I really just want Trump to die. Of natural causes - don’t come at me, FBI. Preferably close enough to the election they can’t get another candidate up and running.

Even in the scenario we still end up, hopefully with Biden as president, which is really terrible. We can and should do better. We still have the chance and that’s why there is a convention and party leaders to make these decisions. It’s frustrating that all the people that could have told Biden to step aside six months ago didn’t do it.
I was thinking this morning, after all that we've seen...how is Hillary looking in today's light.
I don't think they'd ever pick her but I'm just saying all her "sins" seem even less bad now IMO. I googled her age this morning and she's 76. So practically a spry young chicken 🤣
Are Beshear and Whitmer not strong options for Dems? Granted, I live in MI so clearly I have more name recognition with Whitmer but people look to MI, and it's a swing state.
Beshear is a strong option as a Dem in a red state. It's palatable to Dems and moderates in red and swing states.

Not for November.
Low name recognition, plus no experience on the national stage. Think about how many primary candidates were governors but once they were on a national stage, weren't ready for Prime Time.
Also, I find the idea that the Convention could get the factions together to pick someone laughable. You want the outrage when they pick a white dude over Kamala, or Stacy, or whomever? Or the progressives balking when they choose a moderate? Or the moderates if it's a progressive?
Truly, unless Biden chooses to step aside and throws his support behind Kamala, I don't see any other nominee happening.
I also think November is a long time away and we have about 75 news cycles before then, a bunch of other crazy shit is going to happen. If 47% of the country is ready to pretend Jan 6th was just a picnic, I think we'll be on to something else by the time voting starts.
It’s been a sad day thinking about those two buffoons last night (no offense Biden, you tried, you’re just old as fuck and fading). It reminded me that our political system really did Hillary Clinton wrong and dirty.
Sure, Hillary got the popular vote.
If anyone deserves an apology for just being lied about, taken for granted, and basically shit on for no good reason, it’s Madam Secretary, Congresswoman, First Lady Clinton, esquire.
If 2024 is any evidence, we didn’t deserve her anyway.
Honestly, I thought it was really because there is a certain segment of the population who would responsd to "too many old men" with "more Bernie."
It's going to take a lot of strength to power through another election cycle. At least for this one I am appropriately medicated. However, being properly medicated for anxiety doesn't mean that shit like this isn't HIGHLY anxiety-inducing.
I'd love to see Harris take the ticket and then have Gavin Newsome, Joaquin Castro, Corey Booker, and Pete Buttigieg vie for VP.
Newsome + Harris is probably too much California. But he can really go toe-to-toe with any liar Trump puts up as VP. I like Buttigieg next. I think for experience and diversity, Castro and Booker could be good picks. Booker + Kamala might not be the right combo either though.
I just know it was hard to watch last night. Biden needed to show his handlers weren't propping him up and he didn't prove that last night.
I think he's terribly smart. Just not the front man we need.

I'm glad to hear someone mention Beshear. He's done well for himself here but I don't know if he even has higher aspirations.

This reminds me of family trying to convince Grandpa to give up his car keys. Biden is that Grandpa and will be similarly stubborn and refuse.
But let’s say he does step aside if the ballot rules allowed it. Harris would be the simple choice, but I think Secretary Pete would generate more excitement.
In the meantime, I’m Ridin’ With Biden.
Also, how amazingly sad that one side of America actually can have nuanced and difficult conversations with each other and publicly about the ability of their leader to lead, when we have a convicted felon who has more support than ever.
I didn't fully appreciate this previously, but Kamala Harris is the only one who could make use of the fundraising war chest that has been built. It's for the Biden/Harris campaign, so she could use it as the heir to that campaign, but it can't be transferred to a different nominee. This late in the election season, that on its own puts her way ahead of anyone else the D's could put forward.

Whitmer, Pritzker, and Newsom are the names I've heard most, along obviously with Harris.
I like Buttegieg too, although I still can't spell his name.

I don't know. Maybe folks are so fed up with these two that people would just vote for a new dem. I assume everyone that was "biden no matter what" would vote for the new person no matter what. Maybe anyone on the fence would just be happy to have anyone else.

Sounds like it’s time to get under the hood and take some parts out that don’t allow the car to start.
Unless he, himself, bows out of the race we're all Ridin' with Biden. There's no way they're going to be able to replace him.
This also completing undermines his candidacy. Pretend you're a Republican and fall in line. Trump should be replaced too - he's confusing who people are, talking about Hannibal Lecter like he's a real person, whatever the thing with the electrocution is, etc. And it's a blip in the media. They are not going to replace him and all of this talk is only adding fuel to the republican fire. Biden surrounds himself with competent people and he is good people. Fall in line.
I also think about how Rs constantly talk about how Biden isn't all there on talk shows, etc, but no one has ever claimed that after meeting wtih him, etc. If he was competely incompetent, after a meeting with him, Rs would be shouting it from the rooftop. They haven't - they wait for sound bites.

genuinely, are there people who are "biden no matter what"
i know there are trumpers who feel that way - is there a significant number of biden supporters who are that loyal?

I would assume so, given his relatively young age, but I don't know much more than that.

Well I mean I am biden no matter what against any GOP nominee. I don't mean biden no matter what against any dem

Definitely too much California. Joaquin Castro has too little name recognition and I'd think Julian has stronger experience to leverage.

Biden’s team posted some snippet from a speech on his Instagram account about 15 minutes ago: “I may not walk as easily as I used to, I may not talk as smoothly as I used to, I might not debate as well as I used to, but I know how to tell the truth.”
Except for to yourself, I guess, Joe.
I don’t think there’s a viable alternate to thrust forward on Aug 19. I think the party has been too afraid to try as long as Trump is in view.
I am a Biden fan but oh, how I wish he’d stuck to his word about a single term. Now I have to just pray like UWR that Trump kicks the bucket.
Well I mean I am biden no matter what against any GOP nominee. I don't mean biden no matter what against any dem
The question in my mind is if people will vote Biden or just stay home. Do people feel enough energy and optimism to come up against the Trump energy?
If it doesn’t pick up after this, I would think a lot of people who would have voted for Biden will stay home. (I’m thinking anecdotally of my mother-in-law who already said she was doing this). November is a ways away but these concerns have been here for a while.
I am a Biden fan but oh, how I wish he’d stuck to his word about a single term.
He never said this. I think people speculated he might or said he should and he maybe made vague statements, but he denied that that was his plan and didn't "give his word" on it or anything.

I think people overestimate Kamala's appeal to the Black demographic because of her history as a prosecutor whoch the right will weaponize. Also opponents will pull out every time she's identified with her Asian heritage as a "look she doesn't even think she's black!"
I'm not saying any of that's true but there isn't enough time to run a campaign to effectively counteract that.
People don't like Warren, Klobuchar is boring, Newsom is too tied into California. Pete, Whitmer, and Jefferies are all good options but they aren't ready to hit the ground running this late in the game. They should be grooming them as the next gen of Democratic leadership.

Surely SOMEONE has been working on a “worst case scenario” situation here! I felt like for awhile, they were trying to get Pete more recognition. I think he and Kamala would be a good combo, in whichever combo they prefer.
Conservatives have lost their biggest “complaint” about Pete. They have NO room to talk about the “lifestyle” or “choices” of any other candidate when theirs has 34 felonies!
