exception is Abbott Elementary, which is so entertaining to me BECAUSE of how spot on it is. If you can't find the humor in the ridiculousness of teaching (and specifically working in a district like Philadelphia), you'll never make it.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Yes, Abbott Elementary is so accurate it makes the show just that much funnier. I couldn't watch Friday Night Lights beyond the first few episodes because they got so many details about UIL rules wrong.
Scrubs is only medical show my H can watch. At least the early seasons felt very realistic to him especially since he was going through residency while they were airing.
I came across a recipe for “easy pierogi” and it’s lasagna noodles layered with mashed potatoes and onions and honestly, I’m tempted.
Could you share?
It’s literally just mashed potatoes and caramelized onions layered between lasagna noodles. Starting and ending with noodles. Recipe was a strong word!
I’m trying so hard not to get too excited about the job at the midwifery office. It would be nice for our budget but mostly I think it would so good for ME . It’s so nice to think of using my skills and my brain to contribute value outside of the home 💕

My mosquito cream smells of curry powder. It's very odd. This is one I haven't tried before, and I'm about to go get a replacement. There's a Thai herbal balm that's magic only smells of menthol.

My Babci taught me how to make lazy pierogi:
Saute one sweet onion in butter until soft. Drain and rinse 1 2lb bag of silver floss sauerkraut. Add it to the onion with more butter. continue to saute on low until it caramelizes. This takes a very long time (1-2 hours). You can add shredded apple or a few tablespoons of sugar to help with browning/take away some tartness. I use sugar, usually. Boil two bags of wide/extra wide egg noodles. After you drain them, add more butter and combine with the sauerkraut.
It's delicious and pretty bad for you! You can serve with sour cream. Cabbage pierogis are our favorite and this tastes a lot like the real deal.
I need details on the sauerkraut. Is silver floss a brand? The shred type of the cabbage? I get my favorite sauerkraut from a Polish guy. But I savor it bc I can only get it every few months. I’m torn if I want to use what I have left.

Yes, Silver Floss is a brand. It is sold in bags in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. It's finely shredded. I think it's really good.
👋 California ladies! Had a delightful day in Long Beach today, which has some very Fort Lauderdale vibes, probably because they are both ports. Looking forward to Catalina Island tomorrow!

I bought new sunglasses and they smudge like crazy all the time. They are ray vans and I’m super frustrated by it. Is there a spray or something I can put on them to help them not get so smudged all the time?
What's with people on planes declining the snack and drink? I want my "free" ish, I'm not proud.
Depends on the snack. I turn down most SW snacks. Not a fan of peanuts of pretzels. Occasionally they have the snack mix, which I like. But mostly it’s peanuts or pretzels. And I won’t eat them.

Haha well that is easy! I’m going to have to try this
I'm taking my mom to the airport this afternoon and I'm ready. It's been a nice visit, but it's always hard being paid attention to SO hard, 24/7 lol. I've already booked a weekend in September to visit her and we'll see her for Thanksgiving so it's ok that this visit is over.
Just three days of work this week and then Napa! I'm so nervous. Mostly around, like, will my friends still like me after 3 days together? The other two have vacationed together before so they know they're good. Thanks anxiety!
OMG, this is so me and my mom. I love her and I like spending time with her but we definitely keep our time together short (part of a travel day, 3 full days, then travel home day is our MAX). When she visited me last year, she literally followed me around our house. We live in 1,000 square feet. I was never out of her sight. WHY was she following me around? I thought I was imagining it and just feeling overwhelmed, but my H even commented on it. It's not quite so bad when I visit at her house b/c she has normal everyday things to do, but yeah, it's a lot.
Also, happy birthday! And have fun in Napa!
Add me to the club of people whose moms pay very close attention to them, lol. I mean, its part of what makes her an incredible mom because she's so thoughtful and attuned to everything but OMG its exhausting sometimes. She's always asking lots of questions and just wanting to know everything about my life and friends' lives and all of the talking and questions kind of makes me want to shut down sometimes. She's super amazing with my son though and she'd do anything for you so I try to overlook this. She isn't doing anything wrong per se, it's just a lot.

Are you taking the ferry to Catalina?
Yes! I absolutely admit this part of the trip was influenced by TikTok lol.

Admittedly, my experience is from 27ish years ago, but take Dramamine. Approximately 50% of the boat (including my mom) were puking on the way out. And I don’t think it was an exceptionally rough day. There were barf bags at every seat in advance so I don’t think that’s an entirely unusual occurrence.

Huh. I can’t remember the last time we were offered anything but the snack mix on SW. I would be bummed if we were offered just plain pretzels or peanuts.

Not to be snarky, but how else do you get to Catalina? Helicopter?
Actually, yes lol. After the previously mentioned experience on the way out, my mom (who shares my emetophobia) was too scared to get back on the ferry to go home. So we took a helicopter back. Which, of course, landed somewhere other than where the ferry left from so we then had to take a taxi to the ferry dock parking lot. Which was locked until the ferry got back. It was a day.
LOL omg I hope my response didn't make you feel bad! I'm sarcastically embracing my insanity here. I want the free stuff! But if I see my free Sprite wiggle in my cup I'm certain I'll cry out, "WE'RE ALL GOING DOWN" and then no one will be able to enjoy their free snacks. It's better that me and my xanny hang out for a lil nap during the refreshment section of my worst nightmare, lol.
