This is so concerning. I don't even care that he's a R. I've had a stroke, this must be completely mortifying for him. Sounds like these are TIAs (my dad had them, the same thing happened to him sometimes too). His health can only deteriorate from here.

I just saw the video - as a medical person, I would be highly concerned about his brain. He has to retire so he can deal with his health, and they need to stop putting him up to speak.
I'm not saying this to be cruel - but when this first happened and I saw him, I honestly was shocked at how old he looks. He seems to have REALLY aged over the past year or so, which makes me wonder if there has been more going on that we don't know about.
If this has happened twice on camera already, I wonder how many times it has happened when he’s not being filmed. I watched the video and his aide stepped in very quickly and the look on her face made me feel like she was prepared to step in.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Why won’t these people just retire?!?
Huge ditto. My (otherwise healthy and active 75-year old) mom has had two very small strokes in the last year and she spends almost as much time at the neurologist and cardiologist these days as she does with me and my kids. We know that it's only two episodes because she's not a lying liar who's trying to swindle the American people, so we all feel comfortable with her doing things like driving and taking care of my preschool-aged nephews because we know if something happens she'll tell somebody right away. Mitch McConnell? Like hell I buy that these are isolated events and he's capable of making decisions that affect the lives of literally every other person in this country. I mean, I didn't trust him before now, but for different reasons.

And regardless - he needs to step down.
Yeah, he looks frailer from the last time this happened, which wasn't that long ago, and it seems like his shirt was buttoned incorrectly and he didn't notice.
Agree. Except for the sad and concerned part. You reap what you sow.
I simply can't get up ANY sympathy for him at all. He is a horrid horrid human who has done SO much damage to this country.
Exactly. Fuck him. Have literally ruined people’s lives.

My colleagues tell me stories of course but I just read an article about a 7th grader giving birth because she wanted to travel out of state for an abortion after being raped but the family couldn’t afford it (and they didn’t know about all their options). I’ve thought about the article every day.

His life work has been helping to take away health care access to people but I bet he gets his doctor appointment and all of the tests really quickly. Duck him.
Seeing him made me sad. It looks like he is having seizures. I am not a medical experts but he's giving seizure to me, my dad had a severe stroke and we always knew when a seizure was coming on by his actions. McConnell is giving those same actions. He and Feinstein need to go, age limits should exist.

So I watched a TikTok yesterday from someone who lives in KY, and she said that basically big oil and gas have a death grip (almost literally) on him because the person they want to take his place isn't ready and isn't on board (or can't do what McConnell can) with all the things McConnell sold his soul to do for them. So basically he can't retire because big oil and gas don't want him to. And with how gerrymandered KY is, it's almost impossible to get a D in there to replace him.
Is there protocol in place to force retire a legislator who is clearly unfit to continue their office?
I wonder if there is, there has to be right? if there is one for president, there should be something for any elected official.
Yeah, but the 25th amendment only deals with Presidential succession and disability. And technically it clarifies how to replace the VP if the office is vacant. Absolutely zero in the constitution about force-replacing legislators. Senate leadership could ask him to step down, but he IS Senate leadership.

I'm not sure what exactly this means. How can O&G prevent him from retiring if he wants? What would they do if he did?
H and I were talking about this yesterday. Not sure if people realize, but KY law says a departing Senator has to be replaced by someone from the same party. So even though KY has a Democratic governor, a new Senator would be Republican. And any replacement would almost certainly be far worse than McConnell, hard to believe as that is.
Ah, it turns out Kentucky has restrictions on replacing Senators - Andy Beshear would need to choose from a list submitted by the Kentucky GOP, which I'm sure contains high-quality individuals. Shocker - the legislature passed that law in 2021, partially at the insistence of Mitch McConnell.

It would be a Republican, but that person wouldn’t have the power that McConnell has. And power is what they’re most interested in.
There’s no option to remove anyone from House/Senate outside of death, voting them out, or expulsion. They make their own rules & could make something happen, but right now, it’s not in their favor to make rules. Keep in mind Professional Liar George Santos is still in office. McConnell isn’t going anywhere until he dies.
These episodes by McConnell look a lot like the absence seizures H had years ago. He would be in the middle of saying something, would stare off into space, and would "come back" when I called his name repeatedly (or snapped in his face). He never remembered it happening or even a minute or two beforehand. He had a ton of memory problems outside of that, so my guess is Mitch is too. I hope he's being seen and treated by a neurologist and retires.
This is horrifying, but I'm not convinced an age limit is the answer, as we continue to be more long-lived with a better quality of life. The founding fathers probably would have set that limit around the average age of this board, and elderly people deserve representation too. A process for removing anyone who is unfit would be better but possibly also fraught with issues (for example, what level of disability renders someone unfit?). The problem is that we are so broken that we can't trust people to step down or even for their parties to force them out, in part because there hasn't been enough mentorship and promotion of younger party members to take their place. Term limits would help all around.

My dad had these as well. Exactly what you described. He’s still medicated for them. I also hope Mitch is being treated and that he steps down.
