Yeah I was clear as mud. I was talking about the “alarms go off all the time” type comments. In my experience that has happened in only 1 of my ~4000 hotel room stays.
No, but I have left my 3 year old sleeping in their bedroom and gone in the backyard to hang out.
I got a video monitor for this exact reason but I haven’t done it yet.
Anyway, no. We even stayed in an Airbnb above a wine bar last week and I chose to go pick up dinner while my husband put her to bed instead! Similarly, I live a 12 minute walk and like a 90 second drive from the commuter rail station and I would never leave her alone while sleeping to go pick up my husband or vice versa. Just no. Never. Meaning not until she’s old enough to actually be trusted alone.

Great! Go ahead and leave your toddler alone in a hotel room, while they’re sleeping at night!
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

Also, I think most of us know that the likelihood of something bad happening is not super high. However, there is a small risk. So when it comes to the risk vs benefits calculation for this scenario I do think the small risks outweigh any small benefits. We’re not talking about leaving your kid home for a job interview that you have to take. We’re talking about going to dinner or drinks when you could still do that just without your partner/spouse.

Y'all are weird. This was very clearly not her point. She was just saying that like the PP's husband, she had no experienced alarms going off "all the time" and she has a huge data set to back it up.

Ok, you’re weird! People also gave their examples of alarms going off! It’s not just the possibility of a hotel alarm going off that’s a good reason to not leave your 3yr old alone in a hotel room.

Okay! Good job!
Is this some sort of passive aggressive comment? If so, why?

My theory is that parents of good sleepers think they've won at parenting. They feel emboldened to do things like leave them in a hotel room while sleeping. I think I mentioned this in the previous thread.
I birthed sleep haters who have so much energy. And a bonus, they were usually nap haters too especially when we were on fun vacations. I always pass out with the younger one at night.

Nah. I had the world’s crankiest baby but she somehow loved sleep. I still never would do this.
I think it’s more anxiety. I am a think of the worst thing that could happen in any scenario kind of person. Most people aren’t.
I'm another one who was babysitting at age 11...I can't even begin to fathom that for DD. She is 10 and I can barely trust her long enough to run to the gas station for 15 minutes.
Growing up in the 80s truly was like living on another planet lol.
We were on a cruise when the kids were around 5. It was probably 1am and I was asleep with the kids and my husband was at the casino. He called me and said he had forgotten his license and I had to bring it to him. I said "are you nuts? The kids are sleeping, I can't leave them alone! Come get it!" He said he had won $3k on a slot machine jackpot and if he left he would forfeit the winnings.
I grabbed his license, turned on the light in the bathroom and closed the door so if they woke up they would think I was in there, gently closed the room door, BOLTED to the casino, threw him his license, and ran back to the room. I was gone for 15 minutes and they never woke up, but I spent the whole time thinking "what if they wake up?! And then they're scared that they're alone?"
It was fine, but 7 years later I still think about it every once in a while and feel bad. So leaving a 3 and under kid for fun? NOPE!

Anecdote time: when I was in the 8th grade, our chorus took a trip to NYC. I was in a room with 4 other girls (two girls to each bed plus a cot). We stayed up to maybe 2 AM watching MTV and GLOW and had our blinds open because we were on maybe the fifth floor and also we were dumb.
I had just dozed off when I heard a commotion. Three of the other girls had darted out of bed and were huddled by the bathroom calling my name and the fifth girl’s name. I ran over to join them and they were like, “you needed to duck! Someone is shooting at us!”
We couldn’t wake the fifth girl by yelling (sorry, friend!), so we ran out into the hallway (still ducking) and got our chaperones.
Turns out there was a fire escape right outside our window and someone had shot a BB through our window. Turns out the same person shot through two or three other rooms, too (although no one else in our group.)
It’s the most adventure I have ever experienced in a hotel room and probably has heavily influenced my perspective on this subject. 😂
