A few years ago there was a television series where the first episode ended in December of trumps last year with him launching a nuclear strike. It felt so real because he feels like everything in the world only exists for him and will end when he does - and he’ll make it happen if needed. This feels like that sort of statement. No need to vote in four years because I won’t be on the ballot- in fact there won’t even be a ballot.

That’s great. Can you imagine any presidential candidate of years past being refused all venues in major cities?! I’ve heard a lot of his events have been outdoors because it’s cheap, even though it’s obviously more dangerous, because everyone knows the campaign doesn’t pay all their bills. At the last rally people were furious because their cars were towed from a Dunkin parking lot and there was a huge fee to get them back, but there were signs posted saying non-customers would be towed.

I heard a comedian critiquing Vance’s “speeches” saying he’s so inexperienced when the things he says fall flat, he basically resorts to crowd work and it’s pathetic, like watching a new comedian bomb a set. I suppose it’s difficult to open up for Orange Jesus with a crowd like that 😬

Sofia is trans and masc presenting in the photo with the NYT article. However, Sofia uses they/them pronouns (according to both the article you posted and a previous Newsweek article on this and The Advocate) and self identified as ‘genderqueer’ in their emails cited within the article. Do you have any information that Sofia identifies as a ‘man’?

Thank you for this correction! The Apple News headline from which I accessed the article used he/him pronouns and referred to Sofia as a “trans man,” and I missed the sentence about their pronouns in this article. That was careless of me, and I apologize.

My child is nonbinary and I definitely know the basics but a correction is always welcome.

For seating it's just over 6k, but they do have chairs in the rink and standing room so it's possible they could fit more (how many I have no idea). Local reports said the line to get in was 2 miles long but who knows.

I happened to be in St. Cloud this weekend. I wasn't really near the venue but I didn't come across any MAGATs at the hotel or other places we went which surprised me considering they reported 8,000 people showed up. We heard on the radio that people had started lining up at 3am. It was really hot and humid. I can't imagine a worst thing on the planet.

Palin actually polled pretty high initially. Female, young, a somewhat popular gov. She did herself in later, but she didn't literally call McCain hitler. 

Vance polled worse than before immediately after the announcement and speech.

We were at my cousins wedding when they announced Palin as McCain's running mate. All of my conservative family was SO excited and SO sure that having her would seal the deal for Republicans. Some of these same people are now Never Trumpers.

I like the Palin and Vance comparison. What's I think it comes down to is Vance is genuinely smart (an unlikeable douche in many ways) and Palin simply wasn't that smart.

It's like personality and intelligence can't exist together with these two.

But maybe I'm remembering her wrong. She faded into the ether the day that campaign finished so it's not like she's proven herself or made a name for herself since then.

She tried, unsuccesfully, running for office again just a couple years ago. She couldn't even win her primary, but as it was ranked voting, she had the joy of losing in 3 matchups.
