Businesses have control over what hours (and location for thst matter) are shown on Google. If they've set themselves as being open 24 hours with a physical location, that's on them.
When I called one “yarn shop” to check the hours they were very surprised to see what was listed.
It seemed like Google changed how they listed businesses and now it’s on the business to be reactive vs proactive over the listings that they might not even know are there. I know that changed for my author page last year. No notice, they just completely revamped it and made it useless. But at least I’m not a physical business and my address wasn’t included! I’m not regularly googling myself so I didn’t notice until someone else pointed it out.
Oh, interesting. I helped a friend get her business listed on Google a couple of years ago and it was entirely in her control what was shown in the listing.

We've been trying to go to more plays/touring Broadway shows etc in our area the past year. So many great talents and maybe they prefer stage, but I always think wow, that they aren't in the movies and then there's the fact Julianne Hough has had multiple starring roles. How? Girl can dance....the acting is painfully bad.
Has anyone else noticed that google maps has a lot of places that seem to be actually people’s homes listed as businesses? Some of them I think are people making and selling cakes or bread out of their home or crafts but they are listed like they are regular businesses you can go and shop in.
I keep running into this when I’m in places I’m not super familiar with. Today we are doing a day trip and I wanted to get bread to bring home and I found “Joan’s Bakery” but when I go to actually get directions, it takes me to a house in a cul de sac in a huge subdivision.
Are people just rolling up to these people’s houses expecting bread all the time? Some are listed as open 24 hrs. A large % of the time there are no websites listed but often there are some pictures and a phone number.
It’s weird. I miss yelp being the default.
there are quite a few home-based businesses in my area like this. Mostly for baking and lasagna (although those are like a ... franchise/non-profit? I've actually thought about getting involved. According to my NextDoor they seem to be doing some good...
There is nothing that annoys the shit out of me more than my husband napping on the couch, just snoring it up in the middle of the house and being grumpy about kids wanting to play with him or take over the tv, etc.
Then he acts like I’m a big huge asshole because I’m like, “GO TO BED if you want to nap!”
If you’re tapping out on life for rest, good for you. Enjoy your rest. gtfo out of the main living area. Stop being a rude, grumpy turd.
OMG we don't even have kids and I feel this so hard!
My dude. You are asleep. WTF CAN'T I CHANGE THE CHANNEL?!
My random today: I have a 3-inch scratch across my right shin. Almost right in the middle of my shin. It's not deep, but it's scabbed over and hurts/aches. No bruising.
I don't have the first clue as to what caused it. My leg hurt Tuesday. Felt fine Wednesday. I noticed this scratch Friday morning.
Me: low key wtf?
Body: 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Brain: I bet you're dying. We should check Google 😬
H is napping on the couch with the World Cup on. I want to nap too, but my stupid brain will.not.shut.up. so I might just go get a shower.
Something happened at work last week that is still weighing on me. I am agitated and impatient and so fucking tired.
I’m in CA helping with my friends baby. Y’all they have nothing but oatmeal, protein shakes & protein bars. Luckily I got a huge sandwich last night and saved half for today. But I ate that for breakfast and now it’s lunch time and neither parent knows what they want to eat so I can’t even go to the store for them. It feels too weird to go for myself because I would have to take their car.
Spent a few hours on the beach this afternoon and am now showered, in pjs, watching crazy lightning. I’d really like a glass of wine but that would require going out to get some and that’s just not happening right now. I may nap instead.
My neighbor is BEC. He has a riding mower and mows his front and the neighbors on either side. All on his own agenda. The old neighbor had asked him to stop. Nope kept on doing it. New neighbor has mentioned no need to continue. Keeps on doing it.
He mowed Wednesday. Bc I came home from work and he was putting the weeds down the street drain 😡. He is out there today mowing again. But to top it off new neighbors had already mowed the back and trimmed up the front this morning. They have company now and rando man mowing front yard.

I'm not saying this is what he's doing, but my Mil's asshole neighbors kept mowing further and further into her yard. She finally had someone come out to stake her property so she could put up a fence, and he told her that if someone can claim they've cared for a property for a lengthy amount of time, then they can actually legally claim it's their land.
I mean... if they've asked him to stop, he's not doing it out of kindness...
ETA: Who tf puts trimmings into the sewer? What a dickhead!

It feels like to me that Google is trying to push out Trip Advisor and Yelp by listing every little thing it can find and encouraging people to leave reviews. Maybe they are now pulling from public records for LLCs or something? And you are expected to contact them if there is an error?
The “yarn shop” was a woman who dyes yarn at home and sells at festivals only and had no idea she was listed as a physical business at all. But when I looked up yarn shops in the town, her home address and phone number were right there, saying she was open 24/7 which seemed wrong and prompted me to call and check the hours.
TBH Google maps isn’t that helpful even when it is a real business—today we were out of town and I searched “coffee shop” and the coffee shop a block away called “Frank’s Coffee Shop” with the slogan “Best Coffee in Blank Town” and a top review of “my favorite spot to get coffee in Blank Town” came up as a 45% match. 45! What does it take to get over 50%? The website listed wasn’t correct either—it directed you to third party delivery app when their actual website hosted their own online ordering system.

It will work out but this is weird.
if I was in this situation, I would go for myself and also bring back extra food.
Kinda like I do with my H when he tells me he has no ideas for meals next week. I'm like, "Cool, bro -- I'm going to make magic happen."
And then as long as I don't over season whatever I'm cooking, he's happy he has hot food in his belly 😋
tacokick - I also think Google is trying to crowd source a lot of the info. In the last year or so I've noticed that a lot of businesses I Google have a "Claim this business" note on Google search. They also have links for people to suggest additional info (like hours and locations). It all feels lazy to me (on Google's part), and I feel bad for the people who don't know their little home bakery is showing up on Google 24/7 😵💫

It feels lazy to me too. It doesn’t sound like a good way to become a trusted source of information vs just a search engine to me.
The weather in London is pants. It was 13c (55f) at 9.30am this morning and raining. At the height of warmth, we're getting 19c or 66. NOT the normal August weather. Bah. My poor garden has been getting too much water and we had the rainiest July on record. All we're doing this weekend is walking and training the dog, putting up a banister so my MIL can use our ensuite bathroom a floor up from her bedroom (due to renovations on the other bathrooms) and laundry.
Co-signed. From the Netherlands.
I went to dinner tnt and someone was wearing boots and a winter coat. The high tomorrow is 17! 🫠
this hanger looks completely useless. Who came up with this and why did they think it was a good idea?
I know it's anti theft but like who is hot for stealing hangers? Don't people just take the shampoo and maybe the robe. I can't believe there is a vast network of hanger villains.

People will steal anything from a hotel room that isn’t nailed down. They’re a PITA, but the hangar comes off the ring so you can hang stuff on it, then you slide the top back onto the ring. It’s kind of hard to explain, but easy to figure out. Hard for short people like me to actually use though.

I'm going to have to ask if you just mansplained me. 🤣 Bro, I've been in my share of hotels, I know how to operate them I'm just saying I hate them with the fire of a thousand suns.

My MIL once took the bath mat... which my H then took from her.

So. No. No one is taking the hangers.
I hate hotel bath mats. They're so thin and useless.
