I know we talk about this every year but it still blows my mind how early others go back to school compared to MN. It is a state law here that school cannot start until the day after labor day, unless it is an underperforming district, then they can begin one week earlier.
(eta - this is for public schools.)
I feel the same way! No law (that I'm aware of) here. When I was a kid we always started after labor day. Seems like it usually starts the week before labor day now. I can't imagine spending most of August in school!
I was at the Pink concert last night and saw Taylor Swift in June. What did you think? I was a little underwhelmed by Pink. I enjoyed the show, but was much more ‘wowed’ by TS. Maybe my expectations were too high for the carnival part of the tour name? Loved Brandi Carlisle.
It was a good show and I'm glad we went and we definitely enjoyed it, but it was definitely a different experience than Taylor Swift. I think part of it too was that we went to TS with our best friends, so dd was a little bored with just me for Pink, mainly during the T ride there, waiting for the show to start, during the opening act and in between acts, etc. We didn't like the 1st opening act at all and actually stood in line for merch, which was unthinkable for TS, but we were both blown away by Brandi. Dd wasn't familiar with her prior, but she is a new fan for sure. I thought Pink's audio was off for several songs unfortunately, so her timing seemed off too at times. But yeah, I found myself comparing the whole 'production' to TS and it wasn't quite as impressive. But she was fun to watch and listen to, I loved her tribute to Sinead, and it was nice that we didn't feel guilty leaving before her encore so we made it home at midnight last night instead of 2:30 like for TS!
I got shut out of getting a ticket for Eras, but I went to Reputation in 2018 and honestly I think we can't expect anything to compare to Taylor Swift! Her shows are just another level. I've been to a lot of concerts and enjoyed almost all of them, but nothing compares. I think that's why it hurt so much to miss Eras (though crossing my fingers to snag tickets with her new dates next year... but expecting to be burned again).
I am seeing P!nk next month and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the show - I am looking forward to it!
rubytue if you happen to be size 12 or above, I have had good luck with Torrid black pants recently.
Thanks! I finally found a couple at macys and kohls. Today is supports no fucking clue what size I am (and women’s sizing suck). Generally a 14 or 16 in pants. XL is dressed. I had on one pair of 16s that wouldn’t fit over my hips, WTF?!
But I now have 3 new pairs of black pants, two with functional pockets! And a dark gray pair. And a bonus light blazer and bright pink blouse. It won’t be a tailored suit, but I can play the professional next week.
also, I’m almost 50 and have been in government for 23 years. This shouldn’t have been a last minute thing 😂

nsl, that fucking sucks and I’m really sorry your child had to endure that from a family member who should love them fully and unconditionally. Your MIL sounds awful and I hope you’re able to put up a big, firm boundary to keep that bitch and a half out.
I have a book called Decoding Your Dreams. Author is needs. Ian Wallace. All this talk of bathroom dreams led me to look this one up. Here’s what it says,
“A toilet symbolizes a place where you can attend to your own needs by releasing what is no longer healthy or nourishing. Having toilet troubles in your dreams suggests that you feel embarrassed about voicing your needs. This may because you are always looking after the needs of others rather than attending to your own. Toilet dreams reflect situations in waking life in which you can feel challenged to let go of what you no longer need.”
I witnessed the craziest thing in the Trader Joe’s parking lot today where you can get validation to park for an hour free. I was leaving the lot and got behind a man in a very nice Audi SUV. He spent a couple minutes waving his ticket in front of the sensor before the parking lot guy came over to his car. Then they started a very animated argument with a lot of gesturing and the parking lot guy pointing to the ticket and his watch. Finally he threw the ticket back at the driver and yelled “you can’t park for free”. Then the driver turned off his car and yelled “this is a standoff”. Thankfully I was able to get out of that lane and to another exit, but my guess, based on the times that I have gone over the 1 hour limit, is that that parking fee wasn’t more than $2.00.

So ladies, take care of YOU.
😘 love the sentiment. But… it’s mostly because we need to pee.

Lol. Every time I have a dream about needing to use the bathroom, it’s because in real life I actually have to use the bathroom! It’s like my brain’s way of working my actual physical discomfort into the story line of my dream. And now I know that when I have those dreams, I need to wake myself up to use the bathroom. Take care of ME indeed!
I ended up in the ER on Friday for a suspected food allergy reaction. I had some itching and swelling Thursday but woke up Friday with completely swollen hands, and hives all over. I felt lightheaded taking DD to dance at 8:45 and called DH. He drove me to urgent care but when I almost passed out with my BP at 80/60, off to the ER I went.
My breathing/airway was fine and my BP was back in normal range, so some IV steroids, Benadryl, and Pepcid and they sent me home with an epipen. I’m on a step down of prednisone and taking Benadryl every 6 hours and I’m still dealing with hives. The swelling has gone down but it’s not entirely gone.
I’m scared to eat pretty much anything. Wednesday before any of this started I had trail mix and sushi.. so I’m suspecting tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish, fish, or soy. I started omega 3 a vitamin d supplement, and a statin a month ago. I will feel better once I know what’s actually going on. I can’t get a follow up with my Dr until Wednesday, but I’m going to call my allergist tomorrow morning. I had full allergy scratch tested done maybe 6 years ago.. my body has turned on me since turning 40.
VillainV and rubytue, I get it’s likely more about needing to pee but I loved book’s explanation as I think too many women in general put everyone else’s needs before their own. Any reminder to take care of you is a good one. ☺️
spindle92, thank you for posting about Simone Biles comeback meet being re-televised. I just watched and geared up a little when she did her victory dance after her vault. She’s really fucking amazing.

I've rewatched her vault and end dance today more times than I will admit top.
I'm just so happy to see her not only back to doing what she loves but thriving!
We are supposed to see the in laws in 2 weeks. I’m going for a long weekend, H is going the whole week. He called them today, and I over heard some spluttering and avoidance, followed by “ok, I’ll ask her again, but I doubt it’s going to change.”
Turns out, the question was would I be staying the whole week.
I’m annoyed that they just won’t drop it. I’m also annoyed that their family can’t just state facts, which means H hasn’t made it clear to them I’m leaving Monday. End of story. Or maybe he has and they think that more pressure will change my mind. Because that works for them, everyone just gives in because it easier than saying no.

This reminds me of how my MIL acts. She calls and asks us to come visit for something or other. We say probably not or a soft no (H has a hard time giving her a hard no). She asks again as if her asking will change it. Or she says "wouldn't it be fun if....".
Ahhhhh!
But ultimately I get annoyed with H because he won't say no, he's sort of noncommittal.
Right now she's doing it about us going to Myrtle Beach with them next summer. I don't really like beaches in the first place, Myrtle Beach is awful IMO, and I definitely hate going to a beach for an entire week straight. We've been telling her for years that we like to go different places on vacation and not just Myrtle Beach like her and FIL. So now her "let me bring it up again to get a different answer" is "you've gone to a lot of different places so now it's time to come to Myrtle Beach!".
SusanBAnthony, exactly! And now I’m on H for his non-committal answers. Like, if he ever tells me maybe, I have to ask if that’s a “first name-maybe” which means no, or and actual maybe. I swear, he could be getting mugged and the guy says “do you want me to stab you?” And he would say “let me think about it,” because he can NOT say no. The more I think about it, the more I think this is the root of the problem, combined with them hearing what they want to hear.
We just got back from our trip to Italy - I wish we were still there!! I’m forcing myself and the kids to stay up to a normal bedtime and I’m already on the struggle bus. I’m starting the laundry as a way to (hopefully) force me to stay awake
Patsy Baloney, I used to love storms but since becoming a homeowner I have so much anxiety about trees, hail, and wind.
I hate bathroom dreams. I vividly remember a dream I had as a kid-I was an adult carrying bags of groceries and trying to unlock my apartment. I had to pee so bad in my dream and I was worried about squishing the bread I had. So strange.
I'm having a major allergy attack right now, I'm not sure why. I'm sneezing nonstop, my eyes are itchy, and I want to scratch my entire face off. What do you take when something like this happens? I already take Claritin once a day but it doesn't prevent this from happening. Benadryl? Is there something else that would work better/more immediately? I'm dying.
Speaking of weird dreams, I had a very vivid dream where I was thirsty and took dead flowers out of a vase and drank the water. Then in my dream I was wondering if that was a good idea—chemicals in the water, pesticides on the plants…
I woke up and wasn’t even thirsty so what was the point??
I’ve had bathroom dreams (they always involve a combo of no privacy and the bathrooms being disgustingly dirty) and not had to actually go to the bathroom when I woke up. So there’s definitely something else going on there lol

Benedryl or Zyrtec are what my allergist recommends for immediate action. My allergies have been crazy this year and I e been taking Zyrtec daily this summer to help with my skin itching constantly.

My weather app popped up a ragweed alert this morning. Did I start my seasonal meds? No. Maybe in tomorrow.

Same here! My kids don’t go back for over a month yet. My son’s ESY just ended Thursday. So far this summer has been the longest of my life, so I’m counting the days until they go back, but none of us handle lack of routine at all.

holly116 I’m very sorry you are dealing with an allergy. I’m heading into week two of hives and swelling. It’s been brutal. I was advised to drink plenty of fluids too. I hope you get answers soon. Since turning 35 I’ve developed latex, banana, and antibiotic allergies. I go at the end of the month to have a full work up with an allergist. I have epi pens all of the place. I hope you get some relief soon

To help with the sneezing and any nasal symptoms I would do a rinse with the netipot.
